Can we have separate board for London

Is there possibility to give us that?

I would like to be able to share my findings like a nice coffee shop I visited today and ask others to share their favourite finds.

Talk about local plays (musical theater or theater) or places and walks to visit not necessarily as a tourist but a Londoner.

To talk about history on London and various activities available for grown ups.

I've seen posts like that in chat and other boards in the past but they are hard to search for and obviously some disappear after a certain time.

I was just going to say that no tourists would come to my part of London, but they've actually built a few hotels here. Hmm Grin

There are also visiting relatives. They are different from Londoners and "normal" tourists, I think. They are often accompanied by Londoners to do touristy things, but also accompany Londoners to do school runs and supermarket shopping, which is an odd experience, having been the tour guide myself...

Hennifer at your request growing beard as we speak!

'London just ain't that speshul!'.

No one is saying it's "speshull" for everyone. It's pretty "speshull" for those of us who live here and love it though.

Is that OK?

forkhandles4candles · 26/02/2016 17:04

great idea. and yes Time Out is a pile doo doo now. Can't find local events on it any more. I think it would be good to post up things here, things happening, good cafes etc etc. Local Boards don't do it.

tribpot · 26/02/2016 17:11

MN Local at borough level does seem excessively local to me. A local board that covered London seems more sensible but MN could poss offer both, so if you spent your entire life lurking inside a single borough you wouldn't have hear about the goings on elsewhere in the city. But a more general board would be more useful to me as a regular visitor.

Lovecat · 26/02/2016 17:13

I think it's a great idea. I live in one (outer) London borough, used to work in central london and am totally out of touch with what's new and good anymore. I'm always in London with DD in the holidays and am constantly looking out for what's good and new and interesting. It would be great to get and give personal recommendations. I also have plenty of friends in neighbouring and far-flung boroughs and beyond and I'd like to know about good places to go when meeting up.

I don't think that makes me outrageously pretentious, does it? (Don't ask me to grow a beard or wear a tweed waistcoat, for Christ's sake.. )

What's to stop a tourist using a London board too?

Really odd attitude that this is being asked for because 'London is speshul '. It's because the local boards are too narrow but for some reason mn decided that London needed to be split up

antimatter · 26/02/2016 17:23

I think board like I am suggesting will be very busy!

Looking at all that negativity from earlier today made me understand why nobody before wanted to put their head on the proverbial block Grin

(my beard, tweedy socks and knobishness will protect me though!)

I'd like a London board

I dont know if anyone really uses the local boards much, do they? I'm sure some are busier than others, but mine was tumbleweedy last time I looked which was sometime in the late baroque

sleepwhenidie · 26/02/2016 17:33

I'd like to see a London board too, for all the reasons stated by supportive pp's. Requests from visitors for day out recommendations/places to eat/best way to travel around/where to stay/park/take a toddler are very frequent in chat and it would be much more useful to have it all in one place, for visitors or residents.

SoupDragon · 26/02/2016 17:36

I think it's a bonkers idea and I live in a South London borough.

EdithWeston · 26/02/2016 17:37

I hope very much that tourists would use it.

And commuters, so they can be on MN local where they live, but gripe talk about travelling to and working in London in a topic.

And I think it shouldn't be a local board, so that people who only want to chat about London from time to time don't have to faff to register a separate name for it.

lightgreenglass · 26/02/2016 17:39

Throwing my hat in too. I would like a London board for things to do in London with/without kids. I'm always googling and the same blogs come up again and again in central London but I am sure there are fab places further afield that I don't know about as there are fab places in my borough that people don't know about.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 26/02/2016 17:41

Can I moan my tits off about Boris all day long?

PirateSmile · 26/02/2016 17:42

BYOSnowman It's bloody hilarious that you've mentioned schools.

There's barely a mention of schools outside London on the Education boards.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 26/02/2016 17:43

I agree that the local boards don't really work for London - maybe the answer is to have one London local board with talk topics for smaller areas as needed.

BYOSnowman · 26/02/2016 17:44

That's the point isn't it though pirate?

When I look at the education boards I'd rather it wasn't crammed with questions about specific schools. That could be dealt with on a local board if they weren't so narrowly focussed

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 26/02/2016 17:46

People who dont want a London board

I don't get it

It's one thing you not wanting to use it, but why shouldn't other peeps if they so wish iykwim

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 26/02/2016 17:51

I'd like a London board too. Local boards rarely have much traffic and are too specific.
I don't like in London but go there often, not as a tourist, and find that I've missed loads of stuff that's on that I could easily have gone to if I'd known. Or I find out about the cafes or restaurants only when I happen to see something in another thread. Or the play/event/festival happens to make the headlines, by which it's too late to go to it because it's over/sold out. Loads of little random comments on threads here have prompted me to look something up (like the Lumiere festival recently, or a certain chain of tea shops, or an exhibition in one of the lesser known galleries), and it would be good if it were all in one place. Tourists could also use the board if they wanted - it would be a good place for talking to lots of people who know London, since people are often planning day trips out there.

SquirmOfEels · 26/02/2016 17:56

"Can I moan my tits off about Boris all day long?"

Grin

The mayoral election is 5 May. So you'll need to get London-specific moaning in soon. Unless you're in Uxbridge, of course...

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 26/02/2016 18:01

Fuck yes! Get the London board up quick!

My slagging-off-MAYOR-Boris time is running out!

NeverEverAnythingEver · 26/02/2016 18:03

Yes! Down with Boris!

MrsJayy · 26/02/2016 18:06

Why dont you just start a London chat thread the area you are talking about is specific why does it need a whole section its 1city it would mean everybody would need a city section that is what Local is for surely.
