PLEASE READ: Forced logout and password reset

Hello everyone,

Our apologies again for the stress and upset of the last week, and in particular the last 24 hours - and thanks for your patience and support in helping us deal with it.

Thanks to everyone who’s raised concerns about the strength of passwords on Mumsnet. We’ve now built new code which will oblige anyone logging in to create a new, complex password that conforms to higher security standards.

In the next hour, we’re going to force all users to be logged out. Then we'll change all users' passwords so they MUST reset their password to log back in. To make absolutely certain that everyone has a new, secure password, you’ll be logged out even if you’ve already changed your password in the last two days.

We’re sorry that this is the second mass password-reset in the space of a couple of days, but now we have code in place to strengthen security, we want to implement it as soon as possible.

Please don’t worry when you’re logged out: it’s MNHQ, not the hacker, behind it.

Thanks again
MNHQ

Yet another password to remember, it's a total pain as I've just had to do it yesterday.
Written down passwords are not secure but I'm going to have to do it cos my memory is shite!

I don't have access to my email account - can I just change the password onsite?

Thanks Sarah. I know it's been a hell of a day for you and if we all have to remember a new password I think that's a small price to pay for better security for everyone.

Mine is going to be Pa55w07d1234

Just kidding Grin

No, Lavender, because they're going to kick you (and everyone else) off the site. Might be easier just to re-register.

Think this should be a MASSIVE sticky at the top of all boards mnhq, not many people will see this otherwise amongst all the other thousands of official and unofficial threads about this

I think I'm going to reset my password to my original one from years ago, then I may remember it.

Talking about which, as Tech are reeling I suspect, and willing to give you most anything to get you off their back, do you think HQ could persuade them to bring in a small Gin emoticon? (I'm thinking a little shot glass with a swizzle stick poking out.)

I've changed my password but it won't let me log in with new password. So I reset it again but still wouldn't let me log in. Have had to log in with FB to post this Confused

Btw, have had password reset confirmation emails so no idea why the password then doesn't work to log in!

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 19/08/2015 22:34

Hold fire on password resets because MNHQ are going to do it for you in a bit and you'll just have to reset your reset password.

UhtredOfBebbanburg · 19/08/2015 22:37

Well I've just logged back in with my current password. What is going on? You said you would force all users to reset passwords but...this hasn't happened...

ScandiManny · 19/08/2015 22:38

I thought they'd already done it? I was chucked out about 15 minutes ago and told my password was incorrect. I need to start writing all these passwords down... Wine

I was stopped from using an old password. I forgot I'd used it on here before.

Sod, I only did mine in the last couple of hours. Wondered why my bright shiny new one wasn't working when I'd been kicked out again.

Sorry to add to the questions but another thread says 'full list of hacks' and my name is on it, but not to post on that thread. I don't know what that means. I've changed my password, will this be enough?
