The deleted Media Requests thread

I am absolutely disgusted that you have removed the recent Media Requests thread.

Wasn't in the spirit of the site? That thread was the EPITOMY of the site.
The replies there were a million times more 'empowering' than some poor woman with frizzy hair bring made to dance around in a cheap bra and knickers.

I am fed up of mumsnet being so disingenuous. I refuse to believe that there were many reports requesting that the thread be removed.
I believe that the company behind it asked for it to be removed.

Why not just say that? Why not stand up for your members?

This constant crap from MNHQ is really putting me off.

That post wasn't even deleted Rumpy. One of chipped's was but I dunno what it said.

IAmAHologram · 11/03/2016 14:05

Oh! Was that The one where someone invited us to list imperfections?

ILeaveTheRoomForTwoMinutes · 11/03/2016 14:05

Delete away, MNHQ, but don't lie to us. It's not nice

Jesus. That's what I say to my 4 year old

^this

InvictusVersinium · 11/03/2016 14:05

Yes, the warning was discussed on the thread but what can MNHQ do except to say

Don't be a sexist twat or you will get your arse handed to you on a platter.

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 11/03/2016 14:09

Didn't Media Requests used to be paid for? Or is that a different section on MN.

I'd like comment from MNHQ on the fact that MN doesn't monitor which companies or media are approaching their members for comment or affiliations like this.

As I posted on the other thread, MN takes a stance of not taking advertising from companies like Nestle, but wouldn't have known if this research was being done for them. If you don't even monitor the media requests board, how do you know which companies are posting?

Chippednailvarnish · 11/03/2016 14:09

I posted James Swann's publicly available photo and his publicly available email address and invited people to list his imperfections so he also had the chance to apply.

But alas my post was deleted well before the thread was.

IAmAHologram · 11/03/2016 14:09

Am I allowed to quote my own haiku, or is that vain? Grin

Perfectly captured
Spirit of MN, perhaps
less so agency.

ProfGrammaticus · 11/03/2016 14:16

Who is Janes swann?

Snoopadoop · 11/03/2016 14:17

I'm suprised and disappointed this thread was deleted. I can't imagine who would have reported it and strongly suspect it was the company that put in the media request that asked for it to be pulled and not any the MN posters. The only post that wasn't, in my opinion, in 'the spirit of MN' was the post that posted a picture of the guy we were supposed to send our own pictures to showing our imperfections in all their glory.

Are MNHQ going to comment. I suspect it was quite a damaging thread revenue wise. Did the company essentially say 'remove or we won't advertise with you' or something?

Very disappointed. Some of those posts were excellent and truly empowering.

Quietwhenreading · 11/03/2016 14:21

I suspect Mr Swan is a man that had a really bad day at work today.

Or a really funny day at work today, depending on his perspective and on whether any of his close female relations are MNers.

IAmAHologram · 11/03/2016 14:21

JS was the man we were supposed to email with a photo of our imperfection if we wanted to 'empower' ourselves by not being paid to parade our curly hair imperfections.

ProfGrammaticus · 11/03/2016 14:22

Excellent. So can I email him a photo of my arse? 😄

RebeccaMumsnet · 11/03/2016 14:25

Apologies all

We were a bit hasty with the deletion of that thread and we've reinstated it now.

We deleted a particularly mean post and then the thread, in retrospect, we shouldn't have deleted the whole thing.

Can we ask that folks avoid the plain nasty posting please?

Many thanks and apologies

IAmAHologram · 11/03/2016 14:25

Is it just moderately imperfect or might it count as a malicious communication? Grin

InvictusVersinium · 11/03/2016 14:26

yay!

IAmAHologram · 11/03/2016 14:26

Woooo-hooooooooo!

sunnydayinmay · 11/03/2016 14:26

Ooh, I miss all the fun when I'm at work! Where is this thread then??

HairyGiantGibbousFlaps · 11/03/2016 14:26

whoop whoop!

Well done MNHQ

ILeaveTheRoomForTwoMinutes · 11/03/2016 14:27

Yaay thanks Rebecca

OhShutUpThomas · 11/03/2016 14:27

I was going to send in my webbed feet but didn't save the email Sad

OP posts:
Chippednailvarnish · 11/03/2016 14:29

Mean post? Grin

OhShutUpThomas · 11/03/2016 14:29

Woohoo!

Cheers Rebecca!

Can we keep going with the haiku...? Grin

OP posts:
ProfGrammaticus · 11/03/2016 14:31

I'm disappointed Rebecca didn't answer my question.
But not as disappointed as I am with the selection of emoticons on this iPad. No arses. Imagine!

Snoopadoop · 11/03/2016 14:32

I was furious about the media request if I'm being honest. DH got home and I went off on one to him about my freckles. DH had no idea what was going on but reassured me my freckles were lovely, nay sexy (even when I catch too much sun and they all pop a bit more and I get a freckle moustache, DH even said this was lovely) and he also said people actually pay to have fake freckles put on (disclaimer - I am not sure that's true?).

So that stupid media request made me question my own appearance, the freckles I've never paid much attention to but now I do - so thanks a fucking bunch you media request bastards. You didn't empower me. Your shitty little advert with gorgeous women with their perfectly, perfect imperfections won't empower me - so in a nutshell, BOG OFF.
