Luxury and timeless items that bring you joy

What luxury or good quality items have you received or bought for yourself that you think stand the test of time and bring you joy?

Big birthday coming up so I plan to drop heavy hints to DH and also treat myself over the course of the year.

These can be wearable items or home goods and gadgets. They can be expensive (up to low thousands) or much less.

They can be items that finally made you feel like a grown up but that bring you a rush of wonder when you use them.

I’m after quality or beauty or practicality rather than anything super fashionable.

Sadly budget won’t stretch to car or holiday home! And I don’t have the capacity for more pets. I’m good at coming up with experiences gifts so it’s just cold, hard, material goods I’m after!

@AnotherNewNotebook I almost asked if it was Comete but went for 1932! I covered myself in Comete immediately prior to going to 29 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré which is where Chanel was living in 1932 and from where she launched the collection. I remember being stood there - leaning up against the stonework of Joseph Duclos across the road and blinking into the sunshine at Gabrielle's balcony - and still didn't go back to Rue Cambon and buy a bottle, no idea why now I come to think of it, especially as for me the association would also be with the Second World War Comete escape line which operated between Belgium and France (I'm a wartime historian.) I shall have to make a purchase!

@Traveltart The Les Eaux range is lovely, Deauville is from that range, along with Edimbourg which @Verv wears (she being the person who bought me Deauville!)

@Verv Fancy seeing you here 😀

Still loving this thread and all the gorgeousness

I love my Chanel, mostly No5 and Gardenia. When I was in London last week I tried Cristalle as I have never tried it (sadly not one for me)
As I love Gardenia I asked the assistant about some of the other Exclusifs and I tried Jersey , Boy & Comete - he latter I loved

What a picture you have painted - I can almost visualise it and am now thinking I need to pay homage myself with a visit. You have just made my love of Comete even deeper, thank you! And wartime history... how fascinating! This says to me you must purchase a bottle and consider it research rather than anything hedonistic!

This thread is beautiful.

I love Deauville and I was given a bottle as a gift last week (having wanted it for ages). It is a beautiful summer scent.

I do like Chanel Edimbourg @Verv but am a Chanel Jersey (from Les Exclusivs range) girl myself. But it is so expensive I am eking out the last few drops.

Verv · 06/05/2026 13:24

@deeahgwitch Edimbourg smells lovely but i find it evaporates really quickly. Lasts a bit longer if sprayed on clothing rather than neck I've found. On skin its gone in a couple of hours. :(

Ooh they are lovely and I bought some very high end tools for a friend’s birthday. She usually buys cheap ones and then wonders why they break in a year or two! She mentioned the other day that they are surprisingly still going strong and I felt like saying ‘yes that’s because they cost £££’ but didn’t!

I've too many crap secateurs. Just bought my first Falco and can't wait to try them out.

I've been treating myself to upgrading furniture etc. recently. I bought a rug from this artist last year which I love. https://slhw.fr/rugs
