Official Mumsnet mobile thread part 3

Morning all,

And welcome to the new thread!

As SarahMumsnet said at the end of the last thread, we have Tech on call for fixes this weekend, and various MNHQers will be here to talk and help wherever we can.

We'll be adding to the rolling list of bugs, glitches and dislikes (see below), so please keep the feedback coming. Do remember to list which device you're using, which operating system, and which browser, so we can identify the specific issues.

Right then, who's first?

Just to reiterate to others who have mentioned it, we are working to remove the adverts outside our control from sensitive topics asap. We're very keen not to cause upset and are working as fast as possible.

Nope no custom keyboards. They're fine again now, it was very peculiar.

Don't know if it's already been mentioned, but when I turn the iPhone from portrait to landscape then back again, I'm taken back to some random post in the previous couple of days, not where I was, and certainly not to my bookmark.

While doing this post, the keyboard seems to randomly freeze for several/many seconds. Especially after I try to scroll up to check what I've written. Does this go together with very slow reaction times for other functions, like opening the chevron and ellipse menus, and opening in-post pictures? (That's taking 30 + seconds). I know you were going to work on speed issues this week. That's probably the single most frustrating aspect for me now, the rest is coming together.

I know aesthetics are not a priority but when you get to it, I'd really love to see some colour, not the pale grey. It's really hard to distinguish OP's posts from the others. I love the blue and green colour scheme from the desktop site.

I can't imagine how much angst this is causing you, not to mention tech hours. Nothing is ever as simple as it seems with computers! I really appreciate all the efforts you're making. And I'm also in awe of all the input from unpaid MNers. This is a special site.

I have an emoji keyboard installed on my phone.
iPhone 5c. Safari. iOS 7.1.2

germgirl. We are on the same phone and same iOS version but I definitely don't have any emoji keyboard installed. Did yours 'fix' itself or are yours stuck permanently?

Hi crabb, thank you that's very useful to know. We've been turning phones this way and that during testing but we'll keep trying

Note about colours, we'll have a think about how to make highlighting less subtle and perhaps with a bit more colour.

We agree Mumsnet is a special site! and send HUGE thank yous to all mumsnetters who have been so responsive and willing to help us get mobile talk right.

Oh how very odd Lumineer thank you for screengrabbing that one, we'll take a look.

Germgirl and ItsNotEasyBeingGreen, thank you for the update we still haven't tracked down the strange icons mystery but have found reference to it sometimes happening when some iPhone users have downloaded certain emoji apps or keyboards. ItsNotEasyBeingGreen if you don't have any keyboards installed do you have any emoji apps at all?

Mine has fixed itself now. It happened when I switched from wifi to 3G although that may be completely coincidental. When I got back to wifi again it switched back within half an hour.
I haven't been out if the house since so I haven't tried 3G again. I'll switch my wifi off & see if it happens again.

Switched off the wifi & reset the phone & I can't replicate it so the wifi/3G thing seems to just be weirdly coincidental.
MN is working well for me now. I'm enjoying using it far more than I did when I used the app.

Definitely no emoji apps or keyboard. I'm a dinosaur I can't be doing with all that.

But now germgirl has mentioned it, it may have been during a 3G moment rather than wifi because when it happened my phone seemed to be running quite slowly. I'll keep a watch on it. In fact hang on. I'm going to switch wifi off.

Nope it's not come back again. Very strange.

My bookmark image thingy has stopped working. When I book marked i used to get a little logo on the post next to the ... So I could see where it was, now it's gone :(

My bookmark flag wotsit isn't appearing when I bookmark a post but it is working and if I go back into a thread it goes to the correct post & the flag thingy is now there. Only it's black & not blue like before.

Also in Site Stuff (not Active, haven't checked other topics) the ellipsis is appearing after MN stickied posts (see screenshot) but doesn't seem to do anything.

Bookmarks are back and correct colour. Ellipses still showing.

Hello all,

Tech have just released some updates to the mobile site so you may have noticed a momentary impact, including a bookmark wobble. Tech have sorted that now.

A note on some of the things we've introduced:

A link to unanswered threads under the chevron menu as requested.

Within the customise options, an option to hide social media and to 'show thread options'.

If you choose to show thread options you'll be able to watch and hide a thread directly at the topic/Active level via an ellipsis menu.

We'll be updating the Beginner's guide to reflect the new additions asap.
