Am I the only one to be a bit sad that Mumsnet have caved in?

Don't know, just feel a bit that some people felt it necessary to report mumsnet to a baby milk board or whatever it is for a so called breach of advertising. If you use and love a website why on earth would you want to get them into trouble?

Hmmmmm. I bet they feel like they have been beaten up this week. Storm in a teacup.

V weird.

I'm not sad. I'd have been far more sad if Tiktok and Mears had left.

I don't think they've "caved in" as you put it. They've listened to their members and made their own minds up. They had all the arguments before them and made a decision based on the arguments.

And I reported the Milupa helpline to the NCT. Not to get Mumsnet into trouble, but to ensure that something is done about that helpline. For me, that is actually a much bigger issue than one ad.

nutcracker · 25/08/2005 15:01

Yes i do too Oo.

hunkermunker · 25/08/2005 15:01

Agree re the "helpline" caligula (you uncapped hussy you ).

snafu · 25/08/2005 15:02

I don't think they've caved in, have they? They've put something on the site, many of us said we were unhappy about it, and have made changes to their policy in light of that. There are many other sources of advertising revenue than formula milks.

hunkermunker · 25/08/2005 15:03

Wonder whether those who feel sad are those who also talked about how terrible it was this was all "making other women feel guilty for formula-feeding" on the other threads, thereby spectacularly missing the point?

Ladymuck · 25/08/2005 15:03

Don't know if you're the only one, but I have to say that I was sad when it seemed to be the case the MN didn't care what the users thought. I'm delighted that they have listened, even if they're not removing the ad.

naughtynaughtynoonoo · 25/08/2005 15:03

so how many people actually said they were against it, and how many said they didn't mind?

Or did they just work on the best known mumsnetters opinions?

snafu · 25/08/2005 15:04

Oh, fgs.

milkymouth · 25/08/2005 15:05

You're an odd one olive!

So much energy going down the drain.

WigWamBam · 25/08/2005 15:05

What "best known MNers"? There were fairly vocal long-standing MNers on both sides.

??? milkymouth.

Maybe I am in a minority, but it has left a bad taste of bullying in my mouth.

hunkermunker · 25/08/2005 15:06

OK, perhaps bitch was the wrong word. But this certainly smacks of the "why are people getting het up about this, ffs it's only an ad" posts which have been in evidence recently and miss the point in dramatic fashion.

So the ad's not important to you? Never mind. Post about things that are.

oliveoil · 25/08/2005 15:07

I have posted about somehting I feel important, hence my thread.

OP posts:
lemonice · 25/08/2005 15:07

caved in is a strange way to put it, i think they said they "listened, cogitated and ruminated"

naughtynaughtynoonoo · 25/08/2005 15:07

just looking through a few threads seems that the invaluable, or useful members - as descibed by others, shouted the loudest and therefore got heard.

so how many did say they didn't mind the advert?

SoupDragon · 25/08/2005 15:07

How have they caved in? The ad stays and the future ads they've committed to, they've just revised the policy for future advertising.

hunkermunker · 25/08/2005 15:07

Fair enough.

Bullying works both ways though and a very great deal of the "give it a rest ffs" posts have had more than a smack of it about them IMO.

naughtynaughtynoonoo · 25/08/2005 15:09

doesnt look like they caved in, but a bit sad that they felt they had to justify themself so much going to details of accounts, profits, and the rest of it

milkymouth · 25/08/2005 15:09

Bullying?
I'm surprised you think this.
The people who run MN are intelligent and reasoned.
Many people objected to the advert. They complained vociferously, citing their reasons. MN listened, conceded and therefore changed their policy.

I think this is what generally happens in civilised societies.

I agree with you there, hunker.

LIZS · 25/08/2005 15:10

Don't think they've caved. A review was promised and has happened a bit earlier than planned - the ad is still there after all .
