Hi all,

As you know we have launched the new mobile site, we know it's a big change and we are still very keen to get it right with your help. This is very much a version that will evolve with your help as part of the testing process.

There have been a few glitches that have/are being ironed out and the HUGE thread has nearly maxed out, so we thought it best to start a shiny new one.

We know change is tricky but, as with most things MN, we are all ears and happy to look at any feedback you have on ways we can improve the new site.

Thanks all Thanks

@nickelbabe

I currently have a text only advert tat keeps changing text every couple of seconds.

you have to have a rule that all adverts on the static bar do not have any movement in them

Yup, that's our thinking too. These are ads that are served up by an external service so we need to set some parameters around what we'll accept - may take a while to action this but we're on it.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/08/2014 15:12

But as far as I remember MN has always had these ads on the mobile site, a banner one at the top, and a big one at the very bottom of the page. The only difference now is the ad at the top now floats at the top of the screen. And it has always had the social media buttons.

So I don't see how the new version would be calling any more from other sites than the old version.

I think the battery usage thing is either imagination, or due to the increased amount of white.

ancientbuchanan · 22/08/2014 15:21

Rowan, thanks.

Various points. HTC 28 months old, I think. Do mobiles have equivalents to dog years?

If I press TIO, it takes me sometimes to the normal TIO, with all the TsIO, sometimes to the individual thread that has been most recently updated. Bizarre.

Like Mardy I want a specific elipse with TIO and one with Active. ( as we used to have). I don't want to have to go into the currently empty middle elipse, scroll down and find TIO. Ditto for active. So I'd really like you to magic that for me, or else give me easy instructions to customize my screen for me to do it for myself. And wave farewell to the blue bar.

Is that making sense?

doesn't being always on-screen mean that it's always live & doing something, where it wasn't before?

nickelbabe · 22/08/2014 15:33

I've been exploring Grin

I looooooove the customize. thank you

I loooooooove that you've returned last few posts to tio (except the fact that when I clicked said last post on this thread, it took me to a post that was from 11 o'clock isg.
I know that's not a bookmark because I don't use bookmarks (so am very grateful that the facility is now hidden in the ellipses so I don't click on it by accident)

Rowan, perhaps for the sake of your users' eyes, heads and blood pressure mght it not be an idea to take the new mobile site off line to fix all the glitches and design faults and reinstate the old mobile site whilst you are doing this.

Clearly, you are determined that we will be having the new site, but the above option may allow users to suggest more functions that need tweaking prior to it becoming permanent.

nickelbabe · 22/08/2014 15:36

nicest on mine it doesn't float - it's permanently above the thread, pegged to the toolbar.

DomesticSlobbess · 22/08/2014 15:40

Agh, just lost my reply by clicking on a photo I was uploading. Took me back to the top of the screen and deleted everything I had typed and uploaded.

I'm on iPhone 4S, iOS7, Safari. If I click to view a picture it takes forever to load and freezes Safari so I can't get out of it when I lose patience waiting then when it finally appears in the floaty box it is barely any bigger than the thumbnail. But when I zoom, the floaty box disappears to the right hand corner of the screen and keeps moving as I follow it.

Ooooo, I have recent posts back and my threads actually go into hiding when I want them too :) Much more tolerable. Still the background/fonting annoyance though.

MHHQ; not sure if it's just my phone (Samsung S3 Mini, latest antroid & chrome) but when I'm viewing TIO and seeing the recent post, punctuation such as; apostrophes are showing as "a""

'float' was a quote from ItsAllGoingToBeFine, nickelbabe - you're right, it is tethered. but it is onscreen all the time, which means that if it's one of the switchy ones like Peugeot, it must be using some battery?

Hi there,

Thanks for flagging this. We're aware there are a few picture problems and we've got tech on the case.

Lweji · 22/08/2014 16:08

On a positive, it seems to be working a lot better on my iPod Touch. And great to have last few posts on TIO.
There's still a bit of navigation to get used to, but I think it will be ok.

But haven't tried long threads...
And the blue thingy is still stuck and over the posts.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/08/2014 16:09

Thanks for the TIO change but now I can only access a TIO through pressing a recent post, so I can't press the title and go to my bookmark (having only just yesterday enabled bookmarks). On old mobile site from TIO you could either go to a topic, go to a thread, or go to a recent post.

I have this issue too...

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/08/2014 16:14

Also, if I access a thread via TIO I it loads the entire thread rather than paginating it. I don't have this issue accessing threads via Active

PseudoBadger · 22/08/2014 16:18

Can I post?

PseudoBadger · 22/08/2014 16:18

Apparently

MsMarvel · 22/08/2014 16:25

Thank you for adding the sticky markers on the chat threads! Thanks

It's shaping up really nicely, and I'm getting used to the new format and starting to like it. Really appreciate the hard work that must be going into dealing with flagged issues so quickly.

MultipleMama · 22/08/2014 16:25

I know it's been asked a thousand times but does anyone know how I can bookmark? Thank you, in advance! xx

Because I can't find it...

You can turn the blue (shortcuts) bar off via Customise Lewji - do you know how to get there?

Sherborne · 22/08/2014 16:36

@MultipleMama

Thanks to Pipbin, I know this now...

Switch to desktop mode
Click "Customize" on a thread
Set: Display bookmark links: Yes
Hit Save
Switch back to mobile Smile

Hit the ellipses/three dots at the bottom of the post.

ScarlettDarling · 22/08/2014 16:44

Still no customise button.
Still no ellipsis.
(Samsung galaxy ace)

Lweji · 22/08/2014 16:44

I'm not sure I want to get rid of the shortcuts, though. :) They are handy. And if I click on the down arrow the thread goes down and I can read it.

I found customise somewhere, but it got stuck meanwhile.

It still doesn't seem to like long threads, so I may need to start paginating. :(
But I'm on a dodgy free Wi-Fi service atm, on holiday. I'll report back when I'm at home on proper Wi-Fi.

(I hope you have included a link to mobile on the desktop site, btw - at least one that I can find)
