Am I the only one to be a bit sad that Mumsnet have caved in?

Don't know, just feel a bit that some people felt it necessary to report mumsnet to a baby milk board or whatever it is for a so called breach of advertising. If you use and love a website why on earth would you want to get them into trouble?

Hmmmmm. I bet they feel like they have been beaten up this week. Storm in a teacup.

V weird.

i think that those who didnt care about the advert got upset because those who hated it told basically told them they were stupid for not understanding the issues surrounding it.

But lots and lots of people did totally miss the point and turn it into breast v bottle, which was not what it was ever intended to be.

It was about the legality of the advert, and the sheer gall of Milupa setting up to offer breastfeeding advice.

The advert didn't bother me and I am not stupid either.

But I did note a lot of people (me included) hastened to add they b/fed as if that made a difference to their views. So it did make bottle feeders feel bad, as much as the pros made out it was only about the sly advertising aspect, IMO it was just more breast is best ranting in parts.

Thanks for noticing FIO It has been building up inside of me!! Toothache if the typos were meant for me, just blame my ignorance then! If they had spellcheck on preview, I guess I would come off a bit more intelligent....

blimey toothache, what's with you today? That wasn't directed at you - again!

I never even saw the ad until it was pointed out that it was there. I'm a strong, confident person, and no ad would make my decision one way or another. I bottlefed DD, but not b/c of pressure from advertisers - she didn't latch well and I had severe PND. I wouldn't have been able to continue bf'ing her had I started b/c I needed some very serious anti-d's, anti-anxiety drugs, hypertension meds, sleeping tablets, etc.

Do I have to quote Caligula's drip drip drip theory of advertising here?

Or talk about how people who trust health professionals to offer impartial advice might not realise that health professionals are some of the most heavily advertised-at by formula companies (and other baby and child-related products) people in the country?

milkymouth · 25/08/2005 15:33

(Perhaps we'd all be better off not mentioning that we breastfeed in case bottlefeeders feel bad? Is that what you're saying? )

Incidentally, there were quite a few bottlefeeders who objected to the ad,and quite a few breastfeeders who weren't really bothered.

tbh, the individual advert didn't bother me that much either, except as part of a wider cultural problem (and the drip drip effect)! What really bothers me, is that bloody helpline.
