Luxury and timeless items that bring you joy

What luxury or good quality items have you received or bought for yourself that you think stand the test of time and bring you joy?

Big birthday coming up so I plan to drop heavy hints to DH and also treat myself over the course of the year.

These can be wearable items or home goods and gadgets. They can be expensive (up to low thousands) or much less.

They can be items that finally made you feel like a grown up but that bring you a rush of wonder when you use them.

I’m after quality or beauty or practicality rather than anything super fashionable.

Sadly budget won’t stretch to car or holiday home! And I don’t have the capacity for more pets. I’m good at coming up with experiences gifts so it’s just cold, hard, material goods I’m after!

Coffee machine

Karistyleaftea · 29/04/2026 16:03

@Traveltart It was yellow gold (which I don't really want) with 3 diamonds either side of the shank so you couldn't really see the colour of the gold and the stone was an aquamarine in a sort of squarish chunky shaped raised setting.
Sounds quite bad in that description doesn't it!
It was unusual enough for me to try it on but my engagement ring is sapphire and diamond and I never wear that.
The other ring I quite liked the look of was a fire opal but it was new and too dainty a ring for me.

Things I already own that I would immediately repurchase are:

Perfumer H fragrances

My Barbour jacket

Double hanging egg chair for the garden

Sage coffee machine

Tempur mattress

A painting by My Dog Sighs. He paints incredible eyes with reflections in the pupil. If you want to combine art and jewellery he has produced a collection with the amazing goldsmith Charlotte Cornelius. Mydogsighs.co.uk

He’s been leaving free art all over Portsmouth for the Easter treasure hunt . I follow him but didn’t get a chance to go down and look for some. Just wish I bought something years ago when it was a lot cheaper, he was friends with my daughter’s ex at the time and not well known….gutted

Oh what a glorious thread to happen upon while I'm procrastinating from the next thing on the MUST DO TODAY list. I'd much rather think about fancy purchases (none of which are a priority anytime soon) but also show gratitude for the lovely things I already have.

My favourite things that I prize and admire daily:
Cartier Santos watch
Aspinal leather-bound notebook which I use every day with my Montblanc pen with amethyst ink
Chanel sunglasses
Chanel Les Exclusifs Comete perfume

On my wishlist are:
Kunzite and diamond ring https://www.instagram.com/gemshed_designs/
Sauna cube for the garden https://heracleswellness.co.uk/products/leil-dice-comfy-4-to-5-person-outdoor-sauna
Bramwell Brown weather clock https://www.bramwellbrown.com/
Artworks by Julia Chatting https://www.seaglassgallery.co.uk/julia-chatting
Artwork by Lucy Storrs https://lucystorrs.com
House overlooking the sea
More time to enjoy all of the above.

Wow that sauna is next level and I have never craved one before! Love the jewels though I can’t see the ring you linked to, lots of fab ideas - keep them coming!

I have this very moment been outbid for an aquamarine ring. Probably just as well…

@Traveltart Ah, sorry to hear that, hope you find another one you really like soon.

Marina Rinaldi is the curve size of max mara. It's starts at a 12!
If like I'll send you a picture of my coat but prefer DM

I would re purchase: Chanel tweed boucle jacket, Chanel bag, birkin- nb, all pre-loved!; I might not re purchase : earrings - emerald cut diamonds (I like to mix others now, more fun gold hoops etc so dont wear too much), perfume (Celine); I would def not repurchase: Cartier tank. I Wear a smart watch instead, everywhere. Nothing for the house or kitchen, no way! 😂

My DM had Chanel boucle tweed suits back in the 50s/60s when she worked in advertising. I so wish she’d kept them!

I don't buy new. Bar one and my first one twenty odd years ago.

My sapphire one dates from 2016. Used once.

Ah ok. Noted.

Wipeywipey · 29/04/2026 18:20

I think you should get a very good gardener to help you find and plant a replacement rose!

semideponent · 29/04/2026 18:41

I love love love my Hermes watch. Cape Cod style with four of the numbers being teeny tiny diamonds. I wear it every day and feel lost without it.

A Heywood Hill book subscription also brings me a lot of pleasure. As does top quality bed linen.

I recently got a job, helped by my handbag charm 🤣.
They told me after the interview that as soon as they saw my cartoon "day of the dead" inspired little skeleton bedecked with roses, that i'd fit right in.

Excellent. It could have gone either way ;-)

LancashireButterPie · 29/04/2026 19:35

I am more into practicality and functionality than luxury. However I adore Geurlain's Aqua allegoria perfume, in mandarin and basil and wear it everyday.
I have recently treated myself to a small 25ft yacht (sounds grander than it is) and I'm looking at a very expensive luxury chicken house.
I don't drink much but when I do I like a nice Chablis.

I know! To be honest I'd forgotten it was on my bag. I guess it brightened my otherwise very sober outfit.

An Alber Elbaz era Lanvin coat, thin wool, silk lined. Bought second hand, but SO beautiful would have sold house to get it anyway.
Ferian jewellery.
Richard Cook paintings,
Prada flat boots.
Byredo scent.
Vintage linen sheets.
Ancient roses.
Niwaki garden tools.
Falor bags.
I'm not buying any of these now......change of circumstances, but I have them.........and they're beautiful.

Diamond stud earrings, which I only take out to exercise (no jewellery allowed). Bought myself some to stick two fingers up at the cancer I thought I'd beaten (well, the oncology team had beaten). I now need to trade them in for a bigger pair. That'll do it!!!

I hope the huge diamond earrings work. Good luck.

Some of it is very modern! And then I found this. Doesn’t even look like the same designer but why is it so cheap?! ebay.us/m/EaHEsM

I have bought designer in the past a few bits here and there. Sometimes the design is lovely but it’s not that practical. Half the stuff I had when younger doesn’t fit me now. Waaahhh
