God no! I hate the fact that PMT is the excuse everyone brings to bear when someone is having a grouse.

Nightynight · 13/05/2007 15:15

I think the problem with AIBU is that it seems to encourage people to try and deflate others, rather than help them.
difficult to foresee.

AitchTwoOh · 13/05/2007 15:47

oh right, i always wondered why it appeared.

LittleMouseWithCLogsOn · 13/05/2007 16:28

retitle it am i a shit head"

that may deter posters

foxybrown · 13/05/2007 16:52

There are the AIBU threads which are posters wanting reassurance or help. Sometimes reading them you can relate and realise you are not alone. Sometimes they are there for you to vent on.

And sometimes they are used as an excuse for others to get all superior.

I think they serve a purpose. But perhaps some people who respond need to remember they are talking to people who are genuine.

Of course, some of them are clearly barking mad

rowan1971 · 13/05/2007 17:20

Could we also agree to chop off the hands of those who insist on posting thinly-veined selling threads, and open their OP with 'oops! Guess this shouldn't be in this topic!'

Ok, Ok... For those who worry about buying and selling - you can switch it off (just tick box at top).

We have hopes of being able to let you customise Talk further, ie choosing which topics you want to see in same way you can opt in to buying and selling/ special needs etc, but this may take a while as tech is still shed-bound and working hard on the all singing all dancing new reviews coming soon...

So please bear with us. We hear your pain and hope to be able to help soon.

Meantime (she hijacked seamlessly)you could always just walk away from AIBU and go play on local which still has LOTS of gaps all ready to be filled. This especially applies to Mancunians. Last time we looked there were NO recommendations at all in Manchester, and surely it can't be all that bad?

suedonim · 13/05/2007 22:04

I haven't read all this thread so don't know what others have said, but I think most of AIBU would be better in the Chat section, if that's technically possible, then the threads would disappear eventually.

I must confess though, I have in the past started an AIBU thread .

MerlinsBeard · 13/05/2007 22:06

another vote here.

UCM · 13/05/2007 22:06

So, if Mumsnet is all honed down to nothing, someone will be happy somewhere

MerlinsBeard · 13/05/2007 22:13

carrie, i have added to manchester....and so have others....?? there isnt alot to do lol its always raining here didn't you know

Tabkat · 13/05/2007 23:01

It is my favourite - I have started two threads there and none anywhere else. Am I being whingey moaner?!

lemonaid · 13/05/2007 23:18

I'd like to get rid of AIBU too. To begin with it seemed a good place to move all the AIBU threads, but having found their own little niche they are breeding. Which may be appropriate for Mumsnet, but it's not helping the atmosphere.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 14/05/2007 10:45

LOL Lemonaid.

I started this one .
It was not my finest hour.

DumbledoresGirl · 14/05/2007 13:07

No No carriemumsnet, you missed my point re buying and selling. It is not so much that I don't want to see the threads, but I resent the fact that posters advertise one thng for sale per thread, thus flooding the board with their items and forcing other people's buying and selling threads off the board. Cannot people trying to sell be forced to put all their items in one thread?

Not that it will make any difference to Mumsnet, but I have stopped trying to sell here and am now trying my luck on ebay. But it would be nicer to be able to sell to other Mumsnetters and I would feel more secure doing so (despite recent scams).

JustineMumsnet · 14/05/2007 17:52

Hi Dumbledoresgirl,
Buying and selling is due a complete overhaul - unfortunately we've only the one tech (and he's a lazy blighter at that - shhh!) so it won't be coming for a bit until he's finished sorting out our product reviews so they can be live and a few other bits and bobs. But when we do overhaul(hopefully before the year is out) we will definitely consult on functionality and design so it works the best it can for members.

DumbledoresGirl · 14/05/2007 19:50

Brilliant! I hope I am around to offer my opinion but if not, I trust in the sense of other Mumsnetters!
