You're saying you class me as an 'oldie' ? Shock

Wow.

SoupDragon · 08/11/2011 18:45

Banning someone who promised to "behave" in order to rescind a previous ban isn't mean or petty.

LeBOF · 08/11/2011 18:46

Hell yeah! After six months you've seen everything this place has to offer, and you are just hooked on the crack, pretty much...

SoupDragon · 08/11/2011 18:46

[shrug] TBH I have virtually no idea whether someone is a newbie or not and I care even less.

I don't either, by and large, SoupDragon. I was just struck by somebody being so interested by board politics when they had said themselves that they were new and couldn't care much about the banned person. However, it turns out that I was operating with an erroneous assumption of what new meant.

SoupDragon · 08/11/2011 18:54

Most people are new in my eyes...

LadyBeagleEyes · 08/11/2011 18:55

I've decided to only PARD on this thread now, I'm just not confrontational enough.
Love and Peace to you all.
And if I add to this thread in any other way but PARD, please report me. Grin

LeBOF

OMG, and you know how long I've been here......

Grin

It doesn't bother me if people are new or not, I look at the topic being discussed and decide whether to post or not, not the names of posters.

I flit here there and everywhere !

OhDoAdmit · 08/11/2011 19:04

I am a long term poster (recent name change). I am also a dog lover.

I am a prolific poster with lots to say too much time on my hands and I have an opinion on just about everything.

I dont post in the Dog House. Hardly ever. Even though I have dogs and love dogs. I just cant be arsed to worry about how I am wording it, what I am saying, I cant be totally open about my animals in case I 'get it wrong' in their eyes.

DBF has done a lot of good stuff. She loves her animals. She always offers geniune help to dogs. I think she would do more if she didnt alienate people quite so much.

Ironically on the thread that started all this she was pretty restrained when I last looked in.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 08/11/2011 19:05

I cannot spend another entire evening on one thread Mumsnet.

I am getting increasingly hacked off at those who are tarring everyone on The Doghouse as being fanatical and evangelical about 'RESCUE'. Then being slagged off from people who only ever see the rather over zealous posts and not the very helpful ones and as a regular poster on TDH it is making me quite cross.

There are some hideously passive agressive posters on this thread who are going all over MN spouting the same cliche over and over again.

I avoid certain topics on MN like the plague - FEminism being one of them. But I would never target anyone on MN.

Please JustineMNHQ please please put an end to this. Make a decision before my eyes fall out and my laptop combusts. Smile

MmeLindor. · 08/11/2011 19:06

Am laughing at the tortoises diluting the pet topic. (as an aside - is breeding them illegal?)

And then Catalie posted

"Ah, perhaps so, Justine. I might have been in a benign cockatiel bubble around then"

which I found rather diverting. Would love to be in a benign cockatiel bubble.

It's the inconsistency that bothers me here.

It's all very well saying she was warned and she wouldn't abide by the rules therefore she deserved a ban, but what of those posters who seemingly never offer a single helpful comment, but jump in to tell the OP they are a loon, deluded, a piece of work or vile or simply being precious. Where's the balance?

Val may have a robust posting style but the length she would go to to offer help and support in a field she was passionate about was breathtaking.

If I were in her position, and having watched how the threads in question went, I would feel I had been deliberately set up for a fall here.

GrimmaTheNome · 08/11/2011 19:08

as an aside - is breeding them illegal?
I don't think so - importing them is so the only legal tortoises are UK-bred ones.

letitwork · 08/11/2011 19:09

I've been here four years (in different guises having deregged many times!) I've also had my arse kicked many times in AIBU but have never been so roundly flamed as when I posted in the dog house.

I posted about a story about a rescue dog I had taken on in the past who turned out to have very deep seated aggression problems. Never have I seen such a pile-in by posters before, and believe me I have seen many pile-ins.

This thread clarifies a lot for me!

ConstanceNoring · 08/11/2011 19:09

I knew that would happen, by the time I type out my two-penneth the thread descends into talk of tortoises and I look like a fool.

It's normally ducks and dolphins mind you.....

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 08/11/2011 19:09

ohdoadmit she was restrained. It was non 'doghouse' posters who piled in and started name calling, being vile and going on about TLES children and personal hygiene habits. It was fucking disgraceful to say the least! And this was waaaaay after DBF had offered to still help rehome TLES dog. Sad

Those who name called with no evidence to support their allegations have not been banned. I know this, they are still posting away quite merrily.

MmeLindor. · 08/11/2011 19:11

This is just going to go around and around like a lost French tourist at his first British roundabout, searching in vain for a signpost that doesn't say "North" or "South" but gives an idea of which cities are north or south cause his geography of UK is not that hot.

Or something.

Justine.
Would you like some Lindt Salted Caramel Choc?

bibbitybobbitybloodyaxe · 08/11/2011 19:11

Boffy (my lovely fellow oldie) - I think in cases like this it is a good idea not to see it as an issue of board politics, but just yer actual facts, as per Lemon Difficult's posts a long long time ago on this thread.

I am really genuinely amazed to see the hectoring of hq that is going on. They hardly ever ban people - we see complaints all the time that it takes too long to get people banned. So now they have taken firm(ish) action and people are going wah.

Posters in support of Val: please don't overlook or dismiss those who have made extremely good arguments in support of her ban, not least of which is that her aggressive manner means that people and their dogs who could benefit from the help of the dog housers are actually turned off from going there.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 08/11/2011 19:11

My DH has always wanted a tortoise. (so have I secretly)
