one today for instance and mn hq post
"We don't think that this thread is disablist, it is a valid discussion that we don't think should be shut down. "

yet it has obviously been reported.
cause hurt and upset
how is that making life easier(or better) for the sn community`?

or this message from mn hq
That CBeebies is just far too PC
Thread deleted
Message from MNHQ: Thanks so much for all the reports about this.

Although there has been some interesting debate and discussion, we do agree that the OP and some of what ensues is disablist, so we have decided to delete.

how can these be interesting debates??
\not long ago mn hq said that they were going to be quicker dealing with this stuff
what happened??

MN is great to discuss such issues but I do wish some people would listen to people directly involved rather than jump in guns blazing thinking they know all about it and dismissing people.

This.

Unfortunately the impression I got was that HQ agreed with the OP, too. Sad

TheSilverChair · 17/08/2016 09:23

I don't think the OP was being deliberately goady. Her follow up posts point to that. I agree that people should think before they post about how the post may be perceived but realistically that isn't going to happen.

I had a post ages ago, when I first joined, where the first person to respond had grasped the wrong end of the stick and not read it to its conclusion. Lots of others piled in until a few who had actually read it to the end chipped in with, "Hang on a minute..." A few had the grace to apologise but others were determined to be offended. MN deleted them but it put me off posting for quite a while.

It wasn't even that controversial - just something in the news about changes in education and parental involvement in schools.

Some people on MN love a ruck and seek to create one. Others are genuinely upset by some threads.

BeyondLovesSweetDee · 17/08/2016 10:28

Agree with polter.

BeyondLovesSweetDee · 17/08/2016 10:29

The thread has now been deleted btw "at the request of the OP"

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 17/08/2016 10:38

Thanks for addressing the many valid points made on the thread HQ.

Threads are only usually removed at posters request if privacy is infringed.

I think it was just an easy way out when getting a hard time from us, sorry.

I think we deserve some response now.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 17/08/2016 10:38

If HQ is reading this, even

BeyondLovesSweetDee · 17/08/2016 10:47

"Some people with asd/add/odd diagnoses are just horrible children"
Left to stand.

BeyondLovesSweetDee · 17/08/2016 10:48

(That's paraphrased, just for full disclosure)

Samcro · 17/08/2016 10:53

so rather than being deleted because it became disablist.....its at the posters request!!! what a cop out.
the op might have been genuine(hmm) but the way the thread went wasn't good. and mn hq colluded in this by their own crass post.
this happens a lot threads deleted as bun fights...when no they were gf and disablist.

The other shitty thread de jour is becoming worse.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 17/08/2016 11:21

Don't leave fanjo Sad

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 17/08/2016 11:23

It's becoming not fun. But reluctant to leave, have left before and come back. Would be lovely if it became a more supportive place and not just endless educating and reading hurtful stuff

BeyondLovesSweetDee · 17/08/2016 11:30

What's the other thread fanjo?

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 17/08/2016 11:32

The fraud is awful but why aren't we worried about the children? In AIBU.

NeedAnotherGlass · 17/08/2016 11:34

I agree that I don't think the OP was deliberately being goady, but asking the question opens a can of worms. The question was answered very clearly within a few posts, but then it turned into a bunfight with all of those implications about parents making up or causing these conditions and judgements about ASD in general.

By continuing to allow the discussion, MNHQ adds validity to the question of is ASD a real disability, compounded by their own response.

I think there needs to be a set response to questions like this and the discussion closed. We cannot continue to question if ASD is real.
If people want to ask questions about ASD, that's fine within reason, but they must not be allowed to question it.

Samcro · 17/08/2016 11:37

just looking at the fraud one, was going to report a post and then thought whats the point. it won't be deleted

OP posts:
BeyondLovesSweetDee · 17/08/2016 12:05

As I said on the now deleted thread, both me and grannytomine (the other poster was her, wasn't it? Sorry, silly brain) have experience from years ago of "labelling" being used by a hcp as an excuse to not diagnose.

So it is not a new concept that a label is a negative value judgement thing.

Samcro · 17/08/2016 12:06

well the one on the fraud thread is a gem
"his Mother knows he is a bit weird"
WTF

"MNHQ adds validity to the question of is ASD a real disability... We cannot continue to question if ASD is real."

Of course ASD is real.

Re ASD as disability: To paraphrase Jimjams, there isn't one autism but autisms. There are many people with ASD who know they are different but don't perceive this difference as a disability, and would not change it if given the chance.

I don't doubt that your experience of ASD is clearly that of a disability but that experience is not universal.

BeyondLovesSweetDee · 17/08/2016 12:31

Cote, did you see the comment by mnhq? Basically they said that discussion around asd is okay as unlike gold star disabilities (my phrasing, not theirs) it isn't diagnosed at birth.

So discussion around the validity of my use of a wheelchair is okay as I havent always used one? The same, no?
