Separate Private Schools board please

Dear Mums Net HQ,
Please can we find somewhere else than 'Secondary School Education' for the Belgravia crowd to parade their 'St Trinians vs Eton' conversations? Its getting like the private school version of Trip Advisor.

Then the SS Education board could get back to talking about slightly more universal topics like GCSEs and bullying, that involve ALL mothers.

Oh I think the regulars are still here.

Starballbunny · 05/02/2014 13:03

Exactly forago North London school anxiety

Viviennemary · 05/02/2014 13:05

I think it would be a good idea to have a separate topic for private schools. It could always be put back into general when Gove has his way and all schools are of private school standard. Hmm

Forago · 05/02/2014 13:10

Or when state schools and private schools are indistinguishable as per his latest edict

Anonymousy · 05/02/2014 13:13

Yawn.

Quinteszilla · 05/02/2014 13:15

I suggest you all go and look at episode six of Russel Howard which will be available on BBC Iplayer for one more day only.

The guest. The surprise. He epitomizes the type of people in power in Britain today.

And on the Chris Evans show this morning, they were debating whether teens not voting when they have the vote, were stupid, or expressing a view by not voting. (much like Russel Brand)

Go figure.

All the politicians are ultimately the same people, cut from the same cloth, having debated together at Eton or where-ever. Boys club.

But you are not changing this by dividing up the education board.

diabolo · 05/02/2014 13:53

What happened to seeker mintyy? Did she leave because of her weird stalker? I didn't agree with most of what she said, but it certainly made for a lively debate.

tess73 · 05/02/2014 14:45

Why is there an education board as well as specific primary and secondary boards? Seems a duplication.
Could rename the education board "which school" board, ie the mumsnet version of trip advisor for schools! But for all schools... Then the primary and secondary boards could revert to issues re school, kids, homework, exams

Seeker is closer than you think diabolo

Bowlersarm · 05/02/2014 15:04

Chips have already been mentioned, curlew.

I wasn't the first, just confirming.

curlew · 05/02/2014 15:13
diabolo · 05/02/2014 15:15

Ah ah. Seeker obviously has a new username. I don't post much on education anymore. Got fed up of the never the twain shall meet, same old arguments.

yourlittlesecret · 05/02/2014 15:18

MrsBright I must admit I had the same thought recently. The secondary topic in particular does seem full of named school threads.

In the interests if all perhaps a "which school should I choose?" topic would cover state v private at both primary and secondary?

diabolo · 05/02/2014 15:26

By Jove! I think I've found her. Or someone with a suspiciously similar posting style. We'll I never! Wink

diabolo · 05/02/2014 15:27

Well. ( hate this bloody iPad thing)

Anonymousy · 05/02/2014 15:31

GrinWink

Splendid stuff.

KateSMumsnet · 05/02/2014 17:48

Hullo everyone,

Thanks for raising this suggestion MrsBright - not sure whether this is something that we've thought of before, so we'd be interested to hear what other folks think about it.

OwlCapone · 05/02/2014 17:49

This is a stupid idea.

LoveIsTheDrug · 05/02/2014 17:50

What a shitty OP.

Chip on your shoulder, much?

Just hide the stuff you're not interested in. The rest of us do it all the time.

hides this thread

LoveIsTheDrug · 05/02/2014 17:51

You can get your marker out whoever that was

curlew · 05/02/2014 18:22

Sorry, you weren't the first to say "chip on your shoulder" so I can't mark my card.

You can be the first to say "my dc's private school is so much more diverse than the state primary" if you like. Or "people have different priorities- we don't have Sky TV or drink or smoke"

Or, and this is a rare but brilliant example "the car park is full of beaten up old Volvos"
Grin

Bowlersarm · 05/02/2014 18:43

Bad idea to segregate the boards. What about posters who want to compare state/private for their DC? Or switch from one to another. Where should they post? Or just have a look at what people are saying in general about secondary education. Oh I suppose they could stick something in'Chat' or 'AIBU'.

Very chippy OP. We go without all sorts to prioritise private schools for our DC. We hardly drink (maybe that's not quite true), we definitely don't smoke though. And we don't have new cars.

(Curlew - have I won?)

OwlCapone · 05/02/2014 18:51

Your post fills several boxes on my card though, Curlew.
