am being calm but every so often panic strikes me - ds is fine about it, it's just me fretting about roads to cross/ money for the canteen - will it get lost/stolen, what about the lockers, arghhh ! Plus,as with the beginning of every term,I'll miss him - I love having him here in the holidays !
It also means that I have no excuses not to sit at my desk and work on the job I'm meant to finish by the end of Seot...

Hmmm - my kids go to a jewish school so no chritsmas gifst although we have chanukah at same time. May not be quite same thing but I do think that in secondary its not the done thing. For a start they have umpteen different teaachers ....kids may get laughted at even by other kids.

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 16/12/2008 16:41

yep,was thinking that too (being laughed at, if he were to take in gift) Would a card be ok,though ?

roisin · 16/12/2008 16:46

I sent in a big tin of chocolates (celebrations) last week. Dh dropped it in to the office, with a card taped to the tin saying "To All Staff at XX School. Thank you for all your hard work. ds1 has settled in incredibly well and loves coming to school."

He also chose to send/write a card to his form tutor.

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 16/12/2008 16:46

aww,that's kind roisin !

roisin · 16/12/2008 16:55

Ds1 did his German presentation today, and performed very well.

Some of his classmates had used online translators, which produce gobbledigook. One has even managed to use an online translator to produce some words/phrases in French! Even though it is German they've been learning for the past term! ROFL.

magentadreamer · 16/12/2008 17:00

Well done Lisa's DD. I've read your other thread and you deserve to have a proud Mum moment!!! And well done MAS DS on 100% attendance.

DD did a maths test last week and now has gone up a whole level in a term -she's really proud of herself especially since Maths really wasn't her thing in Juniors and did a Science test on Monday which got the I did ok I think reply. Apparently they will be given all their current levels on Friday along with effort grades.

DD has written cards for both her form tutors I was hoping that would suffice!

magentadreamer · 16/12/2008 17:01

Oh dear I shouldn't laugh at little johnny getting caught out by using an online translator!

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 16/12/2008 17:19

well done to magenta's dd and roisin's ds1 - sounds as though everyone is doing just fine and dandy

bellaBuonNatalevita · 16/12/2008 18:35

That's good news magenta about your dd going up a whole level

lisalisa · 16/12/2008 20:59

Well done magentadreamer's dd - that really is great . Great to hear about your ds roisin too - well done to him

maybe we shoudl change this to the "proud mummy now that they're one term into this secondary school lark thread" instead

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 16/12/2008 21:37

arf !

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 17/12/2008 17:08

gah ! have just had to fork out for 2 new pairs of shoes for ds - school & ordinary - he said his feet were a bit sore and they have grown - he's now a 3E which is still quite wee for an 11 yr old

roisin · 17/12/2008 17:40

We've got big concert tonight: "Christmas at ds1's school" It's a performing arts school, and they make a lot of it. Apparently there are 150 students involved.

It seems very well-organised, and there are limited tickets, so at least it shouldn't be mega-crowded.
Ds1 & ds2 are upstairs singing carols and christmas songs and generally getting more and more hyper

I can't wait for the concert, but I'm feeling "end of term tired and weary" already; I'm not sure I've the stamina for a late-ish night!

bellaBuonNatalevita · 17/12/2008 18:02

Mmmm MAS - I think I will be going down the shoe road shortly with DS. He too has small feet!

He brought his Yr7 review home tonight for all his subjects and from all the scores they have given him he is doing well.

roisin - think about me at midnight - just getting home from work! I did a double shift yesterday and it will be the same today (work has been really really busy) and I feel 60 something instead of 40 something.

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 17/12/2008 18:06

well done bellavita's ds !
and enjoy the concert roisin - ours is tomorrow

bellaBuonNatalevita · 17/12/2008 18:11

oh yes roisin, enjoy the concert.

DS is going to church on Friday and then they have a christmas disco in the afternoon at school. He is planning on taking his scruffiest jeans - they are awful. But I have hidden them so he will have to wear his new skinny jeans - which I might add look really nice on him, but then I am biaised!

Right, got to go, work calls!

bellaBuonNatalevita · 18/12/2008 15:40

MAS are you ok? Someone was asking what your xmas name is on another thread - they said you sounded fed up?

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 18/12/2008 16:11

I'm fine bellavita, just very coughy and coldy, but not fed up - thanks for asking ! what thread was this ?

bellaBuonNatalevita · 18/12/2008 16:15

MAS - By crazyloon1 on Thu 18-Dec-08 14:49:31
Hi Compo

I am she

Thanks for noticing though smile

am feeling a bit crap atm and not good at posting without bypassing filter so keeping low profile.

Can anyone remember MaryAnnSingleton's Christmas name? Last I saw her she was a bit fed up.

The above is what she posted (I think (could be wrong) it looked a bit out of place on the thread and wondered if it had been misposted.

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 18/12/2008 16:19

how odd - I don't know a crazyloon unless it's a name change !

bellaBuonNatalevita · 18/12/2008 19:59

very strange!

roisin · 18/12/2008 20:02

The concert was absolutely bloody fantastic! The atmosphere was wonderful - audience seated round tables with mulled wine and lebkuchen served to the tables. Audience carol singing and a quiz to complete etc. ds1 was up there singing his heart out and clearly having a whale of a time.

The quality of the performances was spectacular. It is just a state school - 1050 students - and they had on stage performing:
orchestra (30)
wind band (40)
samba band (12)
boys choir (40)
mixed choir (40)
community choir (20)
gcse choir (20)
staff choir (40)

The school I work at (our catchment school, similar size) has nothing of any of this at all: no christmas concert, no band, no orchestra, one tiny weedy rubbish singing group, a handful of students having individual instrument lessons...

bellaBuonNatalevita · 18/12/2008 20:14

wow roisin, sounds fabulous (so does the mulled wine and leckuchen)

roisin · 18/12/2008 20:29

Thanks bella!
I even shed a tear, which is not like me.
I tend to be very cold and logical, not emotional.

bellaBuonNatalevita · 18/12/2008 20:51

When it comes to schooley things like plays, concerts etc, I always take a hankie

Although my mother would probably tell you I have a heart of stone
