Morning all,

And welcome to the new thread!
Grin

As SarahMumsnet said at the end of the last thread, we have Tech on call for fixes this weekend, and various MNHQers will be here to talk and help wherever we can.

We'll be adding to the rolling list of bugs, glitches and dislikes (see below), so please keep the feedback coming. Do remember to list which device you're using, which operating system, and which browser, so we can identify the specific issues.

Right then, who's first?

Galaxy Ace, android.

It looks perfect now, all the buttons have the icons. But, like MewlingQuim, they don't always work if it's a long thread or after I've looked at 3-4 threads. Sometimes it's quicker to close down my internet completely and start all over than wait for the ... or 'Active' on the blue bar to respond.

Also, if you do change the colour scheme, it would be helpful if the colour changed a lot more when you've tapped on something rather than just becoming a slightly different shade. e.g. could it be yellow or red rather than greyish blue. That way I would know for definite that my tap had worked!

Thanks.

Yes please to the guide underneath the posting box.
I keep finding that when I click on the 'here' in 'MN have commented...' I just get taken to the top of the thread. So apart from this thread I've no idea what you've said about anything else since last week.
You mentioned starting new threads about various mobile site issues - do link to them so we can come over and complain offer helpful advice.

I still cant use the mobile site on blackberry Q10 because the predictive text wont work :(

Sleepwhenidie · 02/09/2014 07:56

Ok I have been using the mobile site daily since it switched over and tried to like it but...

  • the screen feels too small with the ads at the top and the icons at the bottom
  • I hate not being able to have the active etc icons at the bottom unless I am logged in
  • it is irritating that the OP is no longer pasted at the top of each page, I have to go back to p1 to re-read it
  • it is more 'work' navigating around, for example I have to click '....' 'top' then ^ and 'watch' to watch a thread when before I could just click one tab instead of 4! Similarly I have to click on an actual thread and then the topic to get to a topic list of threads, rather than being able to click through, say 'Food' in the title of a thread in Active convos.
maxmissie · 02/09/2014 08:09

Chevron at top still appearing at top left and not clickable as per munchmallow's and nickelbabe's posts and my earlier posts. Not on a Samsung though, still on Firefox on HTC one Android. Is this a problem with Firefox as it wasn't an issue before I switched browser?

Still having to hide the bottom blue toolbar every day even though every day I customise it to be hidden.

Bookmarking still works when first going into a thread but am going to see what happens once I've posted this and see where in the thread I end up.

I'll take back my comment about the tiny side scroll button, it came up on another site as well so not just pertinent to mumsnet!

Also have to be really careful when typing posts as several times I've clicked on the ad behind the keyboard by mistake, not sure how but think it's because sometimes the screen jumps around.

Speed still awful in every way!

maxmissie · 02/09/2014 08:19

After posting my previous post was taken again to a random place on the thread on 28 Aug. Would expext to be taken to my previous post or my last bookmarked place. Do not appreciate then having to scroll down through half the thread to get back to where I last was.

Also I've got the same issue as alloutofnaiceham who posted on 31 Aug; when clicking on pics/photos in a post the screen freezes and goes black with a white bar across the middle before eventually loading up the pic.

I was browsing Facebook on my mobile (Samsung Galaxy S3 mini) yesterday and noticed something that gave me a flash of inspiration...

The "Status", "Photo" and "Check In" blue bar at the bottom of the page is about the same size as the shortcut bar on Mumsnet, but it isn't there all the time. It disappears when scrolling down the page and reading the newsfeed, but comes back again when scrolling up.

On Mumsnet the shortcut bar is really annoying (to me anyway) when it is visible the whole time and it takes up a lot of space on the screen. But it is equally annoying having to scroll to the top of the screen, click the little person icon, then click "show shortcut buttons" and then to Active, Watching or wherever. Seems like a lose-lose situation.

I don't post much on Mumsnet, but the change to the mobile site has seriously affected the way I browse. It just seems so much of a palaver, especially as I tended to browse when cooking dinner. It feels as though too much of my attention is needed to look at Mumsnet now.

Is the Facebook style of shortcut bar something you could consider on Mumsnet?

PinkAndBlueBedtimeBears · 02/09/2014 11:35

Okay, when that ad popped up I was on active convos screen.
Also, just had a fun new glitch! Firstly, I've lost my adverts not complaining! and I've had a glitch on my blue bar. When I clicked on... Whatever is there it turned the writing white! Screen shot attached!

I've skimmed the threads and can't work out the answer, and have been trying to use desktop version since the launch: how do I 'bump and reset' my watched threads?
I think it's just me not spotting it, but am on iPhone 5, iOS 7 and safari.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 02/09/2014 11:53

Why are there adverts inbetween posts on threads, its horrible and made me cry Sad

[Disclaimer] im 10 weeks pregnant and everything makes me cry Blush

seriously though its really annoying, having them at the top and bottom of the screen was bad enough but I can live with that, inbetween posts especially when its a thread about something important ie miscarriage/dv/affair etc just seems such bad taste.

enriquetheringbearinglizard · 02/09/2014 11:57

Samsung Tablet as before.
Switched to FF browser to make everything work but now the drop down menu won't appear on the LHS e.g. Talk Chat V (r v) and the v does nothing. That's where I was going to watch a thread right? and now I can't [cvonfused]

Hi there rurbane, really glad you've seen an improvement, We'll carry on testing Galaxy anyway because there do seem to be a few remaining niggles on that one Thanks

Noted about the tapping feedback, we'll have a think when we consider other design elements.
Thanks!

enriquetheringbearinglizard · 02/09/2014 11:58

Confused and can't type either apparently.

Hi there Suzannawithaplan I'm not sure that something that we can affect but we'll chat through with tech and see if anyone has any ideas thank you Flowers

Germgirl · 02/09/2014 11:59

YY to the above post ^ I'm getting ads between posts too, is this intentional? There can be quite a few on a long thread & it's disconcerting.

Hello Sleepwhenidie

We're trying out a new approach with ads this week so hopefully that will help. Please do pop over to this thread and let us know your thoughts.

We've had some ideas about the OP at the top of pages which we'll be trying in the near future.

We understand some actions are more effort, it's a tricky balance getting everything in while still maximising the space for posts. You should be able to click on the breadcrumbs and on the sub-topic title from within the topics page though.

Hello again, thank you for the update we're glad scrolling isn't something we've broken! Blush We're continuing to try to optimise speed as much as possible.

We're going to carry on looking at HTC as well as Samsung to try to improve matters for you Smile

It's not jsut you JenniMoo we're working on introducing some of those options, we're just trying to take it carefully to ensure it doesn't interfere with other changes. Smile

Hello all,

We're testing a new approach to adverts, please pop over to this thread to give your thoughts.

(This is copied from RebeccaMumsnet's opening post on that thread)

There’s been a bit of negative feedback about the fixed ad at the top of the site so we’d like to test a new approach this week - no fixed at at the top but a returning in-text ad (every 6 posts) as you scroll down the page (something we’ve seen on other sites like the Guardian)

Hopefully this will also be a preferable solution for those who’ve felt the pages are too uniform or too white. As ever, please let us know what you think.

We've also put together answers to your mobile related FAQs over here and we'll be added to that as new things get introduced.

Thanks
Lweji · 02/09/2014 12:59

I wonder if doing the same as with the adverts but with the shortcut bar would work and free up screen space as well.

I am getting the ads between posts, as intended, whereas before it was stuck to the top of the entire page and didn't move with it.
The shortcut bar is also stuck in place and doesn't move (see earlier post).

LineRunner · 02/09/2014 13:51

Thank you for getting rid of the ad that was stuck to the top if the page.

The ads are still annoying though because they are not static. The rapidly scrolling text is really irritating.

JessicaMumsnet · 02/09/2014 14:11

Hello Lweji, we're trying to get hold of a similar device to test your issue on. Thank you for your update Thanks
