Hands up everyone who wants to try out the BRAND NEW MUMSNET MOBILE SITE

Hello comrades

As lots of you will know, we've been developing a brand new, souped up version of the Mumsnet mobile site for seven geological eras quite a long time now.

We can now exclusively reveal that the new mobile site is... TOTALLY AND UTTERLY ABOUT TO BE RELEASED, LIKE, ANY TIME NOW.

We've tested it on loads of MNers ( to those who have helped out) but inevitably there will be glitches that only reveal themselves once tens of thousands of you dive in and start using it - so please use this thread to let us know about those (with the usual info about browsers and devices).

And if you like it, please pass along and to ShamTech, BrunoTech, JessicaMumsnet and all the other techs and MHQers who have been working their digits off on this.

The new improved apps are coming, honest... but in the meantime, if the old apps are driving you bonkers, do please take the new mobile site for a test drive.

Have finally remember how to change the maximum posts per page to 1000 which was what it was (Im on my computer) but I dont understand how an update to the mobile site could have changed this. Bookmark seems to be working now fingers crossed

I don't suspect they're ignoring... they're probably all in a meeting room now thrashing out what to do... (and probably need and ).

Pah. It just chucked me right of the internet.

So, I've changed my mind, it took more than 30 mins to finish refreshing from me posting to getting back to the end of the thread.

With said toddler and baby, I liked being able to nip in and out and check the latest on threads I'm on. Can't do either now, it's completely lost it's 'live' feel, it's so slow that the thread had moved on before I've even caught up.
Still live the shortcut smilies though

Aesthetically it just looks unfinished. The headings, the post breaks, the tiny ellipses, the arrow in the circle at the top. And that's before considering the glare, font, advert and tool bar.

How many people beta tested it and what was their feedback and what devices were they using?

Sorry MNHQ, another person here who thinks the new mobile site is terrible and definitely not user friendly. Personally I would love to have the old layout back. As someone who primarily used MN on the mobile rather than PC, I will unfortunately have to stop using MN if the new layout stays (the lack of usability is forcing me to do this which is a shame as MN is a great site in itself).

I certainly don't think I'll use the mobile site now. It's interesting that people have said they'd pay for improved functionality.

Perhaps that's MNHQ's next planned move - subscription to a paid functional mobile site.

The new mobile site is very bad. Don't have much access to a computer as I'm out and about a lot. Any chance of giving users the option of the original mobile site?

Can't see a way to view all messages in a thread rather than click next all the time? Is this gone?

Why has the 'flip' function gone? And the next, previous, first and last buttons from the top of the thread? Now (as far as I can tell) if you come back to a long thread, the only way of getting to the end is to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the first page, then you get to 'last' at the bottom.

Well the bookmark but was working but had now disappeared and the 3 dots has moved from the right side of screen to left!

Aha, that's just changed! But now I'm not getting the option to bookmark messages, which was definitely there yesterday...

I don't mind it too much, but on my HTC one and my Tesco Hudl (both using Google chrome), only the initial OP post is highlighted, and not any others, even when I customise. That alone makes it much less enjoyable to use.

I also agree it looks a bit unfinished - the boxes with ellipses in look wrong somehow.

Just wondering whether there has been a definitive answer on sorting out the 'highlight OP posts' function -- NOT just the first post, but every post by the thread originator.

And yy to the 'top' button needing returning ASAP.

I cannot believe the ignorant 'you just need to get used to it' remark from some at MNHQ, in response to some very valid complaints that are not just pertaining to the look or 'feel' but about basic functionality. How utterly puerile and what a way to alienate your user base. Sort it out.

Unless I buy a laptop I am doomed with this horrific layout. My phone and tablet are using this naff new layout and it is pants to say the least. I may have a break from MN for a while. Wish people wouldn't try to fix things that aren't broke. and I have to convert links myself again, ffs, I don't have time to do things for myself [huff]

Now for all op posts being highlighted - and forgot to say - in a colour of my choice, please, not pale grey that can barely be spotted scrolling through.

I have epilepsy too, and the new site triggered a partial seizure this morning.

I think it's because you have to scroll so much you're basically creating a strobe-effect. There's no blocks of colour to break it up, everything's the same size.

"I can only think that the MNHQ team only tend to use the desktop site and so aren't accustomed to using only or mostly the mobile site, and so don't notice the changes in the user experience, or think they're not important because the mobile site is just a lesser version of the desktop format. On the plus side, that's my MN addiction instantly cured. I won't be coming on anymore or very rarely at least.

A 'classic mobile' option would solve it.

Also, I like to see all messages as sometimes my mobile signal goes down and it makes it easier to load all so I can scroll away to hearts content. Where has that option gone?!!?

No Tech to explain glitches and how to use, no HQ to apologise for the mess and help.

Right. The back of my eyeballs now hurt after trying to read back on this thread.

I also am suffering from headaches as a result of the mobile site. Agree that it's the scrolling with no break that's the trouble. I'm the sort that wears sunglasses all the time due to the glare and the new site makes me want to put them on.

I was trying to be positive about it last night but I'm another one for whom the OP highlighting didn't work and I'm afraid I don't like it. I won't be using it. The desktop site is too much of a faff to use on my phone.
