am being calm but every so often panic strikes me - ds is fine about it, it's just me fretting about roads to cross/ money for the canteen - will it get lost/stolen, what about the lockers, arghhh ! Plus,as with the beginning of every term,I'll miss him - I love having him here in the holidays !
It also means that I have no excuses not to sit at my desk and work on the job I'm meant to finish by the end of Seot...

The concert sounded fab Roisin. Are the scruffy jeans well hidden Bellavita? DD shock horror actually looked like a girl when she went to her Xmas disco on Wednesday as she had on skinny jeans a floaty top and a little bolero top plus a swipe of lip gloss -normally she's in a football top plus baggy jeans and trainers! Now I'm hoping she'll wear the same on Xmas day.

DD finishes at 2.20 today they don't have to do the last lesson DD is a bit naffed off about that as she enjoys IT and said she'd rather miss lesson 5 PE then lesson 6 IT.

DD also came home last night full of what they'd done in science -they're doing circuits and apparently yesterday they were doing practical work that was GCSE level -"thats year 10 stuff Mum and we managed to do it". I'm wondering how many clues the teacher actually gave them!

Wishing all a very Merry Christmas and may 2009 be a very sucessful year for all especially our Yr7's

bellaBuonNatalevita · 19/12/2008 07:40

Oh yes magenta they are. Your DD sounds like she looked lovely!

Best wishes to you all for a lovely christmas and new year

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 19/12/2008 08:59

ah lovely magenta -I like the swipe of lipgloss ! bet she looked lovely...and how wonderful your concert sounded - sitting round tables sounds like a brilliant idea - very relaxing and informal.
It was ds' concert last night - being used to primary school shows I reckoned on an hour or so but this went on until after 10pm,having started at 7...but it was great. His school is a music specialist one and they have a very dynamic young head of music and other very enthusiastic teachers...the standard was amazingly good...2 vocal groups,Big Band, Jazz band, strings ensemble, senior flute group, orchestra, flute choir, concert band and a group of yr 11s doing their own thing,as well as a gamelan group made up of parents and children from various primary schools. Ds' group went on last performing 3 songs including a very good Chasing Cars and finished with Joy to the World. I'd given ds tea before we went out but dh and I had to eat at after 11 !
ds now a bit anxious that others will 'know' he does singing/is in singing group and seems to be very worried that he might get teased (his group will sing in assembly today) - I hope he doesn't get in a pickle about it as it'd be dreadful if he gave it up -am sure her won't- I explained that if anything he'll get respect for doing this, especially as it sounded so cool- not sure where he has picked up the embarrassment about singing from - there were about 5 other boys in the group but as with most choirs in mixed schools it seems to be mainly a girl thing.
Hope you all have a fantastic and lovely Christmas and really hope we can carry on this thread in the new year - it's really helped me get through this first part of yr 7...love to all xxxx

roisin · 19/12/2008 12:15

Before ds started a yr11 girl told him that all the girls fancy the boys who sing in the choirs! I'm not sure he's bothered about all that yet, but it appears to be true!

Students generally admire others who have the guts to stand up there and do something.

This morning ds1 has an Awards Assembly. He is really looking forward to it: not because he will be the first yr7 to get a Head Teacher's Award presented for 10 merit certificates, but because he gets to miss PE, which he loathes!

roisin · 19/12/2008 12:16

Happy Christmas Everybody - hope you all enjoy the break.
I think we could do with a new thread for the new year, as this one is getting a bit unwieldy.

What shall we call it?

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 19/12/2008 12:36

thanks roisin - that's a good point to make to ds, though he might not appreciate girls fancying him - yet ! at ds1
being so happy to miss PE and well done again to him for his award
Shall we call the new thread Year 7 - Spring Term ?
or something else...

magentadreamer · 19/12/2008 12:37

I was going to suggest something like that MAS.

bellaBuonNatalevita · 19/12/2008 12:47

that sounds like a good name for a new thread MAS

roisin · 19/12/2008 16:16

OMG I am so impressed with ds1's school.

End of term they have an assembly with lots of presentations and awards. There are awards for each subject one boy and one girl in each year group.
ds1 got an award for Maths and one for German.
As well as the HT merit certificate that he was expecting, he also got a special award from HT for "special achievement" or some such similar.

He's over the moon, and we are so chuffed he's in a school where achievement is recognised and rewarded. He's worked so hard this term and always tried his best, and let's face it he's never going to get trophies for sport or music!

We also had a letter in the post today from the HT thanking us for the tin of chocolates we sent in for the staff
Talk about attention to detail: I am in awe!

bellaBuonNatalevita · 19/12/2008 16:22

That is so lovely roisin, what a fab way to start the xmas period.

Well done to roisin's DS.

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 19/12/2008 17:26

roisin · 19/12/2008 17:34

Thanks all! I'm glad I can come on mumsnet and be proud of him here
Can't say anything to anyone in RL except my mum.

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/01/2009 21:53
