Such a lovely thread, I've been nodding away reading people's posts 🙂
I have practical stuff like a KitchenAid stand mixer and Dualit toaster but I suppose I've had them so long I've stopped seeing them as luxuries (the fact that they go on and on and on makes them worth every penny though.) I do have the KitchenAid tea kettle which is no longer made, it's such a thing of beauty I do admit to gazing lovingly at it at times 😀
Yes yes to fountain pens - so nice to see so many mentions of them on here - but please no Mont Blanc, any serious fountain pen collector will tell you they are made of cheap plastic and have very poor nibbage. The perfect example of marketing over quality. Head to Pelikan, Onoto Conway Stewart or Visconti if you want a genuinely sublime writing experience.
Totally agree with other stationery luxuries - I have a dark brown leather Smythson writing folio and it just smells of luxury
@Serenity45 I'm so thrilled that Decleor has come back!
Watches - I have a 1978 Rolex Oyster Quartz and a 1965 Rolex 18ct gold cocktail watch (the Mrs works in luxury watches and I've learned so much from her.) As others have observed you just feel knockout wearing a good watch.
I have some Chanel scarves but they don't get anywhere near as much of a look-in as they should. Not a fan of Hermes so that saves me a pretty penny 😀
@Auroragirl I too love south sea pearls - what do you have? I only have white, gold and Tahitian stud earrings and a Tahitian necklace. I'd love a full strand of goldens.
I love to carry history/luxury with me if that makes sense, so I have two 2.55s and I love the fact that they are identical to Chanel's design of Feb 1955 (other than the addition of the word 'Chanel' on the clasp, thank you Karl Lagerfeld 😀) Similarly I have a collection of iconic perfumes and like to think of the year/era that they were launched/popular in, so when I smell L'Heure Bleu I think that's what 1912 smelled like, with Mitsouko I know what 1919 smelled like, 1925 Shalimar, 1933 Vol de Nuit etc. It transports me to the luxury of a previous time.
I know you said you're ok for experiences @Traveltart but if you don't do this regularly might I suggest classical concerts in the best places you can find, I always get to The Proms and the day after my 50th saw the Paris String Quartet play in the Madeleine. It was utterly wonderful and I'll never forget it.
