Can we have separate board for London

Is there possibility to give us that?

I would like to be able to share my findings like a nice coffee shop I visited today and ask others to share their favourite finds.

Talk about local plays (musical theater or theater) or places and walks to visit not necessarily as a tourist but a Londoner.

To talk about history on London and various activities available for grown ups.

I've seen posts like that in chat and other boards in the past but they are hard to search for and obviously some disappear after a certain time.

Jesus anti there's no point trying to have anything other than a deadly serious, incredibly aggressive conversation with you, is there?

antimatter · 26/02/2016 12:53

I am not the owner of MN to decide where it should be created and if it's needed.

My post expresses my own opinion and would like to see input of MN and those who are interested in using it.

When information is organised and grouped is easier to access and serves purpose.
Some discussions are suitable for chat others for more specific boards.

MN is what people who are using it make of it.

Even if there were a London board wouldn't people post in Chat "for the traffic" anyway?

Well, the traffic in London is shocking! Wink it's like Piccadilly Circus you know.

thatstoast · 26/02/2016 13:01

I've checked out the mumsnet local boards for London. They obviously have everything apart from sarcasm.

Gowgirl · 26/02/2016 13:05

Anti matter - this was never going to end wellGrin for what it's worth the local board for my borough is very quiet! Maybe just start a thread in another subject and make it clear in the title and those that need it will gravitate over!

dingit · 26/02/2016 13:09

Wow. Everyone's pissy on here today.

I get it Op, it would be interesting Smile

antimatter · 26/02/2016 13:13

Gowgirl - I knew many would criticise my idea for being separatist but I am not interested in arguments or fights.

I genuinely think there's enough to talk about culture and places to go, coffee shops, local am-dram performances, cultural festivals, charity events.

I went to an new place this morning to have coffee. It was very nice. It is an independent shop, I would like to recommend it to others who are working in my area. IMHO a thread about coffee shops in central London would logically belong to a board such as.... I don't know which one?

BYOSnowman · 26/02/2016 13:15

I get where you are coming from op. The local boards cover too small an area so I don't bother using them. A local London board would be nice

BYOSnowman · 26/02/2016 13:15

Where is the coffee shop??

RiverTam · 26/02/2016 13:16

I kind of agree with the OP. The local boards are by borough (and for my borough there's actually are much better local forum which I use for borough-specific stuff) so not suitable for anything general. But also it would mean that Londoners could talk about stuff without pissing everyone else off with our London-centricness.

And surely the OP can ask without everyone jumping down her throat.

ouryve · 26/02/2016 13:16

Here's an idea - go into chat and start a thread, say "favourite coffee shops in London".

That way, anyone who lives in London or has ever been to London will be able to contribute.

antimatter · 26/02/2016 13:20

ouryve - have you seen how fast posts on chat are moving out of 1st page?

who scrolls through pages and pages of posts searching for a specific post?

OP posts:
antimatter · 26/02/2016 13:22

Re: coffee shop
I went to one off Fenchurch st
www.curatorscoffee.com/

got guest espresso but as black americano, I got a hint of orange and hot chocolate!
unfortunately I didn't ask for the variety they used but will next week

It's not that stupid of a request. Just as a visual this map is very interesting. If you have Scotsnet, why not Londonsnet?

Can we have separate board for London
RiverTam · 26/02/2016 13:22

ouryve and a load of people will pile in bitching about London bias pretentious wank blah blah. Have a London topic and people can hide it if they want.

BYOSnowman · 26/02/2016 13:23

If it's in chat it's makes it more difficult to find London related things. It would just be like the local boards but not so fragmented

Why do we need those if we can just start threads in chat?

WaitrosePigeon · 26/02/2016 13:23

I actually agree with the OP. She's been given a real harsh time here.

WaitrosePigeon · 26/02/2016 13:23

Or he, my apologies!

OP posts:

I never want to be drawn into political or personal discussions outsode of relevant boards/areas.

I want to be able to share finds and quirks with people who are like minded in going out for a pint or coffee and want to experience something special.

It isn't about having lots of money and most of us have limited time so for the likes of us a mug of coffee for £2.80 will make day trip different from others!

OP posts:
gooseberryroolz · 26/02/2016 13:36

Yes, there are lots of us ducky, but we don't have a separate legal, political or education system, or a unique language, or any of those sorts of things that sustain the Scotland board.

We get enough accusations of this that and the other from everyone else as it is Grin

NeverEverAnythingEver · 26/02/2016 13:41

I see your £2.80 coffee and raise you a £1.20 coffee in my local cafe. Grin (Confession: I'm a coffee near-agnostic and will drink almost anything that's not Starbucks' or nescafe, but I like this coffee. Given that I can't get the type that we get where I grew up ... )

If you get a board I'll come and talk London with you. I love London.

duckyneedsaclean · 26/02/2016 13:43

We do have, for instance, mayoral elections, large events taking place which cause disruption, a very different travel system, crazy house prices & rental rates, blah blah etc. I can't imagine the many mners who aren't in London are very interested in taking about all that crap. And, as the op said, mn local pages are only for small areas of London.

Not that I would want to talk about any of that, but some people might

bibbitybobbityyhat · 26/02/2016 13:43

This is a great thread started by me last year with loads of ideas and things to do off the beaten track in Lunnun thread for Londoners.

We really don't need a separate topic for London though! We've got literally hundreds of surplus topics already.
