I agree Arkkorox, MNrs are bloody lovely and I'm enjoying the cameraderie so much!

OhBigHairyBollocks · 22/08/2015 08:54

Underthrgreenwoodtree
That's been happening to me too. I'm using chrome on android.

Lweji · 22/08/2015 08:58

If he was trying to make everyone hate and leave the forum because of security etc he's failed massively

Because MN is the people!

He may have a few thousand MNetters with inquisitive nosy personalities and time on their hands, though.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 22/08/2015 08:58

HairyBollocks - it does ring phishing alarm bells doesn't it? Like they managed to add an extra screen to harvest passwords again

Change your password again - just to be on the safe side.

MagpieCursedTea · 22/08/2015 08:59

Morning all!
Jeffrey seems upset about his website being down, hopefully we're nearing the end now.
I'm getting ready to go to the in laws for the weekend. Downing a big coffee Brew

LifeOfBriony · 22/08/2015 09:01

Please can we have a sticky thread with posts only from MNHQ, that MNers are not able to post to? I don't have the time to read 4000+ messages. Updates all in the same place would be really useful, and there would be a greater chance that MNers will see all the information they need.

Thanks......

Hope this doesn't come across as abrupt. I can't be the only one who feels this way.

LifeOfBriony · 22/08/2015 09:04

I see Littledrummergirl has asked the same thing.

Arkkorox · 22/08/2015 09:05

I think an admin only thread just for big updates might be a good idea, then we can keep the Hackergate threads for people to ask questions and so HQ can chat to us?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/08/2015 09:08

Is it possible to have a sticky with important info from mnhq that no one else writes on as it's getting difficult to find important stuff through the chatter

PleaseLetThisNameChangeWork · 22/08/2015 09:09

There's an MNHQ-only page of FAQs linked from the homepage. They've been updating with key info as and when they have it: www.mumsnet.com/info/mumsnet-site-attacks-faqs-and-updates

PleaseLetThisNameChangeWork · 22/08/2015 09:09

Big old crosspost there Grin

howtorebuild · 22/08/2015 09:13

Morning, I got woken at 8 by next door removing their built in wardrobes on the partywall. Lots of blackboard scraping type drilling and banging going on. Thankfully I had a supermarket shop organised. As the dc are getting up late it gave me chance to stash the dirty food.

IFancyRichard · 22/08/2015 09:15

I was about to post the same link

I think that people need to remember that although they want updates and info it's highly likely that behind the scenes some information is best withheld to bring this to an end.

Plus... If nothing else, let's bore them (the hackers) away

Bottom line is everyone should review their own security. Don't use same password. Hide your address and location on FB and Twitter. Review privacy settings. If it wasn't an attack on this website you can be sure in the future it will be another one. This is just one site.

I'm very reluctant to link FB and Twitter to any forum I use because it's just creating a link into another part of my life. I wish they'd stop encouraging it.

PleaseLetThisNameChangeWork · 22/08/2015 09:15

BrewCakeFlowers for you all.

Pipbin · 22/08/2015 09:27

Morning all.
We very over slept here. The cat tried to wake me at about 7 but gave it up as a bad job.

Last night I was emptying my Mooncup when I heard a van pull up outside. That would have been a very Mumsnet swatting.

itsraininginbaltimore · 22/08/2015 09:28

Sorry if this has already been answered but there is so much to wade through on this topic it's exhausting.

How do you go about asking for posting history to be deleted? And don't someone say 'just ask MNHQ - I know that, I'm just not sure HOW to ask them! Is there a special section for things like that? And it is possible to ask for it for specific NNs only or will it delete all posts for the whole account holder?

TIA

Arkkorox · 22/08/2015 09:28

how I do that from DP Grin

IFancyRichard · 22/08/2015 09:29

Adverts are obviously what pays for all free sites. No one provides a website out of community spirit (other than the local running club etc)

Does getting members to link more and more of their personal info, interests and other info equate to more bargaining power for advertisements costs? Every site is doing it, not just MN. Spotify are in the news for very similar reasons. Messenger, Google etc all try and force you to enter mobile numbers, contacts, give access to locations etc etc.

It's easy when exhausted by the frequent requests to just click ok. I regularly review settings especially as lots of them seem to refresh during software updates to allow them to do this Hmm (I'm looking at you Apple)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/08/2015 09:31

Baltimore there is no special section. Just email them at the usual address, and explain exactly what you'd like them to do.

PleaseLetThisNameChangeWork · 22/08/2015 09:31

Its - this is what MNHQ say on the page linked to above: "Please mail [email protected] with a request to delete your history - we're working to respond to all de-reg and deletion requests as quickly as we can, but it may take a little time - apologies."

tigerscameatnight · 22/08/2015 09:34

itsraining report your post and ask in the message for whole user posts to be deleted. be warned though that they just delete your posts not the whole thread so it's searchable still and they can put page address into Google cache and it shows original deleted posts in full Sad
So if there's any posts you are really worried about report that individual post and ask for the whole thread deleted so it doesn't show up in search.

PleaseLetThisNameChangeWork · 22/08/2015 09:37

MNHQ - is it worth putting a stickied post that just directs people to the FAQ page at the top of Active convos and including a link in the OP on each of these threads? I think so many of us come through via the talk boards that we aren't necessarily seeing the FAQ page on our way in to the site. I know it was in the emails you've been sending out, but that feels like ages ago now - can't imagine what it feels like for all of you.

suzannefollowmyvan · 22/08/2015 09:45

Agreed, I never sign in with google / FB / twitter, doesn't that mean you are FB etc permission to access your mn account?
?
On the pretext of making life easy for us these companies are gathering information about the users which can be amalgamated, cross referenced and used for profit. It also means that info is centralized in databases which make attractive targets for criminals who can hack in, steal it and sell it on to other criminals?.

Mumsnet presumably has access to all our activity on the site, all the name changes pms sent and received, even if we delete them will still be on the server.

Same goes for FB, everything you do they have a record of, all your stalking activities they know who's photos you peruse. ?

itsraininginbaltimore · 22/08/2015 09:56

thanks for that info Tigers

Pipbin · 22/08/2015 10:03

They were saying in Woman's Hour the other day that a pregnant woman in the most valuable advertising commodity........

No to alarm anyone, but I just went to log into my banking app and it asked me to go through the full log in procedure again for security reasons. Most likely just regular stuff I guess.
