Problems with "Active" reverting to an older page

Littlefish · 28/06/2014 17:08

When I load Mumsnet I always click on "Active". As expected, this brings up the most recent page. However, if I click on a thread and then click on the "back button" to go back to Active, it loads a much older page/set of threads - sometimes from at least a day ago.

This is annoying to say the least and means that I have to keep re-clicking the "Active" tab at the top to reload the most recent version.

Any ideas?

I'm on a iPad using safari.

Hmm still not going back to the page I left. It is refreshing the active page, but I like to go back to where I was otherwise I miss some threads I wanted to have a look at and I repeatedly see others on the active page.

I'm getting exactly this too. It was happening when I read the 2nd page or further of a thread. Seems to be happening if I just read page 1 of a thread now.

SunnyRandall · 04/07/2014 06:48

Grrrr very annoying. I am now opening up the threads I want to read in a new tab so I can close afterwards and return to the original active convo list

amyMumsnet · 04/07/2014 14:32

Hi everyone,

Sorry about all the shouting! Tech are working on how to fix the issue. In the meantime all we can suggest is to open the threads you want to read in new tabs.

Does a slice of Cake sweeten the deal?

WhereAreMyGlasses · 05/07/2014 19:54

This is happening to me too now. I haven't been on my ipad for a while and was working fine on my computer butmold active pages come up on safari on ipad

Pastperfect · 05/07/2014 19:56

Happens to me on my iPad too.

I'm not in the UK so nothing to do with BT

RustyParker · 06/07/2014 11:25

Chuck in a Wine too Amy and we have a deal Grin

amyMumsnet · 06/07/2014 11:37

I'll see what I can do Rusty

EveryGoodBoyDeservesFun · 07/07/2014 15:09

I'm still getting the page refreshed whenever I go back to Active Convos. Any sign of this being resolved?

eddiemairswife · 07/07/2014 21:23

Me too.

lucidlady · 08/07/2014 20:59

Please can we get this fixed - it is becoming incredibly annoying.

blankenbaby · 09/07/2014 06:10

Still happening here but not just on my ipad anymore but also my galaxy tab. It is so annoying it has actually stopped me from going on the site.

PositiveAttitude · 09/07/2014 10:13

Has Tech gone on holiday already? This is taking ages to get sorted. Cake was all eaten last week and Wine vats have been dry for ages, now even the hangover has worn off. Come on Tech, get this sorted it is sooooooooooo annoying!!!

KateSMumsnet · 09/07/2014 12:52

Sorry folks - was hoping the fix would kick in and solve everything, but clearly it hasn't! We'll take another look.

KateSMumsnet · 09/07/2014 14:48

WAIT! I've had lunch, cleaned my glasses and actually figured out what the issue is.

So. Active is continually refreshing to represent how threads are changing. Therefore any time the page has to reload, which includes refreshes and hitting back, it'll update to show new changes. This isn't actually a glitch, it's just how the site works to ensure that Active actually shows threads that are, er, active.

So if you see several threads in Active that you want to read, the best thing to do it open them all in a new tab. That way you don't have to worry about missing stuff you wanted to read when Active refreshes.

ApplebyMennym · 09/07/2014 15:08

It never used to do that though KateSMumsnet - your explanation makes perfect sense and is probably the way it "should" be, but it's really annoying. The way I have always done it is go through the list of active reading what I want, then refresh it and start again, ad infinitum. I never used to have to open new tabs.

AgentProvocateur · 09/07/2014 15:38

Yes, what Appleby said ^^ there. It didn't do that before, and I use "active threads" the same way as she does. (Or he does)

blankenbaby · 09/07/2014 15:43

Yes it never did it until a few weeks ago.

gleegeek · 09/07/2014 15:56

I can see what you mean and why, but it is incredibly annoying! Any chance of making it do what it used to for us who are clearly not happy with change? Grin

PositiveAttitude · 09/07/2014 16:27

I agree and do the same. Hate the change. And why were we not told before as we clearly explained what we were annoyed with. I can see your thinking, but I want to just go back to where I was, not see it continually updated. I have never opened up threads in new tabs, I have enough tabs open and in need of hiding when I am at work It seems a "messy" way to do things to me.

lucidlady · 09/07/2014 16:28

Agree with Appleby. I can't open multiple windows on my phone - I very rarely access MN via desktop.

Someone has BROKEN Active!

Littlefish · 09/07/2014 17:34

I agree with everyone else.

It never used to do it.
It is annoying.
Put it back the way it was.
