The forum on website Money Saving Expert has a thread all about the B&Q fiasco.

It's got lots of useful info about who to contact and there is one of the users collecting info about people affected so B&Q can be named and shamed publicly about this. The thread is currently 39 pages long, but it's the last 10 or so which have the contact info in them.

good luck.

Crikey, I shall think myself very lucky that mine arrived at all then, despite the fact bits of the wood are broken, and it's so rough that dh has had to spend hours sanding it down.

mumbojumbo · 02/08/2005 15:25

I know - it's grim and you get an idea of the number of people who have been affected. What really makes me mad is the fact that these people have bought stuff for their kids so its the kids who have been let down.

I hope the site is of use, I really don't want B&Q to get away with this scandal and appalling show of dreadful customer service.

charliecat · 02/08/2005 15:28

Actually makes tearful readung, very frustrating indeed.

vickiyumyum · 02/08/2005 15:28

wigwamnbam - my thoguhts entirley. i was complaining that neither of the two items i ordered had instructions and that i though that the quality of the castle playset was a bid shoddy with the rough wood and several large splinters sticking out. but at least teh kids have got something from their birthday money.

i would say that sticking with the complaints is a good idea but it appears from the money saving website that all that is going to happen is b&q will get some bad publicity, which at the end of the day isn't going to effect them a great deal as millions of customers will still continue to shop there.

i do hope that they prove me wrong and make some kind of effort to improve the situatuion!

misdee · 02/08/2005 15:29

charliecat · 02/08/2005 15:47

my wood on the ben nevis is nice and smooth, no splinters, says is been treated but needs treated every 6 months.

OP posts:
vickiyumyum · 02/08/2005 15:49

i couldn't actually find any on ebay, was just looking out of curiosity. has anyone got a link to one?

WigWamBam · 02/08/2005 15:51

charliecat, I'm jealous! The wood on our Ben Nevis is as rough as rough, and bits have broken off some of the pieces. I know it says it's treated, but you can tell from the pieces that have broken that the wood is very light and porous (it's only pine, so is a soft wood) and so we have decided to treat it before we put it up.

charliecat · 02/08/2005 15:51

heres one

misdee · 02/08/2005 15:52

OP posts:
Merlin · 02/08/2005 15:56

oh dear it was all going so well.

I ordered the castle one - expecting delivery today - guess what? Only the slide bit turned up - I rang them and was told "Oh, it's out of stock, sorry you weren't informed - we've had a problem with a couple of the other playcentres, but this one should be OK - more stock expected 7-14 days" I'm not feeling very confident.

misdee · 02/08/2005 15:57

i'm not moving anywhere, mieow is!

charliecat · 02/08/2005 15:58

oops nearly, borrow meiows?

OP posts:
vickiyumyum · 02/08/2005 15:59

dh said that it is very theraputic to come home and sand wood, so much so that each night before he has got changed from work he has been out in the garage sanding and staining the bits ready to put them up next weekend.

shame he doesn't show so much enthusiasm for actual gradening and the grass and the borders are now indistinguishable (?sp)

misdee · 02/08/2005 15:59

i could steal it...........
