Official Mumsnet mobile thread part 3

Morning all,

And welcome to the new thread!

As SarahMumsnet said at the end of the last thread, we have Tech on call for fixes this weekend, and various MNHQers will be here to talk and help wherever we can.

We'll be adding to the rolling list of bugs, glitches and dislikes (see below), so please keep the feedback coming. Do remember to list which device you're using, which operating system, and which browser, so we can identify the specific issues.

I'm sorry I have not read the rest of the thread since I last posted on here on Friday. I was pleased to see that the font was now more legible on my Nokia Lumia but I am afraid that I am still struggling with it. I had another migraine Saturday and then when I tried to post this morning (as I usually do with my morning coffee), I managed one short thread and post, then I was going to post on a thread I was following a while back, and I had to stop as I was feeling ill again.

I know you are trying a lot and putting a lot of time into making the mobile site work for me, but I am going to have to give up on it for now. I don't know what the problem is. It may just be me.

If it is any help, the chevron on my phone no longer works either, so I can't easily find the posts I was previously on any more, which doesn't help matters.

The above was posted on my laptop, so at least I can do that.

jessica I'm getting the lack of useful chevron on firefox too.

There is no ellipsis on every post. There is only 3 little dots which don't seem to do anything. I don't have the report and bookmark bit shown in your screenshot.

I dont think I have the little man bit either. I will go back to the top and check. Expect me back in about half an hour at current mn speed

Ok so there is a little man and I have turned the shortcut bar off.

So now I can see more than 2cm of screen, but I cannot get back to active convos or any other topic unless I tapp the back to top button about 20 times. FNot so bad if I'm actually posting something or on a short thread, but if I'm reading a long thread then I have no way to get there other than scrolling, which takes forever.

Re: annoying ads. Most of them don't bother me but this one is a right pain in the rear. Very flashy & intrusive. Apart from that, the site is looking good

Thanks Germgirl, we've going to be trying something different with ads this week which hopefully will be less intrusive.

I have noticed a new problem (on top of others) on my iPod 4.2.1 Safari

Firstly, and as back story, the blue shortcut bar is still not moving with the screen, but stuck in place and it covers part of the page when I scroll down. (see first picture)

Before, when I opened the down arrow the menu would push down the thread, and then I could actually read it, but now it doesn't. It just also sits on top of the thread (second picture).
And... the shortcut bar also covers part of the menu.

(the rest seems to be working fine, though. :) )

Hi Lweji, we're going to take a look again at iPods to see if we can replicate your shortcut buttons problem.

Am glad the rest seems to be working and we are still working on optimising speed along the way which should improve still further. Thanks for the update!

Hello there Romeyroo, sorry to hear you were feeling ill we're continuing to discuss design options which might help alleviate things for you.

This may have already been covered and I cba to RTFT (sorry!) but my two main improvement requests would be:

• Show the OP at the top of each page like on the usual site. It's annoying when you can't remember who the OP is or want to check something they said;
• Option to View All Messages. I tend to MN on the train home, which has quite patchy 3G coverage. I love finding a nice juicy bunfight long thought-provoking thread to read through the patches of No Service on the View All setting and I can't do this any more.

Other than these things it's generally pretty good.

I'm viewing in the latest Safari on iPhone 4.

Hello MewlingQuim, the three little dots should expand to a menu for you when you tap them. We'll double check that on Samsung Galaxy phone again to make sure. Within that menu are options to report, bookmark and jump to top or bottom.

Maybe you could just show the first 10 (or whatever) lines of the OP at the top of each page, with a link to the whole OP. I do see that having very long OPs at the top of subsequent pages clutters them up.

(this is from my laptop) I tried my Blackberry again today. It still doesn't work. The pages take ages to download and it doesn't recognise threads as a link.

Without wanting to sound too dramatic but it will I feel bloomin' lonely without MN on my phone. It used to keep me amused when the dc's were driving me up the wall.

Haven't RTFT (and I hate when people say that and post but I really can't read 8 pages before posting) but I've just noticed something that would be helpful but it might have already been mentioned.

There's no guide under the message box on how to post a link. Just went to post a link in a thread and completely forgot how to, and there was no handy guide underneath! So I had to switch to desktop version to do it.

A guide like the desktop site and the old mobile site would be handy or a button that instantly converts links.

Just noticed a bit of a bug. When I scroll all the way down and past the advert like the one I have attached (there's a couple adverts that look exactly like this but the subject is different, possibly same ad company?) I get stuck and can't scroll up again. The ad continues moving so nothing has frozen, it just seems to make the page stick at that position. Then eventually it lets me scroll up by using the very right hand side of my screen. Takes several attempts to scroll up before it lets me. Happens with all the ads from this company.

Using iPhone 4s, iOS7, Safari.

Someone mentioned the ad that takes over their entire screen? Just had it.. Didn't click anything, didn't even have my fingers touching the screen and it invaded

Pinkandblue, I'm so glad you had the same thing and thought to take a screenshot, I never thought to do that and was starting to doubt myself about whether id accidentally clicked on something. Pop ups and stuff aren't normally an issue on my iPhone.

Sorry you're been bereft and lonely, that's must feel rubbish We will try to make things better for Blackberry users generally. Speed is top priority but we'll investigate thread links too.

Hello there, we spent a good deal of time looking sternly at Samsung (S4) until it behaved last week but it seems that Samsung Galaxy 2 is a different kettle of fish so we'll try to make time for extra testing on that too. and

Thanks for the info on weirdy ad, we'll take a look. We're going to look into whether we can convert links for you so you don't need to but you raise a good point about the guide - we'll have a think about that too.

Hello, noted about the clicking underneath but in the meantime, try tapping the chevron (arrow) menu at the top of the page. You should see TIO there.

MsMarvel and PinkAndBlueBedtimeBears Thank you for the screenshot, very useful! Someone is trying to track that pesky ad down so the more information the better. If either of you could note what page you're on when it appears that would help enormously.
