Morning all,

And welcome to the new thread!
Grin

As SarahMumsnet said at the end of the last thread, we have Tech on call for fixes this weekend, and various MNHQers will be here to talk and help wherever we can.

We'll be adding to the rolling list of bugs, glitches and dislikes (see below), so please keep the feedback coming. Do remember to list which device you're using, which operating system, and which browser, so we can identify the specific issues.

Right then, who's first?

Owh, my phone (iPhone 5c, safari, ios7) has just chucked me into 'view all posts' in a thread.. I didn't ask it to!

Also when I'm reading a thread it jumps me to the top after a while, but only when I'm scrolling slowly and reading at the and time, it doesn't do it if I do a big scroll then take my thumb off to read..

elQuintoConyo · 25/08/2014 07:50

We can get rid of the blue bar? How? I really need to know this.

What else can i do to help prevent tjis new site driving me up the wall? It is still.too bright for me

HTC one, Android, browser is possibly Sense 5 but not 100% certain!

Am finding the mobile site most painful to use:

  • when typing this reply, in landscape as it's so much easier to type, only a tiny space is visible, so I can't read what I'm typing, so have now reverted to portrait and am typing with one finger, not going to want to post very often now!
  • please put the first ,last, go to page and show all pages/messages at the top as using the customise option to show differing numbers of pages means that this applies across all threads when I don't always want it too and having to customize each thread is a no no for me as no option at top of each thread anymore
  • sometimes the page freezes so nothing works so have to use the back option in my browser instead
  • everytime I log back in the blue bar across the bottom reappears so I have to customize every time so I can easily read and scroll through threads
  • the options via the three dots is very slow to load so when waiting to see if the bookmark option had worked I accidentally clicked through to Google
  • If I stop typing this reply for a few seconds I get taken to a random place in the text box and have to faff around to get back to where I was typing before
  • pages jumping around all over the place if stop scrolling for a second or move the phone so get taken back to the top of thread and then bookmark doesn't kick in so have lots of scrolling to do

This was one of the most painful replies I've posted, having to use portrait mode is tortuous. Can't remember if posting in old mobile site was this bad or not.

Kindle Fire.

The ad at the top is still scrolling away, driving me nuts and causing a headache that makes the mobile site still impossible to use.

Also when I go into the TIO page, when I touch the thread title nothing happens. I have to touch a post instead, and go to that post, and them scroll all the way back to find my bookmark. Boring, laborious and crap.

sunbathe · 25/08/2014 09:24

I've spent longer on MN the last couple of days and I seem to have s permanent headache.

Overall, the glare seems to be less, so I'm wondering whether this skinny font is causing me problems?

Would it be possible to try the old font with the new everything else? Or a range of other fonts? When you start to look at accessibility issues, I mean.

Making more of a division between posts and darkening user names and dates would be good too.

I don't like all the extra clicks you have to do to get anywhere. Makes MNing much more clunky and slow when you only have a few minutes.

On the positive side, I can now edit my posts easily, without the cursor jumping anywhere it wanted. Flowers

ElephantsNeverForgive · 25/08/2014 10:10

If you log in on "g+" because you want to comment on the thread you are reading, you get bounced to the home page. Very annoying.

Munchmallow · 25/08/2014 10:11

I've changed browser to firefox and I can now see the icons!

And I can post! Grin

Scarletohello · 25/08/2014 10:52

Back again from desktop and basically A THIRD of the screen is covered with ads, bars etc. little room to read, constant scrolling. NOT GOOD FOR RSI!

So pissed off
AND WE STILL HAVENT HAD AN ACCEPTABLE ANSWER ABOUT WHY MN CHANGED IT TO THIS PILE OF SHITE..!

Or did I miss it?

I. Can't. Sodding. Post. At. All.

This bug doesn't appear on your list that I can see. Can you please put it in in bold, because it's really quite a big one. And I'm guessing that for every apple victim who has posted to complain, there's another ten who haven't posted to complain that they can't post because They. Can't. Sodding. Post.
Quite unusually cross about this one because DH is taking the oppoortunity to remind me how much he hates Apple which has wound me up.

Scarletohello · 25/08/2014 10:53

Also there's an ad at the top for pregnant yoga in Balham? Why? I'm not pregnant and I don't live in Balham!

supermodel · 25/08/2014 11:08

Sorry probably been mentioned and may be being dim but how do I add a thread to watch list now?

LineRunner · 25/08/2014 11:09

I am being offered ante natal classes in Leeds, scroll-y style.

I am not pregnant. Indeed I am 52. And I do not live in Yorkshire. And I want the ad to Stop Fucking Moving.

LineRunner · 25/08/2014 11:10

Now I am being offered wedding and honeymoon treats.

I am also getting the issue of a misbehaving text box. The cursor jumps - it sometimes deletes from the line above where it claims to be despite typing where it claims to be. The text box appeas to be operating on a layer above thde page itself and applying spellcheck or something. Why isn't it a straight text box? I assume it is a way of applying conversion rules for emoticons and hyperlinks. I had this issue with Old Mobile Site; for the first 24h or so of New Mobile it was fine; now the fault is back.

It is definitely a MN fault rather than my phone, as I get it on no other site or app.

On another note, Im grateful that the namechange thing is being looked at because in the meantime I am locked out of my quiche. I

If this isn't built yet, any chance it could be a dropdown of previously-claimed nns rather than a text box where we have to type it exactly right? [moon on a stick emoticon] [winning smile] Gin [pizza]

TeenyfTroon · 25/08/2014 13:13

Loads of MNers are pointing out specific problems and I am very grateful to them. It's not easy to identify a problem and then describe it accurately.
But springbabydays has expressed my biggest worry. I was on the same thread she mentions and I felt that MN was that poor woman's only support at an incredibly difficult time. And there will be others who have had their lifeline disrupted.
I just don't get why you couldn't have introduced the new/altered features a few at a time. Some are great, and just need getting usd to (though we may not all agree as to which they are!) while the 'look and feel' of the site are more tricky.
Migraine sufferers, dyslexics, and people who just don't find glare etc easy to cope with- surely this should have come out in testing?
I appreciate that you are now doing your best to respond, btw!

The blue bar at the bottom is "squashed" to the left of the screen.

Blackberry 9720, BB 7.1 OS (I think), default browser

What are you going to do about the "letterbox" effect on blackberry users? The bars top and bottom actually take up half the screen. Look at it!!!!!

It's making the site v difficult to use as I have to scroll up and down constantly. It's actually nauseating :(

And I note the comment you need the ads (which I understand) but it's frequently your OWN ad that's up there. So I'm on MN looking at an... MN ad?????!

Plus the blue bar at the bottom takes aaaaaggess to load. Abandoned the effort this morning to look at this thread on the bus. Am on my work pc now doing it.

Kindle Fire.

Agree with wiltingfast, it's madness to have valuable screen space filled with an ad for MN, when we are already on MN.

meglet · 25/08/2014 14:44

My Blackberry has changed to the desktop site and it works and billion times better than the new mobile site Hmm. Not as whizzy as the old mobile site but anything is better than the current one. The links work on the desktop site.

And what wilting said about the tiddly little screen space on Blackberry screens. On the new mobile site we get 5 lines of readable MN text. I used to get 3 x that amount.

MsMarvel · 25/08/2014 15:28

I have discovered a new(?) issue, where if I try as click on the blue bar at the bottom when an ad is under it, it takes me to whatever the ad is rather than the button I definitely clicked on.

I'm hoping the speed in which things are being dealt with will drastically increase tomorrow after the bank holiday.

violetwellies · 25/08/2014 16:49

I have bought a pair of glasses today, so no longer need to make the text larger. Perhaps some opticians would like to take advantage of your -feckin- adds.
