I am RupeoSpartacus

Thank you all for articulating brilliantly why I have been feeling vaguely threatened but unable to find the words to explain why.

MintQuotient · 26/08/2016 16:00

I am Spartacus.
Gender identity is nonsense. It is not only nonsense, it is dangerous nonsense that endangers women and children.
By masquerading as "progressive" ideology, gender identity has fooled many otherwise well meaning people.
But there are others who must know full well what they are doing (like Ada?) – appropriating, caricaturing and bullying women.
We do not accept blackface these days – it's rightly regarded as a dominant group (white people) mocking and insulting a subordinate group (black people). Why the hell do we accept men impersonating women?
Men are not and never can be women. This is a fact.
To say this is not bigoted. It is never bigoted to speak the truth.
I will not shut up.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 26/08/2016 16:13

I am APlace and I am Spartacus.
I am appalled at the way we are sleepwalking into a society where a man (ie an individual with a penis) can demand access to our safe spaces and lesbian's vaginas; where transwomen can take women's awards, political positions and claim to speak for us despite being socialised as male.

I believe in equality. I believe in science. I believe gender is a social construct that is being bound ever tighter and is now being applied to children's play choices to justify a life of hormones and surgery.
I believe invasive surgery and long-term medication should only be prescribed when extensive research confirms it improves outcomes.

I believe that making the word 'woman' meaningless is the first step to silencing our ability to discuss our oppression.

I believe we should be supporting transpeople to claim their own spaces not invade our's. I believe we should be supporting our young people (whether children or teenagers or students) to be proud of who they are and to relish their unique interests, passions and desires.

I believe we should be honouring and continuing the legacy of the many amazing women who came before us and fought for women to have public toilets; to have refuges; to have places on committees and to access education. We have a responsibility to ensure their legacy is not lost.

Smartleatherbag · 26/08/2016 16:21

I'm smarticus and I know that men can never be women and that women cannot be men.

Howyoualldoworkme · 26/08/2016 16:28

I am Howyoualldoworkme and I am Spartacus.
I've only recently started posting due to the 'logging in' debacle but I've been following these threads for a long time.
I'm also Facebook friends with Robbie Travers and RL friends with other people who support him.
Robbie has suffered the most dreadful abuse for standing up to this and he is a very young man but a very brave one.
I'm an old straight woman who perhaps grew up taking women's rights for granted. I also work in a place where equality is naturally expected.
Things are changing there now and my views on this would not be acceptable.
But we cannot let this lie!

IAmTheWhoreOfBabylon · 26/08/2016 17:05

I am the whore
I've always wanted to write that

There are 2 sexes. People can wear what they like
A penis is not a female body part. It is impossible to change sex

I find it despairing how much trans activists could have done for men. Instead of redefining women they could have worked for acceptance of men who are more ' feminine ' and challenged traditionally male behaviours
They could have done so much good
I want to scream when I read about the Greens letting a biological man speak for women and call it progressive

CheckpointCharlie2 · 26/08/2016 17:17

I am Checkpoint and I am Spartacus.
My eyes have been opened well and truly today reading through these threads and I agree with all the highly eloquent pp on this and other threads.

I also have two dds and won't allow them to be terrified if a man wants to get changed with them in the swimming pool.

reelingintheyears · 26/08/2016 17:18

Exactly that IAmTheWhore.
Why is it always women to have to shove up and be nice.
Expand the broadwidth of |Men if you want but don't expect to speak for women when you aren't a woman.
Fight to be accepted by your fellow Men.

pennywhite · 26/08/2016 17:24

Yes! Thank You for this thread! It's so good to see more women growing a back bone & standing up for our lived biological reality!
I am Spartacus!

SoHairy · 26/08/2016 17:35

I am SoHairy. I am Spartacus.

I learned so much from amazing and articulate posters on MN about this topic over the past six months. I've been hoping and hoping that more women would come to realise how important these issues are. It feels like this thread is some kind of turning point.

We are saying that we will not accept this new reality they've constructed.
Men are not women.
Women are not men.
Sex is a fact of reality and cannot be changed.

Woman is NOT a feeling!

(I have been subject to hate messages on twitter for stating the above facts. Let's not have MN become the same)

dorade · 26/08/2016 17:38

I have been on Mumsnet since 2004. I am Spartacus.

AGuyCalledHelen · 26/08/2016 17:59

I am Helen

I AM a man even though I have long hair and sometimes wear makeup and clothes designed for women and people call me "her".

The fact that I AM a man doesn't mean that I have to adhere to society's expectations of what it is to be a man. That's OK.

The fact that I do some things that people associate with women doesn't mean that must ACTUALLY BE a woman in order for that to be ok.

Gender hurts everyone. Especially women.

Being honest is not transphobic.

I am Spartacus.

OscarDeLaYenta · 26/08/2016 18:03

I am Spartacus.
I will not be bullied.
I will not accept lies.
I will not perpetuate lies.
I am not afraid of being sacked for not accepting the abuse of small children.
I know women have been crapped on since time out of mind.
I do not believe in magic.
I am not 'cis'.
I will not defend myself with humanitarian protestations because stating a fact is not hate.
I am Spartacus.

Kudos, Helen Smile

"Anna Lee is a man. And I shall refer to him as he.
Ada Wells is a man. And I shall refer to him as he.
Paris Lees is a man. And I shall refer to him as he.
Alex Drummond is a man. And I shall refer to him as he.
Danielle Muscato is a man. And I shall refer to him as he.
Buck Angel is a woman. And I shall refer to her as she.
A female is born with a vagina.
A male is born with a penis.
I am a woman and will not be referred to as Cis.
I agree completely with Germaine Greer. "

Yes, to all of the above.

Doobigetta · 26/08/2016 18:08

Helen, I'm just catching up on the thread and your post happened to be the latest one. I don't know if it's wrong and patronising to thank you for speaking up, but I appreciate what you've said.

MerylPeril · 26/08/2016 18:13

I am Spartacus too (Spartacusina cos I'm a lady).

I'm a woman. I have woman bits. I don't know if I feel like a woman because I just feel like me.
I know I am not like a lot of other woman, I don't wear heels or make up, it doesn't make me less of a woman though. Cos I have the bits (and the bastard hormones).

I do think it's all a big bag of bollocks (thems would be mans bollocks by the way).

And I think people have too much time on their hands.....

weebarra · 26/08/2016 18:13

I am barra and I am Spartacus.
I don't have the words of the other people on this thread but I stand with them.
I am also an Edinburgh Uni alumnus and am sickened by the bile spouting forth from Ada Wells.

ageingrunner · 26/08/2016 18:26

I am ageing (!) and I share the concerns of most people on this thread
I don't think that it's ethical to delay puberty by medicating children
I don't think that pretending that it's possible to change sex can make vulnerable people happy
I have suspicions that those Drs/psychologists/counsellors who tell their patients that it is possible to change sex have their own agenda and reasons for doing so
I think it is better for a child to be helped to come to terms with brings healthy member of their born sex, rather than a medicated member of the opposite sex
I think parents who have gender non-conforming children are doing their children a disservice if they let their children believe it's possible to change sex
I don't think men belong in women's spaces. There are differences between men and women that can't be erased
I am Spartacus
