Justine's account

Well!

I am fresh out of the shower from a fabulous camping trip in sunny Wales to a call from one of our lovely staff to say that there was a thread started by "Justine" that was really rather vile.

Apologies all, it seems as though we have some nasties hanging around and have managed to hack Justine's account.

Tech are onto it now and we are looking at in what happened.

Justine is on hols atm. Please do report anything odd that you see.

Thanks all and apologies.

Definitely a lot of good points raised by the last few posters, this should be a wake up call to everyone to learn a little more about how to be secure on the web.

Doesn't mumsnet use apache which is vulerable to heartbleed? maybe they don't but the net says they do.

Tweasels · 12/04/2014 14:15

I'd like to know how people can be sure it was hacked too.

Justine or someone else posting like that is not likely, but nor is being hacked.

Tweazels: the posts above maryzed spell out "All your base are belong to us". This is an old hacker meme from many moons ago, the hacker is demonstrating that security still needs to be addressed. At least they are doing it in a benign way.

Tweasels · 12/04/2014 14:21

I said pretty much the same yesterday. If I had the capability to hack into Justine's account I'm sure I could cause way more havoc than that.

Whoever did that knows mumsnet very well I'd say. It's not some random techie trouble maker.

BecauseIsaidS0 · 12/04/2014 14:22

I'd say someone is still "in" going by the above. But at least they (I refuse to just assume it is a "he") have a good sense of humour Grin

MarshaBrady · 12/04/2014 14:23

Yep the posting style and tone was pretty spot on for a random hacker.

That hacker sentence - no idea someone stirring or something more.

RandallFloyd · 12/04/2014 14:24

Blimey, fredp is right. *[[http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/all-your-base-are-belong-to-us >>HERE
