I wonder if having a Transgender topic might be useful?

It seems like a growth area and quite often discussed.

It would be helpful for the threads to hang about for longer than 30 days so people could be pointed in the direction of them
too.

"to silence women's voices that dissent from the transactivist dogma, eh MNHQ"

That was tried (last year?) and rejected by MNHQ. Some of us tried to define a "transphobia" policy on MN whereby opposing transactivist dogma such as "Transwomen are women, period!" would get you deleted and possibly banned in the long run.

Hence the reason why we have in MN one of the few online forums where you can quote dictionary definitions of words like female and woman and not be deleted for it.

Was yours the post saying Tiggy was a man? Are MNHQ under the impression Tiggy identifies as a woman?
In fact, has Tiggy started identifying as a woman only no-one's told us??

CoteDAzur · 16/06/2015 13:56

Well, on his My Mumsnet page, there is no sign of feeling like a woman or wishing to be called a woman:

TiggyD joined Mumsnet in December 2007. He lives in Basingstoke. He is 40. He does not have children.
What he says about himself
Legs, arms, ears, hair, no wings, tall, very nice.
I joined Mumsnet because I work with nursery children and like to hear what parents think.

FloraFox · 16/06/2015 13:58

Tiggy has said a number of times that he is a gay man.

InAndOfMyself · 16/06/2015 14:00

And yet Tiggy's cissy comment stands.

CoteDAzur · 16/06/2015 14:04

Ah OK. I didn't see those posts where he says he is gay.

Again, what seems to be the problem with a post telling people he is a man, then?

I've got to say that I'm a little uncomfortable with the fact that this thread has turned into a discussion about a particular poster rather than a discussion with him.

Can we take it back to a more general level, please ?

CoteDAzur · 16/06/2015 14:32

I think the last bit of the discussion is about the deletion of a post that merely pointed out that Tiggy is a man. I would also be interested to understand why that post was deleted, if MNHQ cares to explain it.

HayFeverHell · 16/06/2015 14:55

Queen transwomen aren't all rapists any more than men are, don't be ridiculous.

Of course they aren't.

Most men aren't rapist either, but we don't allow them in women's toilets, changing rooms, etc. How is it any different?

The only difference I see is that most men aren't trying to fool me, or take advantage of me. Within the ranks of transwomen, there may very well be predators seeking to taking advantage of this special situation.

IPityThePontipines · 16/06/2015 17:30

"Maybe if I address my question to a specific poster I'll get an answer.

IPityThePontipines - If we are all such hateful, transphobic bigots then why were we so nice to Miranda Yardley (a transwomen) when she came onto one of the trans threads in chat the other day?"

Queen - having one trans friend doesn't stop you being transphobic any more then having a black friend stops you from being racist.

Considering the tons of anti-trans threads on MN, going back years, the idea that anyone complaining about the existence of trans people gets silenced, is laughable. You've killed FWR, because it's all you want to talk about, to the exclusion of anything else.

Heckler · 16/06/2015 17:42
PuffinsAreFictitious · 16/06/2015 17:55

Queen won't be able to answer you pity. That silencing you say is laughable has happened and I don't hear much laughing.

What is laughable is the obvious lack of knowledge of subjects being discussed on FWR. Or who Miranda Yardley is. And the assumption that she is the only trans person we might know.

CoteDAzur · 16/06/2015 18:16

"the idea that anyone complaining about the existence of trans people gets silenced"

How many posts can you show where someone has complained about the existence of trans people?

What people have raised concerns about is the erosion of women's rights everywhere to accommodate the feelings of a small number of transwomen - because their feelings will be hurt if they are not accepted everywhere women go, since they are women because they feel like women. People have voiced incredulity and shock at the results of this "Woman is whoever feels like a woman even if they have never heard of hormone therapy, let alone had surgery", including having to undress side by side with the proud owner of a fully functional penis.

Reducing women's concerns about being forced to accept a situation they are not comfortable with to "they complain about the existence of trans" just shows how disconnected you are from the reality of this debate.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 16/06/2015 18:24

What do you mean puffins?

IPityThePontipines · 16/06/2015 18:36

Who is stopping you taking about trans people on MN? Btw, people disagreeing with you, is not silencing. On the back of two 1000 post threads in chat allll about the evil trans people, how on earth can you say you're being stifled on here?

I know who Miranda Yardley is, thanks and I'm no newbie, it's generally only the trans threads on FWR which get big traffic.

Heckler · 16/06/2015 18:46

I think that puffins is saying that Queen has been suspended from posting (if I understand this right), which is pretty silencing isn't it?

HermioneWeasley · 16/06/2015 19:10

Do we know why Queen has been suspended?

Heckler · 16/06/2015 19:24

I have no idea

RufusTheReindeer · 16/06/2015 19:28

It's a shame if she has been suspended, I can't see that she's been rude particularly

HermioneWeasley · 16/06/2015 19:40

I tried to PM her and couldn't, so I guess she has been suspended for some reason

TiggyD · 16/06/2015 19:42

There was a muddle at the start of this thread. Some poster referred to me as a male man. A second poster thought I was a trans woman and I believed they lodged a very strong complaint. The second poster then read my details and realised she had made a boo boo and got MNHQ to delete her post. The post that the second poster got erroneously angry about may still have got deleted by HQ though.

I'm bi and now older than 40. I still live in "The City Of Dreams": Basingstoke.

CoteDAzur · 16/06/2015 19:59

Actually, the post that got deleted only said "Tiggy is a man".

"Male man" would have been redundant anyway.

TiggyD · 16/06/2015 20:12

Which would have been a very bad thing to have said if I was a woman. It would have been deliberate misgendering and/or a personal attack on a much loved Mumsnetter, if I was a woman. Which I'm not.

I think it was just an accidental deletion caused by somebody getting the wrong end of the stick.
