I am absolutely disgusted that you have removed the recent Media Requests thread.

Wasn't in the spirit of the site? That thread was the EPITOMY of the site.
The replies there were a million times more 'empowering' than some poor woman with frizzy hair bring made to dance around in a cheap bra and knickers.

I am fed up of mumsnet being so disingenuous. I refuse to believe that there were many reports requesting that the thread be removed.
I believe that the company behind it asked for it to be removed.

Why not just say that? Why not stand up for your members?

This constant crap from MNHQ is really putting me off.

I read that thread and I agree, I don't believe MNetters reported to have it removed. They were having too much fun.

I understand why you zapped it but just be honest that it was to not scare away any future paying clients rather than that you were concerned it might offend members or wasn't in the spirit of the site.

Ah I saw this one - some thought it was for Dove - looking for women who had 'imperfections' they didn't mind sharing.

I was going to offer my chin hairs....

The clever money was on it being for a Dove ad.

An unnamed advertiser was seeking women any age over 35, with 'imperfections' or 'one big flaw' like 'curly untamed hair, big nose or freckles', to be in a TV ad.

MNers are quite happy with their curly hair, noses and freckles and pointed this out.

There were assumptions that the advertiser was a certain soap company known for 'empowering' adverts which aren't really. Of course it could have been another company trying the same idea in which case first company would have been understandably peeved.

Media Request - Are you weird looking? No? Are you sure? Here's a list of imperfections you might have. Come on TV!

MN - As you might imagine the responses were hilarious

Cynical old me thinks the money stream MN get from these ill thought out media requests are deemed more important than the members whose combined wit & intelligence clearly lacking in the paying contributors are such a sought after commodity. There's something a little fucked up in that logic...

Sounds like the advertisers worded it a bit . Plus the Media Requests section is generally a bit

Exact wording was: "casting some women to feature as part of an upcoming advertising campaign we’re working on for a large household brand name.

We’re looking to find a broad range of women who are 30+ differing in age and ethnicity who have a clear ‘imperfection’ (for want of a better word) i.e. a larger than average nose, freckles, crazy-curly hair, a gap in the teeth etc. - the sorts of imperfections women might individually reference as the one thing they ‘dislike most about themselves’. "

Replies were brilliant and more in the spirit of helping parents and empowering women than almost anything else I have seen on MN.

I don't believe for a second that it was reported. I hope at least the advertiser got to read it before it disappeared, and realised that we saw through their misogyny and thinly veiled racism disguised as 'empowerment'.
