Luxury and timeless items that bring you joy

What luxury or good quality items have you received or bought for yourself that you think stand the test of time and bring you joy?

Big birthday coming up so I plan to drop heavy hints to DH and also treat myself over the course of the year.

These can be wearable items or home goods and gadgets. They can be expensive (up to low thousands) or much less.

They can be items that finally made you feel like a grown up but that bring you a rush of wonder when you use them.

I’m after quality or beauty or practicality rather than anything super fashionable.

Sadly budget won’t stretch to car or holiday home! And I don’t have the capacity for more pets. I’m good at coming up with experiences gifts so it’s just cold, hard, material goods I’m after!

Some of it is very modern! And then I found this. Doesn’t even look like the same designer but why is it so cheap?! ebay.us/m/EaHEsM

It was probably part of what she was involved in before she began to be able to introduce her own ideas. The film The Colour Room tells her story.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 29/04/2026 21:18

Everyday luxury = diamond earrings, hermes scarves, decent perfume, limited edition prints

Stuff to save up for = massive diamond solitaire that you can see refracting light from across the room. A Melissa Scott-Miller painting. I'd just spend all day just looking at both of them.

I love both my Prada sunglasses and my Prada messenger bag, the latter is battered and old but so practical, I've used it every day for years and it’s cross body so my hands are free and a perfect size

Prada bag

I also have several cashmere scarves from Cove in different colours

This mirror from Chanel isn’t expensive but I use it several times a day and it’s gorgeous enough to use in public

I have bought designer in the past a few bits here and there. Sometimes the design is lovely but it’s not that practical. Half the stuff I had when younger doesn’t fit me now. Waaahhh

I have other things for practical purposes.
A thing of beauty is a joy forever.....and the workmanship is astounding.

WhoWhereWhatWhy · 29/04/2026 21:31

Lots of things!

Margot Selby towels (to go with my Matalan bath mat!)

thermal socks as I hate having cold feet

Nice notebook with key requirements: an index, two bookmarks, an elastic for my pen and a pretty colour

Wirarpa pants because they are the only pants I’ve ever worn that don’t ride up my bum

True Grace fig candles. I buy the refills and pop them in the glass each time, they’re half the price of the jar candles and more environmentally friendly

I also enjoy spending more on hand soap for the loo because it makes a big difference and is not expensive per use. I like
White Company lime and bay

rollerball pens in a wide selection of colours

original artwork

huge bed

porcelain mugs

good quality eyeshadow palette and decent brushes

fresh flowers every week, this week I have irises

my allbirds trainers, so comfortable!

cartier watch - I feel amazing every time I wear it

Decacaffeinatednow · 29/04/2026 21:34

@highlandponymummy
My mother collected Clarice Cliffe. We could open a museum with all of it!

maftaz · 29/04/2026 21:39

Believe it or not, I've just realised that I actually own a Longines watch. It was given to me by my DP about 15 years ago and it is still in the box never worn. I only wear the apple watch now, and before that, a Seiko solar, well I never had to wind it! I must get the Longines valued for insurance, never thought of it.

Other than that I have nothing of value and don't want anything either. I should get off the thread so! I am enjoying all the items mentioned, and you'd never know I could be tempted by something. A significant birthday approaches!

Did you know Allbird are going to stop being a shoe company and reinvent themselves as an AI company called newbird? This sounds insane but seems to be true: ir.allbirds.com/news-releases/news-release-details/allbirds-inc-executes-50m-convertible-financing-facility?mobile=1

Tissot watches - not over the top in terms of price for the quality but I love mine. My dad and brothers all had them for some reason so I think I just associate them with that! I’m a woman like but still love them 😅

PurpleFlower1983 · 29/04/2026 23:57

DH bought me diamond stud earrings, I wear them all the time.
Gaggia Bean to cup machine
My Mulberry bags - had them for years
A few pieces of art work in the £5-600 range, bought because we love them
Very expensive White Company bed lined

minipie · Yesterday 00:43

Original artwork, we have 3 paintings by the same artist now, and a limited edition print.

Other than that… for me it’s probably very good versions of boring practical things, rather than luxury items.

For example we do have stupidly expensive but nice looking laundry hampers and laundry baskets. I slightly love those laundry baskets (Brabantia waxed fabric folding ones).

A great coffee machine (Sage Barista Express Impress).

A sofa covered in bespoke fabric and a bespoke size ottoman - pricey but fabulous.

A lovely wool Persian/Afghan rug - cost a lot but would have been double from a UK store, we risked buying it direct via Etsy instead.

A lot of cashmere jumpers. I live in them from Oct to March so do get value from them!

Floris bespoke fragrance session (wonderful and not outrageous at £750 given the experience… I love my fragrance). Vintage Georg Jensen jewellery.

Natural yellow IF diamond engagement ring upgrade for my 35th wedding anniversary.
Diamond earrings which DH bought me as a final gift just before he died from cancer. I'm afraid of losing them, but I'm going to wear them today because of this thread.
My three cats who cost a fortune in food and vet fees but bring me much joy.
Vintage Lalique vases and decanters. I love glass.
Original painting I bought when I retired. I should have bought the small Jack Vettriano, but it was very expensive.
Hand blown set of red and white wine, and water glasses.

Never heard of them before, but I'm going to try the Astier de Villatte incense now. YOLO.

I gave my DD my diamond Longines watch. I only wear my rose gold Apple watch now, even with evening wear.

I have a big birthday coming up later this year and have started looking for some kind of vintage ring that "touches " me. So far only tried one on.
I would love a really powerfully scented rose too, nothing like the scent of it on a balmy summer day.
I wonder if you can get diamond studs that sort of screw on to the back of your eyes?

I would love them but I am clumsy and short sighted so would worry about losing them.

I use these at the end of the posts, after putting on the earring backs.

I hope the huge diamond earrings work. Good luck.

Thank you! Still looking for the buggers - however, the threat of increased sparkle seems to be currently working 🤣, 6 years today since initial diagnosis, 2 years since last operation 🤞

CinnamonJellyBeans · Yesterday 07:35

This is such a lovely thread! Yes! to the fountain pens, nice soap, candles (I like woodwick for value and throw) and flowers.

PippaToryFripp · Yesterday 08:01

Chanel 2.55, diamond stud earrings, sauna bag.

Didimum · Yesterday 08:29

The favourite luxury items I have that have brought me joy for many years are: an YSL card wallet (£260), mulberry lily handbag (£1k) and a painting from one of my favourite artists (£5k).

Good; even the thought of them is working. Cross fingers, yes.
Look at old mine cut....hand cut, so powerful.
I'm wearing a mine cut diamond ring as we speak.......they're magical.

Irememberwhenitwasallfieldsroundhere · Yesterday 08:52

I thought of 2 others:

A gorgeous expensive mattress, £3k and worth every penny (Hypnos Lansdowne Cashmere)

Hand soap in my bathroom and downstairs loo, is 100 Acres, £29 a bottle but it takes me back to the hotel I love which has it in the bathrooms.

ExquisiteSocialSkills · Yesterday 08:55

Valentino sunglasses from TKMaxx. I love them.
