Hands up everyone who wants to try out the BRAND NEW MUMSNET MOBILE SITE

RowanMumsnet · 20/08/2014 14:42

Hello comrades

As lots of you will know, we've been developing a brand new, souped up version of the Mumsnet mobile site for seven geological eras quite a long time now.

We can now exclusively reveal that the new mobile site is... TOTALLY AND UTTERLY ABOUT TO BE RELEASED, LIKE, ANY TIME NOW.

We've tested it on loads of MNers (Flowers to those who have helped out) but inevitably there will be glitches that only reveal themselves once tens of thousands of you dive in and start using it - so please use this thread to let us know about those (with the usual info about browsers and devices).

And if you like it, please pass along Cake and Wine to ShamTech, BrunoTech, JessicaMumsnet and all the other techs and MHQers who have been working their digits off on this.

The new improved apps are coming, honest... but in the meantime, if the old apps are driving you bonkers, do please take the new mobile site for a test drive.

Any response to the dyslexia question? I would have thought mnet of all sites would want to be inclusive

MrsVamos · 21/08/2014 13:53

Mnetters, I have been the biggest whiner over this, please check the mobile site again, it does seem to be slowly improving.

I don't want anyone to leave, I want it to work for all !

MrsVamos · 21/08/2014 13:54

LEM

I knew that re dyslexia.But. What would you say would be the best colour for viewing ?

Perhaps if you suggest a couple to HQ and Tech they will take note ? Smile

MrsV I think it's definitely better than it was, not as glarey!

I'd still really appreciate thicker horizontal lines to separate posts though

Tech - Wine it's 5 o'clock somewhere

crispandfruity · 21/08/2014 13:56

Rebecca mumsnet, can you tell tech to ignore google thingies and just to do what we tell them to Wink

mipmop · 21/08/2014 13:57

There's no excuse for choosing colors and contrast levels that are painful for users. This stuff is all well-understood, the info is out there for any web designer or decision maker to find. You don't have to make an appointment with RNIB to travel to their office and ask them in person how to design a web site.

crispandfruity · 21/08/2014 13:57

Also, I think I am not alone in demanding to know "Which feckers beta tested this" We want names damn you!!

MrsVamos · 21/08/2014 13:58

Zebra

Nowhere near as glary, it was horrible, wasn't it !

I think even if the lines were different colours to differentiate threads/posts, that might help. Thicker lines and posters names like desktop would be fab.

It's too blue.

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 21/08/2014 14:01

RebeccaMN - Is there now an option to see the posts on 'threads im on' instead of just the title? I use this to navigate to the most recent post but now have to scroll through the whole thread to get to the end! Is this a glitch or is it supposed to be like this?

The stupid floating toolbar is still in the way of people's posts as well. If I want to turn it off I have to do every time the page loads!

REALLY not enjoying MN through my mobile now Sad

LEMmingaround · 21/08/2014 14:01

Mrs Vamos - i think it can depend, not all dyslexics benefit from coloured backgrounds and some people with Erlans syndrome need coloured backgrounds or they get visual stress, the words seem to move around etc, a bright white background is the worst for this. People actually have different colour preferences (not sure preferences is the right word) however i found some dyslexia friendly books for my dd (who has yet to be tested for erlans) and they had a creamy yellow background - it has made a huge difference to her reading and confidence.

MrsVamos · 21/08/2014 14:01

mipmop

I agree.

But I don't think now anyone is going to admit that this was a monumental fuck up !

I could say more but I'd need a emoticon. Grin

MrsVamos · 21/08/2014 14:05

LEM

I do remember reading lots about this. I think you're right, preference sounds correct.

Some people might like a green, some a yellow, I get that.

My heart just broke reading about the poster I mentioned earlier who said it made her feel crap.

If MN and Tech can help, then they should. I would have thought it's a basic, isn't it ?

ElBandito · 21/08/2014 14:06

How do you unwatch a thread?

avocadoaddict · 21/08/2014 14:09

Yes, still very slow. My dh is a self-confessed broadband speed geek and even with our superfast connection it is painful.

MrsVamos · 21/08/2014 14:09

Agree with other posters asking for a couple of lines of the last poster on TIO or watching.

Its no good telling me how many posts there are, I need to see if there have been any replies !

MultipleMama · 21/08/2014 14:22

Thank you for adding the "hide thread" option however it isn't working. I press hide thread, it "loads" but doesn't tell me it's hid, I go back on my TIO and the thread I had pressed to hide is still there.

Anyone else with this problem?

MrsVamos · 21/08/2014 14:24

ElBandito

Can you go onto thread and choose to unwatch ?

Can't see another way, and it's taking ages to load again. My mobile is nearly dead so have had to log out and charge it !

SoonToBeSix · 21/08/2014 15:25

How do you get rid of blue bar at bottom and advert on top? Hardly any screen is left for posts please fix this. Also can we have thicker lines separating posts thanks. Also in watching threads can it be like it used to be so we can see who has posted last and click straight to the end.

SoonToBeSix · 21/08/2014 15:27

Oh I forgot the white is slightly better now it has dimmed a bit but it's still not good. There is too much of it and hate the font. Could we have a yellowy background like a kindle.

GiantGraspingCeramicFist · 21/08/2014 15:33

The glare is much reduced, thank you Smile Also thanks for the nav buttons at the top.

Fix TIO, reinstate quick navigation from thread to page and fix the ad at the top or give an option to get rid of it, and I will be happy.

NoisyOyster · 21/08/2014 15:34

New thread everyone

new mobile site thread #2

hq could have linked this themselves maybe? Hmm

NoisyOyster · 21/08/2014 15:35

Sorry Rebecca, just seen you have. X-posted due to the slow loading site! Grin

I take back my Hmm

LadderToTheMoon · 21/08/2014 16:04

I keep trying to load a long thread in Chat. It keeps crashing my phone (Samsung S3 mini). I'm getting a message saying "Page has become unresponsive"

My settings should be to show 1000 posts, but earlier (before my phone kept crashing) it was only loading individual pages. My settings were also to read old (at the top) to new, but it seemed to have automatically changed this. I don't know where I am.
