I will happily call anyone whatever they wish to be called, but men cannot be women and women cannot be men. It's a fact.

I am tired of putting people's feelings above objective truth. You can take hormones, you can cut into your body, but you can never change sex. Sex biological and gender is how we are conditioned by a patriarchal society.

I believe people with xx chromosomes are women and people with xy chromosomes are men. This is scientific fact and cannot be wished away no matter how much I or the poor tortured dysmorphic souls wish it could be.

I have nothing but sympathy for pepole who genuinely believe they have been born into the wrong body. However, being forced to give up female only spaces to a person with a penis is not acceptable. A person with a penis is a man and all penises are male.

I will retain control of the language I use by referring to a transgender person by their chosen name and avoiding the pronoun entirely. I will not knowingly call a man she or a woman he.

Mumsnet, you are letting women down.

I've lurked on the feminism boards for a while now without posting, but now it's time to stand up and be counted - if I'm banned I'm banned.

Female is not an identity or "feelz" inside your head, female is biology + socialisation.

Mumsnet have a huge opportunity here to do the right thing by women.

I am Working. I am good at maths and science, assertive and confident, and happiest being in charge. I like rock music, enjoy Guiness and live in jeans. None of this makes me a man, it just makes me a woman called working with these skills and tastes. Gender is a societal construct and not only does it have no meaning in fact, it has been used in positively harmful ways against women forever. I worry about the young girls I know who are beginning to believe that because they don't like pink they must be boys. What a depressing imposition of ridiculous gender norms this represents.

There are two biological sexes, plus a very small number of people who are intersex due to a development in the womb. Beyond that time, your sex is fixed and cannot be changed.

However, I will address anyone by the name they wish to be called, and will use the gender pronoun they wish, because that is polite and respectful. But it doesn't mean I believe they have changed sex if I do this for a transman; just that I am nice.

I have campaigned for LGBT rights for the last 35 years and support everyone's right to live as they wish and love whom they want.

But I believe the current trans-agenda is misogynistic, dangerous and damaging to all women. Activists are trying to control the language we use to control the way we think, and everyone (including MNHQ) is acting as though they are too scared to challenge this doublethink as they know they will then be targeted by hate. We have to stand up against this together.

Many of the wonderful posters on Mumsnet have opened my eyes to this issue. But MNHQ clearly do not understand it. I do not want women to calm down about this issue, we have the right to be very fucking angry.

I also try to be a kind person and I know and value several trans people, so I've thought about this a lot and changed my position more than once. In the end, I think:

Gender is a social construct. That means your gender is constructed by society. You can try to influence how your gender is constructed, but you don't get to choose it. None of us do.

We certainly don't get to choose our sex. A woman can't become a man or vice versa.
