Morning all,

And welcome to the new thread!
Grin

As SarahMumsnet said at the end of the last thread, we have Tech on call for fixes this weekend, and various MNHQers will be here to talk and help wherever we can.

We'll be adding to the rolling list of bugs, glitches and dislikes (see below), so please keep the feedback coming. Do remember to list which device you're using, which operating system, and which browser, so we can identify the specific issues.

Right then, who's first?

Hello iggi999 putting the OP at the top of every page is something we're going to chat about next week. We'll keep you posted and thank you for letting us know your thoughts!

Can I just say, having taken a bit of time to try it and being one of the ones on a well supported platform, i love the new site. I find it quick and easy to navigate and fast apart from the delay between clicking and loading. Luckily for me i don't suffer from the brightness/flashing so I'm not sure if that's been addressed?

springbabydays · 31/08/2014 20:16

The line spacing in your quotes seems more appropriate for all the text, does anyone else agree? Also please please introduce an off white background? It's so much easier reading your posts against the blue HQ, than any others.

TeenyfTroon · 31/08/2014 20:51

I too prefer the line spacing in your quotations. Though I have wondered why the last line of each quote has a larger space - is it the quotation marks which force this? Maybe you could try somewhere between the two?
The disclaimer/explanation text at the beginning of threads (eg Chat) has the same line spacing as ordinary posts (I think!) and this seems particularly unnecessary.
Btw, my magnifying glass is less wayward tonight, but the bottom blue bar has taken to wandering as I scroll down! (iPhone 3GS, Safari, iOS 6)

Can I report the chromecast advert for randomly covering the whole screen and forcing me to wait for it to load, to then click on the x in the corner in order to get back to mumsnet? Happened a few times now and is very very annoying

I've checked on the desktop site, it says bookmarks are switched on, but that it only applies to 'Mumsnet New' style. Sorry if I am being a total dunce here, but could you just confirm I am in fact supposed to do this in 'Customise'? Or is there anothere thing I'm supposed to change as well? natural luddite
Hello LegoCaltrops, No that's all you need to do. To save a bookmark on a thread tap the ellipsis menu found on every post and bookmark is one of the top options.

  • Sorry but it's still not working! See screenshot.

I forgot to mention, also, my blue bar at the bottom keeps randomly disappearing part way through a thread. Ive definitely got it switched on, I rather like it actually when it works so I've not turned it off & forgotten! It usually reappears when I go into a new thread. Strange!

AllOutOfNaiceHam · 31/08/2014 22:11

I quite like the slight formatting changes. I also don't seem to have the annoying add (or white bar when adblock is active) at the top at the moment, which makes viewing the page on my LG g3 on 4.4.2 quite pleasant actually (as long as my brightness is turned right down).
I do have some performance issues though.
When clicking on an attached picture, the screen goes dark and freezes like in my screenshot. It eventually unfreeze after a couple of minutes and I can close the botched image view.
When trying to reply to a post after attaching a picture the whole thread reloaded and I had to scroll all the way back down.
Typing is still very blocky and stops a lot.
Loading times are slow but you've mentioned that a few times.

My issue with the adverts is that my eyes automatically want to stay on the ad while I'm scrolling and I tend to read threads and scroll at the same time, so I end up staring at the ad with one eye while trying to read the thread with the other and that makes the headache triggered by the glaring white background worse. Please could we have an option to change all background colours? I really like how it reads on your blue posts.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 31/08/2014 23:11

Ooh, so I can, though it's still pretty slow.

Wonderful! Very pleased to hear that and thank you for letting us know. The brightness has been addressed for most but we're still tweaking and considering options to improve still further.

Thanks springbabydays more closely spaced text and an option for a an off-white background has been mentioned and is something we'll be thinking about this week. Thanks

Hi there TreenyfTroon, noted and disclaimer size is on our agenda for design chat.

Glad to hear it about magnifying glass, though hmm about bottom buttons - that doesn't sound right! We'll take another look for you.

Thanks!

Hi MsMarvel, thanks for flagging we've passed that info onto right people and hopefully they'll sort.

Thank you

Hey there LegoCaltrops, that screenshot is really useful thanks loads for taking it. We'll take another look at Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 in general and bookmarks and bottom buttons in particular.

Many thanks!

MsMarvel can you recall where you saw this advert appear? It sounds like a popup and that shouldn't be happening at all. Thank you

Hi AllOutOfNaiceHam thank you that's good to know and we'll do some playing with LG G3. Your thoughts on ads and background colours have been noted and we'll definitely include in our design discussions this week.
Thanks

V glad it's working LadyIsabellaWrotham Grin we're continuing to look at improving speed.

Hello, hopefully nickelbabe's post to try on firefox has helped a bit but we'll be looking more closely at Samsung Galaxy ace 2 too.
Thank you for letting us know Smile

JessicaMumsnet · 01/09/2014 09:53

UPDATE

This week we'll be testing new advert placement, continuing to improve speed of loading, considering various design feedbacks including OP showing at top, show all messages, background colours and more, and continuing to test on other devices.

We'll probably start separate threads on bits of the above to gather your thoughts as this one is getting full and a bit unwieldy.

Thank you ALL for posting your feedback and experiences it is incredibly useful and we couldn't improve without you.

Many thanks
Thanks

Re: annoying ads. Most of them don't bother me but this one is a right pain in the rear. Very flashy & intrusive.
Apart from that, the site is looking good Smile

I have noticed a new problem (on top of others) on my
iPod 4.2.1
Safari

Firstly, and as back story, the blue shortcut bar is still not moving with the screen, but stuck in place and it covers part of the page when I scroll down. (see first picture)

Before, when I opened the down arrow the menu would push down the thread, and then I could actually read it, but now it doesn't. It just also sits on top of the thread (second picture).
And... the shortcut bar also covers part of the menu.

(the rest seems to be working fine, though. :) )
