@ALongProcess thank you so much.....you have some really good point that in actually had not thought of.

HappySnow · 22/10/2024 17:07

@Mommyingboys That's my friends DS sore :

60% of his SET English standardised score of 87.58,
60% of his SET Maths standardised score of 88.51,
90% of his Second Stage English standardised score of 89.98,
90% of his Second Stage Maths standardised score of 97.38,
giving a total score of 274.28 (a band score of 273). Please note that band scores are calculated to the nearest four marks.

The minimum was 281

@Mommyingboys You can check the appeal process and initiate the process. Please note the school generally offer seat (even if the appeal is in your favor) only if you have mentioned it in CAF. So, I would recommend putting it in CAF if you are really sure of converting the appeal in your favor.

My sons school didn’t add up to 212 either and he was invited for stage 2. I really don’t understand the results. He passed maths for Wilson’s and failed English, and visa versa for Sutton and Wallington. I would love someone to explain how the marks are allocated. I just don’t underhand how he passed Wilson’s maths with flying colours but failed maths for Sutton and WCGS. And then visa versa with the schools for English.

Thank-you for sharing. this. Can you offer any insight into this because according to this again the first stage Standardised scores do not add up to 212.
This is so confusing.

Indeed, very confusing

That's all that she sent me and same like your friend she doesn't have a clue how they calculated

I agree with you. The process of calculating the scores should be clear and shared with parents.

Thank-you veru much everyone. It means that most probably it is just the matter of not understanding the calculation technique used.
Is it worth emailing the school or will they not answer ?

Same here with my DS
His Maths was super high, a much higher than pass mark, he also passed the sports aptitude, but not English by only a couple of points

They will definitely reply.
It's always worth a try.

For those of you wandering about the discrepancy in SET stage 1 score. When I analysed data a few years ago it looked like the stage 1 results were restandardised taking into account only those that have passed stage 1. Therefore your SET 1 score will be different to your stage 2 SET 1 score. Hope that helps.

Travelmad777 · 27/10/2024 22:08

The schools all publish details of how they calculate their scores

Wilson's 1: 2: 2 (stage1 combined : stage 2 english: stage 2 maths)

Sutton 2: 2: 3: 3 (stage 1 maths:stage1 english : stage 2 maths : stage 2 english)

Wallington 2: 3 (stage 1 combined : stage 2 combined)

If you do really well in stage 2, but not so well in stage 1, you could do very well with your Wilson's score but not very well with Sutton or Wallington due to the weighting placed on the different scores.

UK2New · 28/10/2024 14:20

Thanks @Travelmad777 for the details. One clarification. Will all school uses the Stage2 SET 1 score to calculate their stage 2 score? or every school has their own way to calculate stage2 SET1 & SET2 scores?
My son did not clear Sutton, so I know his score from Stage 1 and Stage 2. Can i use it to calculate his Wallington score? If anyone is interested, I assume the formula to calculate Wallington Mark is

WCGS score = 2/5(set1 Eng + set1 Maths) + 3/5(set2 Eng + set2 Maths)

Not sure though.

@Travelmad777 could you please confirm my first question? thank you.

My DS has received an offer from Wallington County Grammar School. This is his first-choice school! We are beyond happy! I hope everyone else received their favorite offers too🤞🏼❤️

Curtainpoles · 03/03/2025 20:27

Congratulations to you and your DS ❤️

My girl didn't get in to either of the girls grammars. She has got a place at Sutton High though so we have accepted that for now and will wait to see about the waiting list, although I'm not hopeful!

Is there anyone from wandsworth getting into WCGS ? We are planning to relocate but around Jan 2026. Is the daily commute doable ?

Yes, we do.

WCGS was in the top 30 state secondary schools in the country for results this year. ( top 10 in London). It is a rugby school and does amazingly in cricket. It was listed as one of the top 25 schools for cricket in 2024. They also do really well at table tennis. They have lots of other opportunities for the arts ( drama production, music competition, photography and art competition. Just to name a few. )There is a great selection of subjects on offer. They really try to support our children to be well rounded and the pastoral care is amazing. It has a really family feel about it. My son is thriving there.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
