Can we have separate board for London

antimatter · 26/02/2016 11:56

Is there possibility to give us that?

I would like to be able to share my findings like a nice coffee shop I visited today and ask others to share their favourite finds.

Talk about local plays (musical theater or theater) or places and walks to visit not necessarily as a tourist but a Londoner.

To talk about history on London and various activities available for grown ups.

I've seen posts like that in chat and other boards in the past but they are hard to search for and obviously some disappear after a certain time.

I hadn't commented on this thread previously, but I agree a London wide topic is a good idea for the same reasons as stated by PPs :

  • Many of us who live here probably go to a number of other boroughs on a regular, if not daily, basis for a variety of reasons. I doubt many of us even think about which other borough/s we are actually visiting that day!
  • The proliferation of "what can we do in London" threads, from MNers who are planning a visit could all be consolidated in one topic (assuming people post in the London topic, rather than in Chat!)
  • Requests for insider knowledge about places to visit in other areas we're unfamiliar with (taking BIWI's example of the gin tasting bistro in Chiswick!)

-----

"Or two, north of the river and south of the river." I think that would complicate things further - especially for visitors to London. I live south of the river, but frequently go to places north of the river - in fact it's probably quicker for me to get a mainline train to north of the river than to get a bus or tube to somewhere else south of the river!

Thatrabbittrickedme · 01/05/2016 10:15

Just spotted this thread in active, I missed it first time round. I would like a London board also. I live on the river, and on the edge of three boroughs and get about a lot across town as well. Picking one borough board (that has emailed me once on the last 6 months) just isn't relevant to us Londoners.

It would be great to share hints, local tips, talk about theatre shows etc. I suspect there'd be a lot of cathartic moaning about commuting and the cost of childcare as well Wink

thecatfromjapan · 06/05/2016 18:33

Just bumping this in case any Londoners are looking for a home to discuss electoral results.

thecatfromjapan · 06/05/2016 18:35

Have to admit, I'm glad The dog whistle campaign failed. Quite like the idea of London choosing to be a city without dogs.

thecatfromjapan · 06/05/2016 19:02

Looks like it's just me...Sad

This thread is in 'chat' so will auto delete. Pity. It would be so at home in a Londond topic.

Or is everyone else well capable of eating their way round every single recommendation within 90 days, leaving me as the only lightweight?

Another thread that would have been ideal for a London topic

FruOla · 12/08/2016 08:49

Bumping. There's another thread in Chat at the moment about 'things to do in London' - I'll find it in a mo!

Vvlgari · 12/08/2016 09:10

Another vote for a London board from me.

Surferjet · 12/08/2016 09:40

Fab idea! would really like a London board. Smile

fingles · 12/08/2016 09:53

still waiting for DawnMumsnet to report back Grin

NotCitrus · 12/08/2016 10:44

London board would be great - the Lambeth board isn't useful as its a long thin borough so only relevant for council-run stuff, and local areas have own social media groups already.

BoGrainger · 12/08/2016 10:56

I live in the Home Counties and would love a London board. Always looking for different places and events to go to. Haven't read the whole thread but why didn't it happen?

Dutchoma · 12/08/2016 12:16

Yes, I would like a London board too. I am near enough to visit even though I don't live there.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/08/2016 17:06

Great idea. Yes please!

FruOla · 12/08/2016 18:37

Bumping again for MNHQ to further consider this idea.

Dripdrop · 13/08/2016 20:37

Yes, please to a London board. The local ones are too specific.

MirrorMirrorOnTheFloor · 13/08/2016 20:44

Yes, please! That 'lesser known things to do in London by yourself' thread needs a home! I'd only heard of about half of them, and I've lived here all my life.

SquirmOfEels · 01/09/2016 06:24

A thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2721470-Where-is-London which made me think of this one.

MNHQ: you said you'd report back as soon as possible. Any news?

SquirmOfEels · 19/12/2016 14:03

Still waiting for that reply promised by MNHQ...

EdithWeston · 21/12/2016 20:08

It's been nearly 10 months since MNHQ said they'd report back 'as soon as possible'

Is this a record?

YesThisIsMe · 21/12/2016 20:25

I can't believe that I didn't post on this the first time round but yes, there's such a huge number of "what shall I do with the DC on our day trip to London?" "How do I use an oyster?" "What's the quickest way to Leicester Square from Euston with a double buggy?" questions from visitors that clearly can't possibly go on a Local board because the poster in question lives in Chippenham. And if I in Lambeth, want to ask anyone for brilliant ideas for restaurants to take the inlaws or ballet schools for DD, then I need advice from people who know Southwark and Westminster. Chat disappears so we find ourselves explaining what an Oyster is to confused visitors every three months.

SquirmOfEels · 26/12/2016 19:55

Yes YesThisIsMe

I'm just posting on another 'what to do in London for a few days?' thread. And will keep doing so, on any thread where I think I can help.

But that doesn't stop me wanting to see the answer from MHHQ that they promised about 10 months ago

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 26/12/2016 22:48

Yes, I post on the "what to do in London" threads regularly too. Often the information can be more or less copied & pasted from my previous posts on other threads.

And it doesn't really help if HQ move them to the UK or Travel advice boards because then they get lost.

Plus there have been some fabulous recommendations on London threads before & it would be great to have them all in one place.
