Luxury and timeless items that bring you joy

What luxury or good quality items have you received or bought for yourself that you think stand the test of time and bring you joy?

Big birthday coming up so I plan to drop heavy hints to DH and also treat myself over the course of the year.

These can be wearable items or home goods and gadgets. They can be expensive (up to low thousands) or much less.

They can be items that finally made you feel like a grown up but that bring you a rush of wonder when you use them.

I’m after quality or beauty or practicality rather than anything super fashionable.

Sadly budget won’t stretch to car or holiday home! And I don’t have the capacity for more pets. I’m good at coming up with experiences gifts so it’s just cold, hard, material goods I’m after!

Valentino sunglasses from TKMaxx. I love them.

I bought some Givenchy sunglasses from TK
Maxx which are very nice. With the diamanté lettering.

I have other things for practical purposes.
A thing of beauty is a joy forever.....and the workmanship is astounding.

My brother would agree with you re Alessi design. He collects it.

It’s already been mentioned but a Cartier watch - I bought one for myself over 15 years ago before I was married or had kids and when i probably had the most personal disposable income, and it brings me pleasure every time I wear it - I have never regretted the spend for a second. I then did buy a 2nd one for myself for my 50th… and I would like to get a third so that I have one to hand on to each of my children.

Here are the things on my "desire" pile

A print from https://www.henriksimonsen.com/gallery/ - the website doesn't do them justice
Dinosaur Design resin works https://dinosaurdesigns.co.uk/collections/all-homewares or their rings https://dinosaurdesigns.co.uk/collections/all-jewellery/products/resin-slate-ring
Mairi Helena fabrics https://www.mairihelena.co.uk/shop/category/furniture/footstools

@OrchidsBloomimg I love Dinosaur Design resin too. Bought several pieces when I lived in Australia 20 years ago and I still appreciate/love them.

I don’t have a tennis bracelet but an ex colleague of mine who loved designer items, turned her nose up at both a diamond tennis bracelet and Mulberry messenger bag that her DH got her separately for Christmas. Spoiled madam!

Ungrateful.... She could always pass my way! 😆

I gave my DD my diamond Longines watch. I only wear my rose gold Apple watch now, even with evening wear.

That is so uncanny. Mine is a rose gold apple watch also! I have a blingy strap for big occasions, and a pale pink strap for everyday. Like you, I don't use anything else these days, they are so useful for lots of things.

I once had the most beautiful, fragrant red rose bush that came with our house. We had an extension and I told the builders you can touch anything but that rose bush. So of course they ripped it out. Was so cross as no rose bush since including a David Austin one, has come close. It had repeated flowering through what felt like several seasons and the colour and fragrance were divine. If anyone has a variety they’d recommend please let me know!

Ma grew roses in our backyard when I was little. My absolute favourite wasa scented deep red climbing rose called Etoile de Hollande. It flowered all summer and scented the whole house on still summer nights. I've planted one in every house I've lived in.

Pooky rechargeable light for my bathroom. It is totally unnecessary, absolutely beautiful and I love it.

I have a big birthday coming up later this year and have started looking for some kind of vintage ring that "touches " me. So far only tried one on.
I would love a really powerfully scented rose too, nothing like the scent of it on a balmy summer day.
I wonder if you can get diamond studs that sort of screw on to the back of your eyes?

I would love them but I am clumsy and short sighted so would worry about losing them.

You can definitely get screw back diamond studs. A lot of places offer that as an option

Oh I like that. Does it cast quite a mellow light?

A beautiful piece of art to transform your space. A stunning piece of jewellery.

No normal woman would turn their nose up at a tennis bracelet.. unless it was a mean one!

Very good perfume, but wear it often instead of for special events.

Scandi interior (royal design or svenskt tenn)
small diamond hoops/huggies in yellow gold
a cartier watch
Gucci sunglasses

Yes. I was hoping it would be enough on its own for a relaxing bath, but I do still need a few candles as well.

Since I’ve posted I thought of a couple more - btw still wanting a great ring or tennis bracelet … I wouldn’t be saying no if my DH bought me those

anyhow..

my Pelegrims soap - love it everywhere

great soap bars - I do like sone of the Kew Gardens ones and Nesti Dante and a lovely fig one

a bright red leather handbag / something about the redness of it

a Danielle Draper green quartz ring

Lisa Eldridge refillable lipstick

someone mentioned Alessi - I have the apostrophe orange peeler thing - small not expensive and is lovely, something about the weight in your hand

When i divorced my husband 6 years ago, he took the tv and the old sofa the bastard. Clearly didn't ghink of his children. So I purchased a much bigger tv and an oxblood Chesterfield sofa which I adore

A pair of carved altar statues made for me by Bel Bucca who carved Doreen Valientes altar statues. Bel has since died so there wont be any more so they are priceless in our community. People would pay thousands for them but they wont be going anywhere while I am still alive.

OwlSock · Yesterday 18:59

I agree with all those who suggest a watch, especially Cartier. I bought myself a steel Panthère de Cartier watch over 20 years ago with some of the money from my divorce settlement. It was very significant and symbolic of a new time for me. I have worn it everyday since and I love it just as much now as I did then.

HappyHedgehog247 · Yesterday 19:08

in terms of homewares:
Devon Duvets wool mattress topper and amazing bedding from John Lewis
An Eames armchair for reading
Original Cornish oil paintings bought from the studio

all have brought me multi-year joy

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · Yesterday 19:16

Cartier watch and Mulberry handbags. I wear/use them pretty much every day and have done for years. I’d rather invest in pieces that will last and will give me joy each time I pick them up, than get a load of cheaper bits I fall out of love with.
