@RedDogBlueDog There are 96 places available at Emanuel. Given that it works out 50:50 boys:girls and 50:50 state:private, you can think about it as
24 places for DDs from state
24 places for DDs from private
24 places for DSs from state
24 places for DSs from private
Within those, siblings and scholars have preference, making numbers smaller if you are not in one of those categories. Of course, as per previous messages, places is not the same as offers, but the numbers are quite sobering.

Yeesh. Emanuel is my son’s favourite. I’ve started some fairly robust expectation management but the odds are even worse than I realised.

invigilator · 05/02/2023 22:13

I wouldn’t get to caught up in Emanuel ‘categories’. It doesn’t work like that. Historically the school has approx 50/50 state/ private and 50/50 boys girls. They will continue to offer on a combination of exams/ interview/ reports etc and I would be very surprised if offers are manipulated into categories. Some years it may not be 50/50 split but overall the school generally works out like that.
Similarly at LU it’s pretty much 50/50 co- Ed across the school but not necessarily exactly in each year.
That could both use WL if they end up having a major imbalance but it will never be exact as none of them know who will accept offers. With Emanuel, lots of siblings don’t get in and remember if they get an offer they may not accept it.

I’ve just read the Head of Epsom has been found dead alongside her husband and daughter…..oh dear, too sad.

redrobin75 · 05/02/2023 22:17

So shocking and incredibly sad about the Head of Epsom and her family.
It will be so incredibly hard for their loved ones and the school community... my thoughts are very much with them.

Hi! Well done! Was it a ‘fat’ envelope or thin? Was it just a letter etc? Interested to know please!!

One A4 sized fat ish envelope addressed to me and dh and one A5 size thin envelope addressed to ds. Good luck 🤞🏻ds has 6 friends who also applied but he’s the only one who’s heard so far but he’s also the only one with a sibling at Halliford so maybe they send them first.

My goodness, how awful about the Epsom HM. I was there last Monday for the music evening that music scholarship applicants were invited to and she was so lovely. Made a concerted effort to speak to my DD before and after the concert.

secondaryquandries · 05/02/2023 22:53

Awful news, how sad.

Dallasdays · 05/02/2023 22:58

Absolutely shocking. Puts things into perspective.

cerealchange · 05/02/2023 23:24

I am so shocked. I met her and she was so lovely- I thought the school was going to fly with her at the helm. The whole community must be reeling.

VickiMent · 05/02/2023 23:36

Also in shock here. Met her only a few weeks ago and she was lovely.

It is frightening to see it as headline news.

Yes think 5% for academic scholarships is quite normal now.

It varies depending on how well your child has performed academically. I say this with the experience of being offered a 10% academic scholarship for one twin, and 5% for the other! (From SCHS.)

Lolakath19 · 06/02/2023 09:01

Last week of wait !! (Hopefully)

@SamPoodle123 I'm wondering the same. Anyone from last year know?

My experience was that the emails came in all day long - the first one was at 5.45 am (FH RP) (!!) and the last one was quite late in the afternoon (Latymer). I spent the entire day on the computer!

SamPoodle123 · 06/02/2023 09:05

What sad news regarding the head of Epsom college.

I wonder if the emails were set to a timer to be sent out? The ones sent at 5:45am. I just sent Putney an email to ask if they finalised the date for emails to be sent out. As they said early mid feb and I am hoping it is before the 10th of Feb!

SamPoodle123 · 06/02/2023 09:08

Oh dang, I got a fast response from Putney saying "we aim to send the results to parents by the end of this week" I was hoping they would send it today! I guess it is Friday like all the rest!

Lolakath19 · 06/02/2023 09:10

@SamPoodle123 let’s hope by the end of the week will mean Wednesday or Thursday

Yes, I very much hope so! Would be great to get at least one result before Friday!

Lolakath19 · 06/02/2023 09:14

Although if it is a no it is even more stress for Friday lol

Peppermintblue · 06/02/2023 09:15

Has anyone heard from Reeds yet? Our last email from them says letters will be posted Monday 6th Feb. I hope they are emailing too - post is very erratic where we are.

secondaryquandries · 06/02/2023 09:22

@Peppermintblue we had the email and a letter from Reeds at the end of last week. I would give them a call. Unless maybe you are 13+ or overseas and on a different timetable?
