Can we have separate board for London

Is there possibility to give us that?

I would like to be able to share my findings like a nice coffee shop I visited today and ask others to share their favourite finds.

Talk about local plays (musical theater or theater) or places and walks to visit not necessarily as a tourist but a Londoner.

To talk about history on London and various activities available for grown ups.

I've seen posts like that in chat and other boards in the past but they are hard to search for and obviously some disappear after a certain time.

That's the problem mrs jay- the areas on local are too narrow. I live nw but I am just as likely to visit things in se

My kids school is in a different area to our house and both mine and dh's work and the main museum area etc

SquirmOfEels · 26/02/2016 18:11

If MNetters in other cities want to make a case to have one, there's nothing stopping them asking.

I do however think there is a issue of scale though. The population of London, as pointed out above, is greater than that of Scotland and Wales combined, and if you chuck in commuters, you can add Northern Ireland to that too.

It sometimes seems more like another country, rather than just another city.

LBOCS2 · 26/02/2016 18:13

I think a London board is a good idea. Or two, north of the river and south of the river. The boroughs are much too small, in actual geographic area they're tiny, despite being populous like a PP said, I'm often spending time doing activities in three or four boroughs per day and I'm not going to trawl through each of those borough based boards just to find something nearby.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 26/02/2016 18:16

Could we merge all the boroughs into a single London board?

PirateSmile · 26/02/2016 18:17

I think the Education boards would still be dominated by questions about London schools whether or not there was a London topic BYOSnowman , so in answer to your question I don't think that's 'the point.'

BYOSnowman · 26/02/2016 18:19

When I was considering schools I went and looked at the local boards first but no one seems to use them. I would hoped a broader local topic would take local questions off the main board.

Bonxie · 26/02/2016 18:20

I think it's a really good idea. On an average sort of day you can cover 3 or 4 boroughs.

It's very much not about London being special; it's about it being as ordinary as anywhere else, but huge.

antimatter · 26/02/2016 18:33

I think also people are much less likely to discuss various topic on their local boards are often cautious of being identified because they post more doecific bits on general boards.
Saing I live in London is like saying I am one of 10 M people. I can share are I work in because there are at least 100K people working on those few sq miles.
Anonimity on boards like this one we like a lot. Yet personalised to our needs.

If local boards were right for this purpose don't you think they would have been used in that way by now?

I think the idea of one large london board is a great idea.

Gowgirl · 26/02/2016 18:50

This thread might just work, the usual anti London crowd don't seem to be out in force today....I just realise I've been in four boroughs today as well but only just realised!

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 26/02/2016 18:50

What do we want?

A BOARD FOR LONDON!

When do we want it?

JUST AFTER WE'VE FINISHED THIS SO CALLED STREET FOOD THAT COST 15 QUID BUT BEFORE WE START ON THIS SHIT CRAFT BEER OUT OF A FUCKING JAM JAR

Gowgirl · 26/02/2016 18:52

Street food mudder?

I only feed my children carefully sourced organic quinoa!

antimatter · 26/02/2016 19:02

Gowgirl · 26/02/2016 19:04

Of course anti matterGrinit's not like property is cheap! Lol

SquirmOfEels · 26/02/2016 19:11

This is not just street food, this is a chipotle brisket burrito with traditional pico de gallo, smooth guacamole, crunchy lettuce and Monterey Jack cheese in Brockley Market.

DawnMumsnet · 26/02/2016 19:12

Evening all,

Thought we'd wait for the buns to stop flying before stopping by here. Well, the artisan, gluten-free banana loaves, obvs.

So, this request seems to have divided opinion just a wee bit, but it seems as though there's a fair bit of interest in an all-of-London topic. Have no idea at all if it's feasible, but will ask the powers that be and report back as soon as possible.

Cheers, antimatter. Smile

Owllady · 26/02/2016 19:15

Banana loaves make your poo weird, wherever you live

BYOSnowman · 26/02/2016 19:15

Can you at least see if a London local board would be possible - modelled on the Manchester one perhaps?

DawnMumsnet · 26/02/2016 19:20

@Owllady

Banana loaves make your poo weird, wherever you live

Too true.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 26/02/2016 19:24

Just HOW do you pronounce "chipotle"?? (Have I outed myself as living in one of the less cool boroughs?)

Didn't know that about banana loaves.

Gowgirl · 26/02/2016 19:26

Any borough is cooler than everywhere else never everGrin
Flameproof vest on......and ready steady post!

UndercoverinSE22 · 26/02/2016 19:27

Would love to be able to belong to local board AND a London-wide one.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 26/02/2016 19:31

Oh my good lord just buy a copy of time out FFS Time Out has been a free sheet (and rubbish) since 2012 Grin

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 26/02/2016 19:33

I would like a London board and all the haters could ignore it. They won't, of course.

musicinspring1 · 26/02/2016 19:34

I would be interested in a London board. I live in a London Borough but my local board is very slow moving and I frequent more than one borough anyway...
