Thread titles

I know Mumsnet is a robust site used by adults but I am finding the Conception titles (which appear in Active, I am not seeking them out) a bit too much. There were mildly amusing before, but they are now, IMO, crude and unnecessary. Can they be reined in a little?

Thank-you.

You can hide threads and topics.

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 24/05/2015 16:39

Need I? I mean, I don't go into the Sweary threads, but their titles are, IMO, a lot less gratuitous, so they sit happily unopened in my Active ...

OP posts:
Flisspaps · 24/05/2015 16:44

No, you needn't but then the threads in question will still appear in your active threads list.

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 24/05/2015 16:46

Am I onto a loser here? I thought I was fairly open-minded, but each title is just a bit more, well, graphic.

You've been offered a solution - it's up to you to use it Hmm

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 24/05/2015 16:52

Was it? Had a quick scan and didn't see a thread on it. Fair enough, if that is what MNHQ say, but I don't think I am unreasonable to ask a question in Site Stuff.

OP posts:
TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 24/05/2015 16:55

Would they all be hidden or would each thread need to be individually? I don't wish never to see anything on Conception, but having to hide each title would sort-off defeat the object, as I would read each heading ...

OP posts:
YouMeddlingKids · 24/05/2015 16:58

Haha OP your italics are making me read each italicized word in a hushed voice, a la Miranda's mum.
I have conception hidden so have just had a quick look to see if there was anything scandalous - do you mean the bums in the air one? My mind had conjured up much more smutty titles...
Generally though I think conception is one of those topics that you only need to see if you're ttc, so you wouldn't miss much just by hiding it.

Also on the old thread about this lots of people posted to say that actually those threads were generally made up with people having a horrendously difficult time trying to conceive, so if a silly title helps them along the way there's really no harm in it.

I did get that, You, I was just suggesting it had gone a little far. I was not saying that any content was altered, as it could more easily be avoided, unlike titles. Ha, to the italics: was trying to avoid an over-use of quotation marks ...

Stick, I thought they did?

Twart, why the eye-roll? I was asking a polite question, not issuing a diktat.

MN have commented on this here.

honeysucklejasmine · 24/05/2015 17:08

Ah, this old chestnut again. We added a new rule after the last one on JSing... "I will not be offended by the word vagina".

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 24/05/2015 17:08

No, not bum.

Like I said above, I did think they were amusing, but now, IMO, they have become too crude. Note the IMO and the moderate way I phrased my initial question. My opinion, for it is just that, may not chime with yours, but that does not make it automatically wrong.

The folks in conception have rather more serious issues to consider.

Just don't read them. Or hide the topic. Or stop being precious.

Good linking pretzel Smile

Thank you Thursday ;)

OP, there was a thread about this a few weeks ago. Someone said they almost brought up their lunch again when they read a title (when I went looking for it, I agreed it was pretty grim too).

If anything, I find thread titles which extend to 4 lines long a bit tiresome and try too hard, no matter what topic they are in, but I just ignore them. As others have said, you could just hide the topic, and it won't come up on active convos.

honeysucklejasmine · 24/05/2015 17:17

The first conception thread I was on started "Jizz in your eye..." Can't remember the rest, but it sure set the tone! Grin
