Abandoning the policy of responding to all reports was a mistake I think.

It's quite startling to read today that @thefirstmrsdv and @maryz have both given up reporting or lost faith in the report system.

I believe ALL reports used to receive a response of some sort? I know there was a bit of uproar when that changed.

I'm thinking that maybe going back to the old way might result in more dialogue and more people willing to report generally ( ?)

The thing is, if each report was responded to individually would that lead to it taking longer for reports to be acted on? Perhaps posters could request a response. Really obvious spam doesn't really warrant a response, you'll soon see it deleted.

Such a sad situation. I think I will leave mumsnet....

SerfTerf · 06/08/2017 16:47

Agree the spam.

Maybe just responding to MORE?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/08/2017 16:48

Can I ask when it changed, Serf? It's a while since I reported anything, but last time there was a generic message along the lines of "thanks for reporting; we all want MN to be a safe place and we'll look into it"

Unless you mean there used to be a personal response ...?

Sairelou · 06/08/2017 16:48

YY there needs to be some sort of a response, even if it is a blanket response to all reports

MadamePomfrey · 06/08/2017 16:48

But under the old system if there were lots of reports you still got a reply it was just more generic but still an acknowledgment if you know what I mean

SerfTerf · 06/08/2017 16:48

I'm not sure. A year or two?

Can't say it really bothers me. If I report a post then I've flagged it to MNHQ and what they do is up to them. I don't think getting a reply is necessary. I Can't imagine it stops many people hitting the report button.

FindingShark · 06/08/2017 16:50

Why not have a button that says

"I'd like a response" on the report? That way if it's something that warrants a response, MNHQ are alerted and can then chose whether or not to engage.

ConstanceCraving · 06/08/2017 16:50

I do report tbh but every time I do if I'm honest I wonder whether anything will come of doing so. This whole debacle highlights that even more.

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/08/2017 16:50

They announced a while back that they would not necessarily respond any more, to save time. I have had a mixture of personal, generic and non-responses since then.

MadamePomfrey · 06/08/2017 16:51

When I joined (not that long ago) you got a generic message but then some one would also come back to you and say thanks but we don't feel this breaks guild lines because ... or we are keeping an eye but happy to leave for know or whatever. If it was a really high profile one then you just got a generic thanks for reporting type email I will see if I have any old ones to show what I mean

MargotsDevil · 06/08/2017 16:52

I'd like a response to what I felt were valid suggestions on a previous thread in site stuff however there was no response and the threads are all just getting zapped. Might be time to find a new forum.

SavoyCabbage · 06/08/2017 16:53

I don't see how it makes a difference. I assume that the action they take on a report I make is the same whether I get a response or not.

PurpleDaisies · 06/08/2017 16:54

Can you imagine how many reports they'd be responding too right now?

I ageee that it was better before though

SerfTerf · 06/08/2017 16:55

Well I found the "Troll Policy" and it says "we will always reply to your report or email"

www.mumsnet.com/info/trolls

The policy was updated two years ago. So presumably up until the change it was literally responses to every single report.

SerfTerf · 06/08/2017 16:58

If people are reporting less because of the change, then it matters more.

They used to reply individually.

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 06/08/2017 17:02

I completely agree. I also barely report these days.
I don't fully trust the new system.
Previously, a response meant that I knew for sure that someone had read and considered my report. Now my report just goes off into the ether.
I do receive an occasional reply, which is nice.
A reply when HQ isn't going to take any action would be helpful. I don't need a reply if the post is deleted but when a post/thread is still there 24 hours after a reply it would be nice if I knew that someone had seen it and checked it out.
I do miss the old system and as I said, I report much less often these days because I feel as if I'm wasting my time.

traw · 06/08/2017 17:04

It's also made me more confident on reporting things, there have been times I haven't wanted a personal chitchat response, and felt awkward about replying and then feeling like I had to reply to their reply. Sometimes it's simpler just to report something.

GinSoakedTwitchyPony · 06/08/2017 17:04

that should read.

I do think they should reply to people worried about trolls or vulnerable posters

They definitely still do this occasionally
