Would it be considered Sad if I purchased one of those old woman shopping trolleys?

In Barcelona you see young people wheeling their little oldwoman shopping trolley things around all over the place, but would I get funny looks if I bought one to use here?

It would be so handy for shopping at the market

Ye jest , surely?!

lou33 · 21/10/2004 17:22

That would leave mw with but 1 dubloon left from her exh's pay off!

Davros · 21/10/2004 17:22

Bit spindly. My Rollser's much tougher looking. Also comes in Burberry-style check!

valleygirl · 21/10/2004 17:23

they are probabaly used as an "ironic" fashion statement in hoxton/shoreditch area already - i say go forit. who cares what anyone else thinks?!

agy · 21/10/2004 17:23

Oh, that looks great. Ooo I've already got his xmas pressie...

A Radio Flyer is a little red wagon (actually, doesn't have to be so little, ours is an all-terrain model). They're standard issue for American kids.
When shopping on foot we sometimes use a cycling trailer, very lightweight and hauls tonnes.
Maybe those little McClaren shopping trolleys for the old ladies could be remarketed in trendy (trendy Wellie type) colours?

snmum · 21/10/2004 17:30

a zebra you are such a hippy

jampot · 21/10/2004 17:38

bag-cum-trolley so you can meet up with Lou looking cool and then revert to trolley when she's not looking

ScummyMummy · 21/10/2004 17:40

jampot- very clever. What do you think, lou? Can MissusWoman have it?

roisin · 21/10/2004 18:06

bag-cum-trolleys are rubbish - I've got one

They are actually very hard to manoeuvre, because they don't have the rigidity of a trolley, so kind of slump forward, and therefore don't have the benefits for your back anyway. I bought one for lugging heavy books to the library and back, but have hardly used it.

Now I make the kids either choose light books, or carry them themselves

Davros · 21/10/2004 18:08

go for a sturdy "out-there" one!

iota · 21/10/2004 18:12

nooooooooooooooooooooooo

do what we do - fill teh pushchair with bags and make the kid walk

albert · 21/10/2004 18:20

Everyone in Venice uses them too and it's so impractical with all the bridges. I was actually told I wouldn't fit in without one but I just couldn't make myself buy one. They are dreadful things IMO, I go shopping with a rucksack and whizz past all the young trendies struggling over the bridges after the shopping spree!!

MissusWoman · 21/10/2004 18:21

I'd look like a mentalist if I went out with a pushchair, my kids are 13 and 11!

Has to be a big no from me i'm afraid. How about getting a small suitcase ala stewards hand luggage? Will do the same thing but you'll look like a tourist

iota · 21/10/2004 18:23

oh well just a thought - my youngest is 3 so I can get away with a pushchair for a few more months.......then what do I do?

MissusWoman · 21/10/2004 18:24

what about one of these?

OP posts:
iota · 21/10/2004 18:26

fantastic - not sure I could persuade my cat to sit in it though

DelGirl · 21/10/2004 18:28

Davros · 21/10/2004 18:29

MissusWoman · 21/10/2004 18:29
