Previous thread here and original thread here

We will post here throughout the day with updates and info, please do post any questions and we will get to them as soon as possible.

If you need to get in touch off of the boards, please email [email protected], we have a team of people working through the inbox now and will get back to you ASAP but please do bear with us, it's very busy.

There is also a specific thread about passwords here.

Thanks all
MNHQ

meols if your name was on the list, and you've changed to a different password here and on other sites (if you used the same pw for toher things) - there is nothing to be worried about.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 21/08/2015 11:18

I would like to know

It was on a website he set up, but it's probably not a good idea to link to it (There is a thread somewhere that does, i can't remember which).
If you've seen your username on the list thread here, then it would have had your password next to it.

Am I right in thinking that the MNetter that got swatted was the one who was winding him up on Twitter, I can't see why he would have sent a swat attack to a random member but in the first forum attack there were a few of us posting on his titter taking the piss.

_

As you state, quite a few people were engaging with him on twitter and only one person was targeted, and I honestly don't know if she was among them. I do know that at least one of them has had no apparent consequences so far. Not having a RL name on there could be something to do with it, or not.

catsrus · 21/08/2015 11:19

Wolsey when we all signed up we agreed to the MN terms and conditions of use www.mumsnet.com/info/terms-of-use

Anything we post on here becomes part of a large store of messages, images etc that we give MN permission to use. They are under no obligation to you, or any of us, to delete any of that. They provide the platform for us to interact with each other, we give them data to use. We do not pay them to hold our data securely, we enter into a reciprocal arrangement of benefit to both. MN constantly post messages telling people not to give away more than we are comfortable with - whether time, money or information. We're grownups and need to take responsibility for anything we choose to put online.

My name and password were on the list too. I'm not worried. I've worked in IT for almost 20 yrs. If this were my bank or my GPs surgery I would be worried. This is a free website where I talk about cats and weight loss (among other things).

YonicScrewdriver · 21/08/2015 11:20

Melos, the list is on dadsec own site.

DontTellThePrincessBride · 21/08/2015 11:20

I think even if your name isn't on The List it would prudent to do some internet housekeeping.

StephanieBeacham · 21/08/2015 11:22

Meols, yes it was linked to from his twitter account which has since been suspended (though he is using someone else's now).

The link was put on here several times and has since been deleted for obvious reasons.

It may have been copied by any number of random people out there in the interim. Also it is still linked to from his 'website' (if you can call it that - it's just a homepage really isn't it - bit rubbish)

if you want to look it up you can find it on google. Will PM you so as not to advertise him on here.

RebeccaMumsnet · 21/08/2015 11:25

@Wolsey

MN - I feel quite strongly that as one of the 3000 published names and passwords that you should deal with my email requests for a deletion of posting history as a priority. I wish all trace of me to be removed from this website. I then intend to de-reg.

Hi Wolsey,

We are going through mails one-by-one and we have a large team working on it but the volume is high. If you have any specific posts that you would like removed quickly, please do report if less than ten or so. If you would still like a mass delete, we will get to you as quickly as we possibly can.

Apologies for the delay.

Morning all :)

Wolsey (and anyone else with similar concerns), can i suggest that if there are individual threads/posts of yours that you are worried about outing you, if you report them direct through the thread, they may get deleted faster. This based on my assumption that the staff resonsible for day to day housekeeping of threads are not those doing the big jobs (such as deleting someones entire posting history) at the mo (?).

But yy to this being a reminder that anything posted is never truly deleted.

Apologies to hq in advance if my idea is a bad one!

iamaboveandBeyond · 21/08/2015 11:29

Haha, x post with rebecca! Grin

ghostspirit · 21/08/2015 11:33

SoupDragon · 21/08/2015 11:48

Those people might be scared but they'll be better informed about the Internet

I lost part of what I was posting!

blowinahoolie · 21/08/2015 11:52

When I come on to the homepage of MN, I am not seeing like I do when I start up any other web page. Should I be worried?

This is before I even log in my username and password details...

00100001 · 21/08/2015 11:52

you should only see https at the login screen.

Simurgh · 21/08/2015 11:56

Out of interest, I wonder how many people using this site have recently checked and cleaned their devices? I suspect that any increase in malware is a coincidence (or linked perhaps to the issue of W10 for those on PCs) but I wonder just how many people here have contaminated devices without knowing it?

blowinahoolie · 21/08/2015 11:56

Ok, thanks 001.

YonicScrewdriver · 21/08/2015 12:00

jason, useful posts.

I am getting relatively quick responses to troll reports etc which backs up Rebecca's comment upthread.

RepeatAdNauseum · 21/08/2015 12:07

MNHQ - Is the forced kick-out over now? It didn't ever happen to me. I feel a bit left out :(

pangaea90 · 21/08/2015 12:08

Sorry if this has already come up (started reading back through but will run out of time if I try to get through it all!), but I can't log onto the main site on a computer. Password is definitely right, address for login page looks right, but when I log in it just takes me to the home page and I can't access my account. Clicking the 'log in' button after that just keeps going back to the home page.

Tried in a couple of browsers and still can't get in. I can't remember how much detail about me/kids is stored in my account, but I want to get in and remove as much as possible!

Is this something to do with the hacking, does anybody know, or just something going a bit wrong for me?

MagpieCursedTea · 21/08/2015 12:17

He's active on Twitter again claiming he'll be doxing people today.
Why haven't Twitter banned him?
