pmsl at this thread
If it was about crossover between op's real life, fb and thread why didn't they just delete posts

well, if we don't have threads about posters who employ domestic staff then it's easier to deny that it happens isn't it?

ifancyashandy · 11/07/2010 21:37

Portia I think you are very wise.....

Not getting it. There are always threads on mumsnet about lazy nannies/slovenly cleaners etc. Why was this different?

tethersend · 11/07/2010 21:40

It heartened my in a lot of ways.

I really thought the thread was a joke at first. when I realised it wasn't and that I was the lone voice of dissent, I felt incredibly sad.

Then the cavalry arrived

This whole 'leave the op alone' whining is really starting to aggravate me. The op chose to post on that thread and on other widely available internet sites and on other threads within this site. She got caught out but requires no lashings of sympathy for that. Something about living and dying by the sword comes to mind. People were exactly the same on the wretched rarebird thread last week. Tons of posts complaining about a witch hunt etc on a thread that that Rarebird started and gave a ton of personal info on. we all have personal responsibility for ourselves and our posting. If you don't want it to be dissected then don't bloody post it! Is fluffiness obligatory around here now - is that what mnet is all about?

The economic disparity means that there are sometimes accusations of abuse or modern-day slavery. And the debate was about the point at which you stop providing an opportunity and gainful employment and start perpetuating and benefitting from an immoral labour exchange.

So there are racial/cultural/economic issues there, and inevitably it is sensitive, but I don't think there was anything offensive or gratuitous on the thread, not counting the FB stuff I suppose.

expatinscotland · 11/07/2010 21:43

Applauds Northerlurker.

tethersend · 11/07/2010 21:43

backto, there were indeed boasts of how grateful some posters' staff were.

tethersend · 11/07/2010 21:45

I really don't think there were personal attacks though.

The bits I read were very interesting, and definitely thought provoking. I thought intelligent discussion was exactly what mumsnet is about

Unless someone rocked up in the last few pages and started randomly shouting abuse.

AnyFucker · 11/07/2010 21:46

Gosh, I wonder if MOS spat the dummy out...?

grumblegrumble · 11/07/2010 21:47

No, no abuse chickens, was actually a much more general debate about broader principles than earlier in the thread.

expatinscotland · 11/07/2010 21:47

Didn't see any personal attacks.

ninah · 11/07/2010 21:47

'right, have started 'the' thread in AIBU. Light the bluetouch paper. If I get flamed it is all your fault! '

thread was a wind up

AnyFuleKno · 11/07/2010 21:48

My favourite bit was when the OP said that the 'houseboy' was like a member of the family, then later revealed that he lived in a dormitory in a compound with other service staff and wasn't allowed to be at the house outside his working times - oh yes, just like a member of the family.

tethersend · 11/07/2010 21:48

Right- I posted on this thread in response to MOS saying 'some bitch has already started', meaning (we think) me.

I responded asking to join them as I was upset someone had called me a bitch, and then pretended I had posted on the wrong thread.

MOS's post and my two have been deleted. So that may have something to do with it?
