Hands up everyone who wants to try out the BRAND NEW MUMSNET MOBILE SITE

Hello comrades

As lots of you will know, we've been developing a brand new, souped up version of the Mumsnet mobile site for seven geological eras quite a long time now.

We can now exclusively reveal that the new mobile site is... TOTALLY AND UTTERLY ABOUT TO BE RELEASED, LIKE, ANY TIME NOW.

We've tested it on loads of MNers ( to those who have helped out) but inevitably there will be glitches that only reveal themselves once tens of thousands of you dive in and start using it - so please use this thread to let us know about those (with the usual info about browsers and devices).

And if you like it, please pass along and to ShamTech, BrunoTech, JessicaMumsnet and all the other techs and MHQers who have been working their digits off on this.

The new improved apps are coming, honest... but in the meantime, if the old apps are driving you bonkers, do please take the new mobile site for a test drive.

Though I haven't turned my iPad off for ages and maybe it's that?

if you've always used the desktop site on PC, ipad etc it won't have changed

it's the mobile site that's different

I don't mind the layout, I'm on a Samsung S3 and the banner AD and blue toolbar don't take up too much room.

I am hopeful that it will be faster-loading over slow networks, compared to old version.

Obviously we need post highlighting sorting out, I assume it's just a glitch.

Threads I'm On is the worst of it though, really bad not being able to see recent posts . Plus I have a deleted thread on my list and the MN explanation for the deletion is no longer findable.

It is VERY white too, quite glarey, but I don't know if I'm finding it so because of everyone else mentioning it and subconsciously influencing me.

can someone link the fucking how to customize again please?

in my search for it, I've managed to go to ocado, log in with Google, be logged out and click nunerous bits of shit.

I know I used to moan that my page loaded too slowly before but this is just fucking annoying.

The glare makes my eyes hurt . Please tone down the white.

Right this bookmarking and it going back to the top is now seriously doing my head in, what's the point??

Chicly and Harold - It's only the mobile site that's changed - if you use the desktop site on your iPad, like I do, you won't see any change.

Nickel babe it doesn't matter as the customise isn't working properly anyway as I've clicked highlight OPs posts but it only highlights the first one ! It's up the top under the wee arrow

What the app? I use the app too. Everything looks the same to me!

Nickelbabe - to find Customise, look at the bar just above the OP, where it says >Talk>Site Stuff - on the right hand side of that bar is a downward pointing arrow in a circle. Touch that and you get a dropdown menu and Customise is the last item on that menu

I don't like it at all and I can't get the new buttons to work for me (Windows IE on a Nokia Lumia). I've changed to Desktop on my phone and that sucks too as the text is so small.

I'm pretty isolated on mat leave at the mo & a browse on MN during feeds is a small pleasure in my otherwise rather lonely day. Feel absolutely gutted about the changes tbh as they've made MN more or less unusable for me as things currently stand

Gosh, I defended MNHQ upthread but to launch a new mobile site then have no one around to answer queries is ridiculous.

Do you enjoy having lots of MNetters frothing at you MNHQ?

Ok, thicky mcthickerson here. Thank you to the poster on page 15 I found my way to the mobile site. And now I'm back to the desktop site .

I must admit I didn't hang around, the glaring problem is the whiteness which is too much to look at for too long and as another poster pointed out, is awful for anyone with dyslexia. What will you do MNHQ?

Is this some kind of wind up?

I can't believe MN would make so many obvious design errors!

I hate that when I click on something on TIO it goes to the OP/first page, and I have to trawl through pages to find my last post so I can read from there.

Please change it back. It's horrible :(

It's also horribly slow. And annoying to use.

Ok, I have come back to the laptop so that I can post a more reasoned response.

There are lots of things here that are just aesthetic changes that yes, I probably will get used to in time. There are obviously some glitches that need ironing out (OP post highlighting not working etc). But there are some pointless, reductive changes in functionality that make this current iteration a total fail for me, and I really really hope you listen to all the MNers that are asking for them to be fixed. Threads I'm On is utterly useless without being able to see and click straight to the most recent replies, especially if 'Go to page' is not working (which it currently isn't).

On an aesthetic note, I don't like that there is no separation between thread titles and the first post at the top of each page. The whole thing just looks undefined.

I realise you've all put a lot of hard work into this change. I just don't know why. The old site was fine, for me anyway. I liked a relaxing browse over lunch. This new look is not relaxing, and the lack of functionality currently makes it hardly worth the effort of posting.

Oh dear. It won't load, really- I get 2 posts. The screen is so bright (too much whiteness) it hurts. I can see about 4 lines of text on the screen. When I loaded a 1 post thread (from active convos), it still won't load, and I have some weird huge coloured squares at the bottom of the page- 2 blue ones, then a red and a grey- I'm guessing these might be FB and twitter etc icons?
No ads, because it won't load...

The blue bar is annoying (we used to have this, and it was abandoned once already, wasn;t it?) it just blocks out loads of text...
I'm not sure what the circles at the top and bottom of the page are for, because (did I mention?) it won't load!

I'm sorry but it's really not a matter of getting used to it - for me (and I expect many others) this new version is completely unusable and far, far inferior to the previous version.

Why, oh why was it changed? It was absolutely fine before. Please please please let us use the previous version.

Harold go right to the bottom of your web page on the iPad. It will say desktop site or mobile site. This will be the one you aren't on. You may be on the desktop site and so nothing would look different. If you click to the mobile site you'll see what we are. You can click back.

And why is there some sort of weird messaging field at the top of the page showing "From: [my RL email address] / To: [empty field]"?

I can count on two hands the number of PMs I've sent in my eight years on MN, so if this is what it's for it's wasted on me I'm afraid
