Well!

I am fresh out of the shower from a fabulous camping trip in sunny Wales to a call from one of our lovely staff to say that there was a thread started by "Justine" that was really rather vile.

Apologies all, it seems as though we have some nasties hanging around and have managed to hack Justine's account.

Tech are onto it now and we are looking at in what happened.

Justine is on hols atm. Please do report anything odd that you see.

Thanks all and apologies.

Any update from Mumsnet. anywhere, on what's going on? I'm deleting my account as it's all a bit slow motion/unstable for my liking. Good luck to all!

Is it ok to change a password whilst a site is compromised though?
Is it not better to wait until it's 'safe' again?
Disclaimer:- I have absolutely no idea, was just pondering. I may be being paranoid.

I would definitely change any on other sites where you use the same password though.

sillymillyb · 12/04/2014 15:11

I am looking forward to regrouping after this has all settled down.

That other thread is weird. Who's Edward snowdon?

Tweasels · 12/04/2014 15:11

Hmm, would now be a good time to say all those things you've always wanted to say but are too cowardly nice?

It wasn't me, I was hacked [innocent face]

sillymillyb · 12/04/2014 15:12

I did that Randall, have changed all others except this one, just in case

RandallFloyd · 12/04/2014 15:12

It could be like a get out of jail free card, Tweasels. I like your style!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 12/04/2014 15:13

As far as I know, tech has added the patch so it should no longer vulnerable. The problem is, if it was exploited before the patch was added whoever did has a list of usernames and passwords and if you haven't changed your since the patch was added they can still get into your account.

I'm sure tech already know this: Heartbleed Bug

RandallFloyd · 12/04/2014 15:15

Holy crap Shock

RandallFloyd · 12/04/2014 15:17

That was to TigerBomb btw.

Tweasels · 12/04/2014 15:18
Confused
SnakeyMcBadass · 12/04/2014 15:18

Shit. I recognise one of those names.

DramaQueenofHighCs · 12/04/2014 15:18

I was wondering if it was 'thanks' to the "heartbleed" bug that has been in the news. If that is the case then it's best to keep changing passwords every few days for a while and not just the once as people who have 'cracked' it will be on high alert for password changes and notice them.

Crikey didn't think this would happen.

Grin

Might as well get some good out of this eh?

SnakeyMcBadass · 12/04/2014 15:21

Have reported Tigerbomb's post in the hope that MNHQ will let us know what is going on.

DramaQueenofHighCs · 12/04/2014 15:21

Also why it's important to have *completely different' passwords for everything - it's a bugger to remember them all I know!
