Hello comrades

As lots of you will know, we've been developing a brand new, souped up version of the Mumsnet mobile site for seven geological eras quite a long time now.

We can now exclusively reveal that the new mobile site is... TOTALLY AND UTTERLY ABOUT TO BE RELEASED, LIKE, ANY TIME NOW.

We've tested it on loads of MNers ( to those who have helped out) but inevitably there will be glitches that only reveal themselves once tens of thousands of you dive in and start using it - so please use this thread to let us know about those (with the usual info about browsers and devices).

And if you like it, please pass along and to ShamTech, BrunoTech, JessicaMumsnet and all the other techs and MHQers who have been working their digits off on this.

The new improved apps are coming, honest... but in the meantime, if the old apps are driving you bonkers, do please take the new mobile site for a test drive.

And is it possible to hide the blue bar? When it's up it just hides too much screen and it is like reading through a letter box...

Yep lots of ironing out going on, tech must be knackered!

First last buttons back, ellipses are bigger, bookmark is working.

You can get the view all by customising - tiny down arrow in the circle under mumsnet banner, customise is in there, set it to view 1000 posts. It was really slow so I'm back on pages, but with everything else changing I might give it a shot in a bit.

Just please do something about the all white. It is doing my head in

The font is slightly better now.

Still really miss the old site.

Just looked at mobile site.

Op posts seem to be highlighted. Don't like colour but is breaking up the white much better.

My posts highlight colour is naff. I like choice. Picky mare, me.

Bookmarking is working much better.

We need now :

Better differential between posts. Maybe a thicker line, and could we please have posters names like they are on desktop, or similar ?

Active needs to be broken up colour wise.

Tech must be working their socks off again. As they should.

PS Old site was still better.

Am I right in thinking that they dulled the background as well MrsV? It looks much less glary!

Tech have just released some changes including...

When images are clicked, they now appear in a box making them larger on the screen

Pagination works so that you can navigate through the pages of a thread/threads in a topic

Bookmarking has been made more apparent on a message and you are taken to the message in the thread that you bookmarked

OP highlighting now appears on every post by OP, not just the first

All highlighting is now working as per your settings

Talk names now appear when creating a conversation and when posting in a thread

Hide/watch and flip a thread have been added to the sub nav menu (this can only be accessed when logged in)

A new thread can be started from within a thread from the sub nav menu

Please do keep posting to let us know what you think, we are looking at all of you comments.

The way the posts were laid out on the old site was spot on, you should bring that back.

Just give us the access codes MNHQ. We'll design the perfect new mobile site for you.

I just read a thread on my mobile and all the OP's posts were highlighted rather than just the first, so maybe that's fixed.
Hate the pale colours though, I'm used to OP in purple and mine in dark green, I don't want pale grey!

Can we have the pagination buttons at the top too? so i don't have to scroll down to the bottom of the page, my samsung 4 is a bit big to keep having to do this one handed (i can multi-task, what can i say!) Thankyou muchly x

Yep, it has dulled a bit, thank goodness.

I think Tech probably understood matt finish as opposed to gloss/shiny.

For me it is the breaking up of the white that is so much better. If we could break up Active more, and have posts with a thicker line between, and posters names, even if in a different colour and font, would be better.

So.

When is someone going to apologise for releasing it too early, and fecking up ?!

The headings at the top of the page eg >topic >talk looks rubbish, like something from a school project.

Also the boxes around first/next/last look a bit amateurish.

Petty I know, but it makes it all look unfinished and adds to the general not goodness of the mobile site experience.

Finally, the top advert - it needs to be fixed not floating and if there MUST be a bottom tool bar it needs to be a darker blue.

Apologies if this has been mentioned, but when you refresh a thread to view the latest posts (I like reading oldest to newest going down) you get transported to the top of the thread. It then takes FOREVER to get down to the bottom again, at which point you have to remember where you read up to. The old version used to refresh the page and put you where you left off IYSWIM.

I used to charge my phone every other night (overnight). This morning my phone had 100% but due to all the bloody loading and scrolling it now has 35% - and I've only been on the site a small fraction of the time that I usually am as it's such a pain to use!

Actually i have just thought of something - this is important!!!

You need to lose the white background - or make it optional. Dyslexics will find it harder to read with such a white background. My DD prefers a cream background - just saying, like! But for the rest of us, it is VERY white and not good. Last night i had a splitting headache which had nothing to do with the 2p machines in the arcade oh no no no

RebeccaMN, the one question you didn't answer, and the main, mist important one, is:
Will the old be available to those that want it?

Yep, agree, you need to lose the white background for active convos, and for when you go into a topic, to select a thread to read.

Would much prefer to have the same colours I have on desktop to differentiate me and op, on mobile are too pale. Maybe that is asking too much ?!

Even if the colours were just differing shades of 1, I think it would be better than white.

Oh, and the epilpses don't work (if you press them then nothing happens) until the whole page has finished loading - which isn't quick.

Oh to be a coder, Tech are clicking away and we are feeding back all of your comments to them.

Can you let us know if you experience speed issues as we have also put in a fix to improve loading which is working well at the moment.

One of the reasons for the change in mobile was to stop fat fingers and improve usability.

On most of the new mobile talk pages, google is now showing a score of 100/100 for mobile usability.

Which we're reliably told is to do with best practice on 'Tap targets' and 'legible fonts' and 'size content to viewport'

Just tried the desktop site. Impossible to use on the phone or my tablet.

Agree the glare has lessened but can we do away with the advert at the top. Like someone has said it is like reading through a letter box.

And where is the option to view all messages? I am sick of pressing next or previous

At the risk of scaremongering, what if PigletJohn turns out to be a mobile user, and leaves over this? At the moment I can't use the site for entertainment (because it's been ruined), but I spend a lot of time on Property/DIY. If PJ leaves then there's nothing left for me.

Loading still slow. I daren't opt for 1000 posts - yet !

Currently on 100 but it's getting better.

I am prepared to be patient.
