Oh fgs million. The talk guidelines and HQ's comments generally are filled with purposefully vague phrases like "letting the conversation flow freely, "making parents lives easier" precisely because you just can't have hard-and-fast rules to police all aspects of conversation. There needs to be a bit of discretion and commonsense, which is what the moderators seem to have, but since you can't always formulate the correct solution on the basis of rules HQ aren't going to be able to point out a precise rule in the face of interrogation about every decision. If you try and make them cite rules for every decision you are just cornering them into a kind of pedantry exercise that no one can win.

Honestly amillionyears , in the nicest possible way you really need to let this go, - you are unhappy with the way MNHQ do things but you cannot change it, and there are plenty of others who actually bloody love this site most of the time and think they do a pretty good job at it.

Drop it lovely, it's getting a bit odd.

To summarise.
Though someone else may be able to do it better than me.
MNHQ allowed a regular mumsnet poster to carry on with a thread they knew to be a wind up yesterday.
Today they have changed teh MN Talk Guidelines on trolls.
Their previous rules, which were valid yesterday, stated that they do not allow trolls including those that do it just for the hell of it.

Today, they are have changed the rules. And have quoted them, so it looks like the MN poster who started the thread yesterday, did not break their rules.
They have also not stated that their rules have been changed, either today, or in the last few hours.

I was deleted for no real reason, I didn't realise that saying "this has to be a wind up" was classed as troll hunting.
So we are to believe everything that is posted on here & can't comment if we think its a joke.

It's their site, they can adapt the rules whenever they like though.

And really, this is one up on 'mad as a box of frogs' is a racist slur on French people.

First post from them was that it was a poster was a poster from before and that there was no reason to doubt the posting. I.e. the poster had posted sensible (kinda) before and they assumed she was a bad obsessive baker and a tad controlling. At this point they were taken in and believed it real

Second comment was that they had had another reporting and by this time it was obvious that everyone knew it was a wind up and it was making people laugh. So let it slide (anyone who had read He is a Geography teacher could have had this dawn on them)

Not in the same league as some making up something like they have been locked in the garden shed in their nightie.

I also don't like funny trolling threads hi stick to the view of dont like It then move onto to something I do like.

MN is great and no one is forcing you to use it.

Amillion, most people don't take MN as seriously as you seem to.

It's just a bit of fun for most people, a way of killing time. Sometimes people look for help here, and often find it.

But most don't lose all perspective, and fail to see the difference between a lighthearted joke, and malicious trolling.

I love threads like the mad bun lady. Really funny. There are loads of places for sensible chat. If people want to join in on random stupid threads, why not??

MNHQ have already explained that whilst they knew it was a regular MNer they genuinely thought she was posting about her substandard cake-eating husband, not that she had made it up for a laugh.
