Bloody auto play videos!

Mnhq, Please look into and fix the videos automatically playing on the site!

I think it's the videos on the side of the screen when you reading a thread.

I'm using puffin on an iPad.

Also fed up with autoplaying videos. I have now noticed that on threads I open in the Chat topic the Mumsnet video is there, but doesn't play, then after a few seconds fades out and a video ad for Club Med starts. Not on! Desktop site, Firefox.

I've switched back to the desktop site, and the videos are back! There's a new Walking on Eggshells one with a man, rather than the woman who felt like she was in prison.

You can just block it with adblocker - happy to report I have done this once and it's working on all pages.

BertieBotts - sadly not for me. I have adblock plus on my latop and I am still getting them. The Club Med one even comes with sound. It is super annoying.

Bertie, no, adblock doesn't work on these - presumably as they are not ads and now integral to the MN site? If I could change adblocker to get rid of these, I would.

I am on an ipad using Safari, and adblock is not working for me.

Yes - you can block anything with adblocker. Just right-click and select "block this ad" or "block an ad on this page". It works even if the item isn't coded as an advert.

Right clicking on the ad does not give me the option to block it. As I am writing this my adblock plus says it is blocking 29 adverts on this page, but it does not block these auto play videos.

I suppose it must depend which adblocker you use. I'm using adblocker plus for chrome, and it's always worked like that.

Bertie, I'm not on my regular PC but that's the same ad blocker as yours - it doesn't block it because it's part of the MN website, I think?

It won't block it automatically no but you can set ABP on chrome to block individual elements of a site, not just ads, by right clicking on the element. I use it for sites which have annoying headers which follow you down the page too! I'll have a look and see if I can find out whether you can do it on Firefox.

Autoplaying I like on Facebook and it can be good on Youtube. Anywhere else it generally makes me jump and annoys me.

Yep me too. Very annoying. Desktop site, Windows 7 laptop, Firefox browser. Pregnancy symptoms video and walking on eggshells especially, plus the bloody adverts beforehand. I keep clicking the pause button but as soon as I scroll down the page it starts again.

Oh and this is with Adblock Plus and Privacy Badger enabled. And I tried turning off the autoplay option in Page Permissions to no avail.

I have the same ones alternating on Chat non stop. I use Fair Ad blocker which gives me the option to block an element but it doesn't work on these damn things.

How much longer do we have to put up with this crap?

Yup, self-loading videos playing for me also. Desktop. I don't know about sound, I don't have speakers.

I really don't need to know about weird pregnancy symptoms, my wife is 77. If she gets pregnant, you will be able to read about it in any newspaper.

Issues on ipad too: sound from ads plays only rarely, but annoyingly frequently cut off whatever music/radio I am playing in background. Such that I have to leave mumsnet to resume my listening choices...

On the app, on an iPad, full sound, bottom of a thread auto playing video. REALLY ANNOYING.

Am on chrome on laptop and keep getting the videos auto playing sometimes with sound sometimes not. If I pause the video and then scroll down it starts playing again. Please make it stop its so annoying!
