Separate Private Schools board please

Dear Mums Net HQ,
Please can we find somewhere else than 'Secondary School Education' for the Belgravia crowd to parade their 'St Trinians vs Eton' conversations? Its getting like the private school version of Trip Advisor.

Then the SS Education board could get back to talking about slightly more universal topics like GCSEs and bullying, that involve ALL mothers.

Isn't there an algorithm or something to establish what percentage of post deletions will render a thread utterly pointless? Because I think we're there.

MadIsTheNewNormal · 06/02/2014 01:28

My God, if anyone with a child at public school had suggested a separate topic for private education all hell would have broken loose, with cries of 'so you even want segregation of rich children from poor children on MN now, as well?'

It's a daft idea and unnecessary. You don't need to click on the thread if you don't think it applies to you or interests you. But the trouble is, many people will click on those threads, just so they can be a fly on the wall - and then get all indignant and enraged about it. And if you enjoy that kind of thing then you'll still click on the threads no matter what topic they are in.

We already have far too many topic headings that no-one uses as it is.

AuntieStella · 06/02/2014 07:22

It's OK, maryz the deleted posts were in no way relevant to the arrangement of MN talk topics, whether more boards are needed to cover education, and if so whether separating schools by method of funding them is a sensible way to do so.

KateSMumsnet · 06/02/2014 12:50

Hello everyone,

We've mulled this over at MNHQ, and we don't think we'll be separating the boards since, as many of you have pointed out, the majority of the issues raised on the boards, regardless of what kind of school, are the same.

As ever, if there's a thread that doesn't appeal to you, you're very welcome to hide it.

FunLovinBunster · 06/02/2014 13:00

Thank you Kate.
Pleased that common sense has prevailed.

Glad to here it!

stealthsquiggle · 06/02/2014 13:45

Good for you, MNHQ.

good news

Sorry Gunznroses - getting paranoid in my old age.

13+ CE made my DS. He didn't win a scholarship so knew that he had to do well in CE to make sure he was in top sets. It was hard year but when the results came, he was delighted. It's all the work he put in there that means he's doing so well now.

I also think my local town Air Cadets do the flying for 14 years plus, so it's something a fair few boys and girls get to do regardless of school.

We'll done MumsnetHQ.

Gunznroses · 06/02/2014 14:37

diablo Its alright, it all got a bit crazy here last night Grin. Tis a tough yr and ds is working his socks off, which makes really annoyed when people say they we are "buying results" they're obvioysly not selling them at our school! Good luck to your ds in his GCSEs
oops!Forgot they only do those in state schools!

Bowlersarm · 06/02/2014 14:38

Good decision, MNHQ.

ChippingInWadesIn · 08/02/2014 00:22
