Would MNHQ consider extending the definition of "misgendering"

Hi

I wondered what MNHQ and MNetters thought about extending misgendering to include referring to people as "cis"? There are many of us who find it offensive and reject it. Given that whenever it is used, there always at least one poster asking what it means, it seems unhelpful at best and offensive at worst.

If you support a blanket ban on 'cis' I assume you also support a blanket ban on 'trans'?

Ubik1 · 05/06/2015 07:17

It's simple .

If you don't like Cis (and I find it offensive too) then say so and have it out on the thread.

FloraFox · 05/06/2015 07:17

That doesn't follow Tiggy. I think you've missed the point.

TiggyD · 05/06/2015 07:24

On the whole trans people would much rather just be called men or women. Can we drop all reference to transwomen or transmen please.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 05/06/2015 07:29

No because that's factually incorrect

Women are women, trans women are trans women
Biologically and sociologically they are different gender categories

Clearly you're just trying to be provocative however as this distinction has been made many many times on this thread and others

FloraFox · 05/06/2015 07:40

MTTs are men who want to be treated as women. Women often don't want to be treated as women but know they are women and want society to change the way women are treated. MTTs don't necessarily want society to change how women are treated because they "identity" with that treatment.

TiggyD · 05/06/2015 07:41

But that's legally incorrect.

Trans women are women. To constantly describe them as transwomen rather than women is discriminatory. That is the big problem. Some people excluding trans people from their legal identity.

Tricky. That's why MNHQ don't want to get involved.

TiggyD · 05/06/2015 07:42

What does MTT mean?

ChuffinAda · 05/06/2015 07:44

But genetically they fall under the male Sex.

Ubik1 · 05/06/2015 07:48

This isn't about transwomen though

This is about the use of Cis

TiggyD · 05/06/2015 07:59

It's about an oppressing majority not wanting the oppressed minority to have equality.

They want women and transwomen. Normal and abnormal.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 05/06/2015 08:15

Women are not a goddamn oppressing majority
Fuck off with that
I recognise my straight privilege, my class Privelige and my race Privelige but Privelige for being biologically female? Fuck that.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 05/06/2015 08:16

"Normal and abnormal"
No, x and y. Apples and oranges. Men and women. Women and trans women. Both normal, but different.

FloraFox · 05/06/2015 08:18

Not all people who call themselves transwomen would be legally recognised as women and even then not for every purpose. MTT (which as you know means male to trans) is a useful catch all. Even for those who would fall under the legislation, the legislation does not require me as an individual to believe the unbelievable and to talk about it.

Men are not oppressed by women.

Ubik1 · 05/06/2015 08:20

But you are setting up the binary yourselves!

Sure be a woman - but why the need for Cis?

BathtimeFunkster · 05/06/2015 08:21

Oh look!

A man calling women the "oppressing majority".

It's almost as if trans issues were being used by men to tell women to get over their silly feminist nonsense and put people born with penises back at the top of the agenda.

Hmm
TiggyD · 05/06/2015 08:24

Cis people are the majority I was talking about.

And I have never heard the term "Male To Trans". Another way to discriminate against trans women then.

TiggyD · 05/06/2015 08:29

It's about equality Bathtime.

White people and black people,
Straight people and gay people,
Cis people and trans people.

Or do you want:
People and black people,
People and gay people,
People and trans people?

Either label both side equally, or neither side equally.

Weebirdie · 05/06/2015 08:31

Yes please.

I am sick to the back teeth of the whole bloody thing.

CoteDAzur · 05/06/2015 08:32

"Sure be a woman - but why the need for Cis?"

Because it is not enough for males who "feel like women" to be called 'she' and treated as women. In order to feel they are real women, they must push us out of that definition and into a new one.

Weebirdie · 05/06/2015 08:33

The above was in reply to the OP.

Women don't oppress men by virtue of being women. That applies equally to MTTs.

VenomousVorpent · 05/06/2015 08:42

I hate cis, it is a stupid term.

I don't agree with censorship. I think people should be able to say what they think and be challenged for it.

I am self censoring what I think about the trans activists who spend a lot of their energy attacking feminists. Not terribly self aware, are they?
