I've read most of most threads about this. I could be wrong about my assessment of the whole situation (wouldn't be the first time), but I think there's an issue of miscommunication. There are people who are very knowledgeable about whatever it is they're involved with ? and those are people who will inevitably see the worst that can happen; and there are people who know they don't know and ask for advice; and then there are people who genuinely don't know that they don't know, iyswim, and innocently posts something that absolutely riles the more knowledgeable posters.
What should happen is that the poster who doesn't know gets the information they need; and the poster who doesn't know that they don't know gets more than information but also gets an education about . From my brief looks, over some time, at the various animal areas, DBF is very, very good at the former, but didn't seem to deal very well with the latter. I can well understand how frustrating it can be to be constantly dealing with dogs that need rescuing because of people's ignorance/lack of knowledge, but if an area becomes untenable because people avoid it, then the possibility of education flies out of the window.
DBF will continue in her good work, but her attitude in The Dog House had an unfortunate side-effect in that it became an area where people didn't want to dip in to just for interest, so the educational opportunity got lost.
It's not only The Dog House and DBF ? there's a thread in The Tack Room where someone posted an innocent question. There were some good and informative responses (from which I learned that I didn't know what I didn't know, but I do now). But there was one response that solely said they'd go postal ? no explanation, no education. And that's the problem. Yes, it can be frustrating to be constantly coming up against ignorance, with the possible consequence of dogs being destroyed because of that ignorance; but ignorance can only be overcome by education, and that requires huge amounts of patience by those have more knowledge that they're willing to patiently explain over and over again. And I think that's the point that DBF gave up on.
